So much of the gameplay elements straight up looked like they were watching Breath of the Wild gameplay on the other screen while developing this game, just so obvious but some people don't want to admit to it, same shit with people that play Soulslike games that are literally carbon copies of Dark Souls but pretend its a completely different game.

This game is great. The combat mechanics feel great and intuitive and it gets progressively harder and more fun as you go and learn how to use all of your abilities. The dialog between Zeus and Prometheus is fantastic. Funny and entertaining, as they narrate your adventure. I’m about 3/4 of the way through and it’s been difficult to tear me away from the PS5 these last few days.

It depends. From what I heard, the combat is fairly different, feeling much more like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey with a pinch of something like Devil May Cry than BOTW. Exploration and puzzles though? Yeah, that’s pretty much BOTW.

It's intellectually dishonest to claim that this game didn't copy BOTW in a massive way. They may have introduced some new elements, but I think it's fair to say that this is 80% a BOTW clone. I might buy it, because I liked BOTW so much.

Right, they tell you it's no breath of the wild at every opportunity but I love to double jump into a glide, the voice acting and how many different ways there are to get stronger. They critique the sight ability like it's not an amazing upgrade from the five pins that you get in breath of the wild. You can use it everywhere, and you still have to actually find whatever spot in the distance to "find" it for later. That was something I did in botw constantly: laying markers, this game does it FOR you and that's a bad thing? Botw had fast travel EVERYWHERE, in this there are only a handful of spots, I think that was the reasoning for how easy the markers are to place. Also easy markers are a GOOD thing 🤣

I just started playing this on PS5 this weekend and I've already put about 12 hours into it. It's a lot of fun. Granted, it does borrow a lot from BotW but who cares? It's a very fun game with a colorful world, clever jokes (especially if you're familiar with Greek mythology), fun abilities, rewarding exploration, good story. I'd highly recommend this and I'm usually very harsh on open world games. This game makes moving around the world fun, you get mounts, wings to glide, you can climb anything, swim anywhere, etc. It's just a good time. The combat is on the easy side if you can master the perfect dodge, but you can always make it more difficult on yourself by not upgrading armor and weapons.

So i've just finished this game yesterday and am planning on a new game + run of it as well this month. There aren't many games that I'll want to do that with. This review really doesn't do it justice and, if I understand the reviewer right, they kind of agree with me. So lets talk about the places where the game definitely outshines BOTW. THE WORLD BOSSES ARE FRIGGIN AWESOME. One of the main reasons this game just clicked with me was after encountering one of the world bosses on a certain spot after a couple of hours. I was definitely not prepared for that fight. Now, I could have gone the easy route, gotten some better gear, more health potions a bigger health/stamina bar. But I decided to Power through and boy was I better of for it. The battle was tense, I died a couple of times and I definitely had to learn the moveset of the boss before I could come anywhere near beating it. After defeating it the sense of accomplishment was amazing and akin to when you defeat a boss in a soulslike. The story is waaaaaaaay better than Breath of the Wild And this hurts a little to say it, but you didn't have to play BOTW for the story. When you finish Hephaistos' questline, you'll know what I mean. Aand then you'll get to know Hephaistos and get to know what I mean even more. We've al seen Zeus talking to Prometheus on the mountain and that narration while playing makes it a ton more fun than when it wouldn't have been there. You really feel like you're playing through a story instead of plowing through a desolate world. The combat Like butter. Enough said. And I could go on and on with comparisons. But the main thing is. THEY ARE DIFFERENT GAMES. Yes they both have an open world which you can explore and yes you have to complete puzzles to get better. But ffs NintendoLife, you know which games do that as well? Borderlands, The Witcher games, The Elder Scrolls games, The Fallout series, Assassins Creed; and that's just from the top of my head. I definitely feel like a ranting Keyboardwarrior now, so I'll stop. But lets agree that this review could have been a little more in depth and could've mentioned BOTW a ton less. We all love BOTW, I definitely know you guys do. But this wasn't your best day on the job now was it?

Pre ordered the steel book version of the game for switch. Maybe if I really like the game I'll buy it on another platform as well. The combined implementation of game mechanics speaks inspiration from BotW, but some guys need to freaking chill and stop thinking like BotW invented these mechanics when they existed before. Climbing anything - AC Origins 2017 Odyssey 2018 Stamina - Far Cry Primal 2016 (while FC Primal does not have that same stamina bar, it did have stamina that drains with doing sprinting, heavy attacks, swimming although only regenerated with food and herbs), FC 2 already had a guy who gets tired after sprinting back in 2008 Glider - AC Brotherhood Parachute 2010, Far Cry Wingsuit 2012 Wind Current Going Up - AC II 2009 Herakles Bracer - Force Unleashed force telekinesis Dodge and parry, slow time - AC Odyssey 2018 (not sure about games before BotW with this mechanic, but with BotW and AC Odyssey just a year away from release they might have developed it separately) Shield for parry - AC Origins 2017 Slow time Arrow shooting while going down - AC Origins 2017 Puzzles, pushing things around, physics - Prince of Persia, AC games (just please it's not like BotW invented puzzle games) Place objects over something - Portals Vaults - AC II, Brotherhood, Revelations, Origins, Odyssey Tombs Viewpoints - AC, Far Cry towers (scream Ubisoft) Taming animal and ride it - Far Cry Primal Hunting and finding crafting materials - Far Cry. AC (most intense with this is FC Primal) Sneak attacks - literally core AC Far Sight - Senu in AC Origins 2017, Camera in Far Cry 3, 4 And the combat - this just screams AC Odyssey, except for the attacks on air The weapons you have don't break. Ubi learned from FC 2 to not make all weapons breakable. Though FC Primal and FC 5 did have breakable melee weapons. You can swim underwater here. So in the end, just wanna say not all these mechanics are new, and it's not even Ubisoft who made most of what I listed here. Give props to BotW for bringing them together, just don't act like they pioneered them cause that's what most you guys sound like.
@Tm_Slink
@Tm_Slink 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah.. Sorry to be "That guy" *not really* but AC Origins isn't really the inspiration for climbing anything in BotW as BotW was out before Origins. It's would be more of a refined AC in general climbing mechanic instead.

...but the Zelda IP pioneered the action/adventure genre and many of the different systems and mechanics that are too many to detail that have been heavily "borrowed" by other games and became a staple in gaming in general since then. Overworld/World Map Item Inventory/Item Collecting Puzzles Block Pushing/Placing objects Exploration Etc... Etc... Hence the term, "Zelda Style" was coined. Can we say then that games that used such mechanics copied Zelda? lol

Okay look, we have played BOTW. Clearly people want more of something similar. Nobody was expecting this to be better. The questions people wanted to know where; Is this a good game to scratch the same itch afterwards? Is it a good game on its own, without the comparisons? What are the performance/visual compromises with each version? Would BOTW fans enjoy this? Would people who disliked BOTW enjoy this? How about explaining the features and gameplay without just saying its bad BOTW? This review has basically just repeating that it isn't as good as BOTW over and over. I feel like I know what I already assumed beforehand, and my questions are still left unanswered.

While Breath of The Wild had a lot of large empty areas you traverse through, Immortals Fenyx Rising felt like their was always enemies around every corner to fight or treasure to find. That seems fair. Im about 10 hrs in and i love the game. It does have its flaws though. Framerate gets a little janky, the camera can be a pain (helps to take it off auto-follow). The story so far is a lot better then i was expecting it. Less cheese and some actual jokes that hit the mark. Im enjoying the game as a 9/10 bc i miss the old N64-PS2 platformer days. Also i really like the climb/glide thing botw started. I actually prefer the gliding in this game. Love how fenyx adjust her feet before landing. Saved me from deep water a few times lol.

Anime games have a similar aesthetic, but no one says they are clones of each other. One thing I felt was missing in BotW is voice. And you always had to worry about weapons and shields breaking... I think comparisons can be made of many games with their mechanics, because they use the same engines. So, it isn't so much the similarities that are important, but the differences.
@nickolasecker9817
@nickolasecker9817 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t believe anyone was expecting this to oust BOTW. Ubisoft likely understood that there was plenty of demand for similar titles and ceased the opportunity. Just because a game borrows mechanics and ideas does not necessarily mean that it’s vastly inferior to its source of inspiration. Take for example, Banjo- Kazooie, a title clearly inspired by Super Mario 64. Was it better than Super Mario 64? Well, that was a point of contention, yet critics did not pan it for being “too similar” because It was still a fantastic game on its own, and offered better visuals, music and story. From what I gather, Fenyx Rising is not as good as BOTW, but I don’t believe anyone was anticipating a BOTW killer, rather an enjoyable experience that offers similar mechanics and in some instances improves upon what was established.

I just bought this game.... It was on sale for 75% off.... Got the gold edition and I absolutely love it! I'm a huge zelda fan... And I find it offensive how much this reviewer compares it to botw! I was getting annoyed just hearing him say breath of the wild. This game does have a few similarities but it was done very well so far. The world is fun to explore, the combat is actually a lot better imo, I haven't even broken my sword yet! Haha I hated that in botw. The story is really fun and very funny too! I honestly think this review was very biased, they're their own games, love them both! I think this should be an mmo.... So much lore and would be fun to level up and all.... Like wow or ffxiv. 😁😁

The person who wrote this review clearly doesn't like puzzle games or simple yet fun games. We get it puzzles can get annoying and frustrating but its not meant to be brain dead easy, they are very much achievable with simply a little looking around and using your head. Alot of them are similar with a few exemptions of new exciting puzzles to twist things up a bit so it doesnt feel boring or a task to do. Personally i love how the game works, from the exploration, to the finding points of interests with far sight, the combat system, the many armour sets and customizations for them as well as there simple explanations of what they do without giving mathematics and in depth stats of every armour and weapon peice out there. Its a good game that isnt hard to pick up. After a hour or 2 of fiddling with the controls getting mussel memory and learning what they do its a blast! Also comparing every open world game now days to breath of the wild is getting old. Yes its similar in many aspects, but thats a good thing. Breath of the wild changed the genre and birthed many great games from it taking aspects of the game that work and are heaps of fun! You dont hear everyone saying oh this games just skyrim because you can run around the whole map and do what you want and customize yourself bla bla bla. Seriously it needs to stop, reviewers are just being lazy jumping on the breath of the wild bandwagon trying to tear down great games, how about instead of negatively comparing games to eachother just say oh if you like this game and this game you're in luck because they've mashed the 2 together and its a blast! I saw a comment that perfectly summed up what breath of the wild comments are like, its as if your mother were to always compare you to your siblings whenever she spoke to you. Immortals fenyx rising is its own game and it deserves to be treated and reviewed fairly and not by people who hate the genre or anything that requires half their brain to figure out. Thank you

I am really interested how would all of these reviews look if Botw never existed. I think the main problem with this game is that everyone expect Botw gameplay but also how many of game mechanics has Botw borrowed from Assassins Creed (climbing anywhere, towers for reveling the map, jumping with glider aka Da Vinci parachute)

In my case they'd look the same, cause the issue i have with the game is not that it's bad or rips off BOTW, i think that if people like BOTW and they say something "rips it off" as a criticism then they're full of sh*t. I'm always up for more BOTW or more games like it. Issues i have with this game, are the typical Ubisoft crap, a 5GB patch on top of the cartridge content, the fact that regardless of that enormous patch the game's still crashed 15 times for me and i'm only halfway, the slowdown that occurs from time to time and is annoying af, the runescape 3 looking graphics and embarrassingly blurry textures on the mountains and the horrible looking blades of grass. Then yes the story is cheesy but somewhat funny, the combat is simplistic but fun, i'd enjoy it more if not for Ubisoft tbh, they ruin everything they touch, they should've at least matched BOTW's graphics and smoothness, BOTW is already old af and somehow runs better and looks better than this game on the Switch, that should not be possible.

THUMBDOWN REVIEW - the only reason is that this review felt more as a structured argument as to why the Shopper should buy BotW over the stand alone review of the game. This is best felt in despite the negative "feels" of the review, it was still given a 7. The game itself I think is meant to be a less serious option, more humrous injection of Open World exploration with Greek Mythos, but I dont think anyone was meant to think it would be superior to BotW. Again, Im only downvoting the substance of the review itself; and not the game / reviewer / site / etc. Still plan to check it out 😃

I am feeling the same weak argument of "Its a imitation!" that games like Dead Space and Shadows of the Damned got. Yes both of those games were inspired by Resident Evil 4 but were equally entertaining (in some cases better) over the Capcom inspiration. Immortals: Fenyx Rising is my most anticipated game of 2020 (after No More Heroes III being delayed) and the "big releases" not interesting me (Animal Crossing and The Last of Us 2). I also want to reward Ubisoft for trying to do something new outside of another Assassin's Creed, Tom Clancy, Just Dance or Far Cry game.
