Tfh cells and nearby Th1 cells produce cytokines. These cytokines are received by nearby B lymphocytes. This provides instruction on the type of antibodies that are made by directing the cuts made by enzymes like AID. The first work on how cytokines produced by nearby T cells was published in 1988, but work on this topic has documented this process many times over. (For example www.jimmunol.org/content/153/11/4948.long) While I am sure there are other cells in the microenvironment that contribute to the proinflammatory cytokine milieu, please forgive this T cell immunologist if I tend to make my favorite cell the star of the show :).

@@maureenrichardsimmunologym9632 Your point is that 60% of case of ITP are antibody mediated , while 40% are cell mediated ! When you started discussing the cell mediated responses you considered IgG production a part of that response ! I do NOT argue that TH2 cells play an integral role in humoral immunity ! Still I don't believe the current classification of TH1 & TH2 is a fully clear cut one ! Thank you & forgive my meticulous obsession with fine details , your lecture stressed on a topic that many workers in the medical field neglect which is the (Immunopathogenesis of ITP) !

Hi @@WhyNot-si4pj . You are correct. In re-listening I see what you are pointing out. No, the classification between Th1 and Th2 is not clear at all, and gets more plastic by the day. However, I recognize that most of my lectures are for early immunology students - who are still learning the basics of immunology, where clear cut delineations are helpful. The truth is far more gray where it is actually a spectrum of responses. And you are correct that I should be more careful of how I discuss the distinction between humoral and cellular immunity with that in mind. Thanks for the vigorous discussion!
