First off id like to say i love your videos, your enthusiasm is infectious, I talk to myself much like you talk to camera when im busy fettling on some project or other lol. When it comes to using 2 psus i honestly cant see the point but you do you fella. Thanks for the entertainment.

Regarding modern silver power supplies: I remembered seeing silver units from Seasonic at retailers here in Germany and I just checked. You can get the Seasonic SSP-600JT (which is a bulk order unit) from retailers which is 600W 80+ Gold rated. That would be the proper modern safe choice for a system like you are building. However I love watching you build this crazy contraption of a PC, so keep up the great work and I am looking forward to part 3.

Thank you so much! Just had a look at the PSU you mention. Something like that would be absolutely ideal. If this goes pop in the next episode, it will be something like that I'm after.

Absolutely brilliant video Tom. Loved the mod, yes wago or screwfix's version of wago might have been easier to use but what you done is old school and that's what this is all about. Love the song you choose to use to :)

Huge thanks, Tony! That's true actually, I didn't even realise as I was doing it, but looking at the vid now and seeing those blocks in the back of the PSU, it's definitely got that old school 'dodgy sparky' vibe going on haha!! Glad you enjoyed it.

My suggestion for a spring loaded storage drawer to fill in one of the 5.25" bays still stands...mainly because it's the easiest to paint beige. Many thanks for the highly entertaining build so far.

This has been a fun series so far. Have to admit though I am in the make a new modern PSU look like the old style camp though, as you might be able down the line to replace them if something goes wrong, but my motto has always been Never put off till later what you can do today. 🤣
@ItsMyNaturalColour3 ай бұрын
Nooo not that camp!! haha absolutely, I get that totally. Whenever it does die, I'll give it a good send off and find a nice replacement.

Very exciting, the Beige box is coming together! The power supply solution seems to work well, I wasn’t expecting the second one to fit as well as it does! Sure it’s not the most ideal setup, but it definitely makes it a more unique build! It’s unfortunate to see the crack on the front panel, hopefully it won’t get worse once it’s fixed up. Considering you got the case brand new though, it would be worth seeing if you can get a spare cover as a backup. Still, it’s a minor thing and at least it isn’t super noticeable. Great video!
@ItsMyNaturalColour3 ай бұрын
Thank you! Same here, it was all luck with making that fit. I'm expecting some sort of big issue in Ep3 because this has gone so smoothly. Yes great point on the front panel, something another comment pointed out too. I didn't think to contact Evercase, so I'm going to get on the case (lol) and see what they say.
@TheOriginalCollectorA13033 ай бұрын
Let’s hope nothing goes wrong, although I know how it is. At least so far it’s been going well! The front panel is still good, definitely worth repairing it. But it would be nice to get a spare if Evercase has some extras.
@ashleycox4323 ай бұрын
Might be worth reacing out ot the case manufacturer to see if they can supply just the front panel to fix the crack, while the cases are still available. It would be gutting if it failed 10 years down the line when you can't get these cases any more. When I used to deal with those USB connectors with all the pins, I'd figure out the order, take some superglue and carefully glue the pin housings together to form a single block header connector. The only thing this build is missing is one of those old 40GB Western Digital or Seagate drives with their characteristic dodgy bearing noise.
@ItsMyNaturalColour3 ай бұрын
That's an excellent idea, I hadn't thought of that! I'll fire them an email and see what they say. Cheers, Ashley. Great tip on the USB ports... and yes absolutely, that will be the only noise missing. Fingers crossed the HDDs in there will give at least some mechanical whirs and clicks on boot up.

i've had a idea for how to get the grey psu aesthetic, while using a modern psu, specifically, using the casing of a old atx psu, possibly a dell oem one, and removing all but the back and top/bottom of it, and using a short c13 extension going to a lil SFX/SFXL psu with a bracket attaching the SFX/SFXL psu to the remains of the grey casing, plus if the psu chosen has a 80mm fan on the back it would provide a mount for an additional exhaust, or alternately, just getting a SFX psu and a mounting bracket, as grey SFX psu's are not super hard to get with sufficient capacity to handle modern components
@ItsMyNaturalColour3 ай бұрын
These are great ideas too, another two things I didn't think of. It's surprising how many options there are to consider if / when this setup dies!

PowerColor recommend Minimum System Power 550W for the RX 580
@Mirra2003-f9s3 ай бұрын
I think you can find silver Delta power supplies,FSP or Chieftec power supplies that ar 550-600W on the second hand market....or you could just get a modern psu,take the guts out,paint it with a cheap silver spray paint and put it back together
@ItsMyNaturalColour3 ай бұрын
Absolutely.

You've blocked the front fan intake, and the front psu will suck in warm case air and blow it over the gpu fans.

@ItsMyNaturalColour3 ай бұрын
Thank you! I feel the same. There's not much more jank to come in Episode 3, so hopefully the build will stay nice and balanced... unless we run into an emergency and need to employ last minute improvised jank of course 😆

Why don‘t you use a slim line NOCTUA instead this thick standard Thing ???
@ItsMyNaturalColour3 ай бұрын
Except for the core components, I'm aiming for era appropriate accessories... so the case fans themselves are of the same vintage as the case. This will also add to the authentic 'noise' of the PC as a whole.

Just because a PSU is black and "Brand New" doesn't mean it can't fail catastrophically. I had a "CoolerMaster" branded PSU begin making fizzing and spluttering noises before failing in less than 12 hours of use. (No offence to "CoolerMaster" but the OEM quality control obviously failed somewhere). Maybe Tom should do a "Time Lapse" video of himself standing next to the beige PC armed with a fire extinguisher for 24 hours to prove that his "dual PSU" is as safe as most PSUs???
