I’m so grateful that Spencer met someone as loving and caring as you Imogen. I can only hope I meet someone like you that will take me for who I am and will be able to bear with me as it’s not easy. Hi Spencer, my son who is 5, a week before the Covid 19 lockdown the audiologists confirmed he has hearing loss in both ears and that he would need hearing aids fitted urgently. Unfortunately no further appointments could be given as pandemic got worse. I had to stop in the middle video to say massive thank you for sharing your story. Your story resonated with me and gave gave glimpse of the future. I admire your courage to share light on this very personal story. Imogen you’re amazing. Thank you both. Stay safe. Much love 🥰

I was recently diagnosed with hearing loss before Christmas. I’m still waiting for a test to see exactly what is the reason. I knew i was having difficulty hearing the last few months but it came as a shock to know I needed hearing aids at the age of 29. At the time I felt so embarrassed and devastated. But I feel so proud of myself that I’ve stuck to wearing the hearing aids as much as possible. I honestly cried when I was able to watch a film on the telly without subtitles. Honestly Spencer should be so proud of himself! And also for raising awareness of hearing loss. Love all your videos Imogen but this one was extra special. Sending lots of love both xxx

hey imogen & Spencer, this video had me in tears you both are so humble and pure it's such a breathe of fresh air I was born with ASD ( autistic spectrum disorder) along with other conditions which made school and social situations extremely hard for me and my family I wasnt sure where I belonged in life as a teenager i never understood what my condition was until my friends and family was able to do and go places I was never able to do was a very dark time for me because I look "normal" (is normal even a thing ?) people never understood and trying to explain to close people what it was and how it affected me was almost impossible but..... I am now 27 have been with my partner 10 years and I have the most amazing little girl ever who is 7 I'm a mum!!! a mum! something I never thought I would be I have down days and I have good days but I'm proud of where I am now! thank you for taking the time to make this video this is the first time I have publicly posted about my condition and that is down to you two so thank you so much sending all my love and positive energy ❤🥰❤🥰

Spencer is amazing, disability doesn’t have to be a negative category. Be proud of who you are. I have a disability my self called Goldenhar Syndrome, which is an abnormal development of ears, eyes, mouth, nose etc, in my case it’s my ear and I was born with an abnormal amount of tissue that were my ears that hadn’t developed properly so now I have no ears which obviously has impacted my hearing aids massively, I have a baha 5 that is attached to a metal screw in my head, I can’t hear anything without my hearing aids, so I can lip read too. My condition is very rare (not genetic) happens within 3500-350 000 babies. I have been bullied all my life and I have now only just started to accept who I am. This video was so interesting and amazing in every single way. I used to have an assistant with me in all my lessons and use to hate it! It made me feel so different to all my peers in my lessons. My condition affected my bone structure and I really struggled through school, throughout college and now, I am finally coming to terms with it. Spencer is so unique and he should be proud of it🤍

My daughter had hearing aids for about 4 years age 6 years onwards she didn’t get bullied for that. But she has growth hormone deficiency and she is smaller than her peers and she’s been bullied for that 😟 kids are just as mean if not more than back in our time. Because now they have social media and they bring school home with them. 😣 I have a hidden disability as an adult (I’m also hard of hearing meant to be wear hearing aids but i don’t, my loss was through an ear infection when I was a teenager) I have Ankylosis Spondylitis which is a condition that affects your lower back. I look “normal” but Im in so much pain every single day despite being on heavy (opiate) painkillers and anti inflammatories. Be kind to everyone.. we are all fighting our own battles. 💙

I am dyslexic and I was eventually tested at the age of 25 (I am not 27). Both my primary school and secondary school refused to test me for them, they told my parents that I was dumb, so I turned into the class clown because I really struggled and didn’t get the full help I should of been given. I came out with E’s and F’s in my GCSE’s! I wanted so badly to be nurse, but my teacher put me down and said that I didn’t have the brain to become one. But 11 years later I am actually at university and I am a second year STUDENT NURSE! And thanks to the university I have been tested for dyslexia and I have all correct help I need. And I absolutely love what I do! You are both amazing ❤️

This video is so inspirational, I've been hard of hearing since I was three and 50% deaf in my right ear. I wore hearing aids from the age of 3 till I was 13. Unfortunately one lesson my hearing aid whistled and the head of subject was watching m regular teacher and didn't know about my hearing aids, so she got up interrupted the class and said whoever phone was whistling needed to be switched off or they would get detention. I said that it was me but not my phone but was too embarrassed to admit it was my hearing aids she then proceeded to give me detention to which my regular teacher said no Darcy wears hearing aids and it was them, I never felt so embarrassed and haven't worn them since. This has inspired me to try and wear them more again as I am nearing my 18th birthday and know that I will regret not wearing them for years. So thank you so so much for sharing this!! Ps I'm so good at lipreading as well. Love you both xxx

thank you for talking about this! I was born moderately deaf and became profoundly deaf at 12 (now 16) and am aided in both ears. It has always been hard for me to accept myself as I cant do most of what my friends do... but I try!!! I have never met another deaf person before so hi! This makes me feel so much less alone and i think we need to break the stigma around what a disability is - just because its not immediately visible, it doesnt make it less valid. People dont understand what its like to be deaf so thank you for opening up. We are all just trying to hold each other up :)

I have a similar hearing loss to Spencer and loved watching this video! As i’ve grown up, I’ve become so proud to be deaf 💖 Wanted to say, I get my hearing aids for free through the NHS. I’m not sure whether that’s because I have been with the hospital since I was a child. But it’s worth looking into! Also Phonak is a company that sell lots of accessories for hearing aids, including microphones that do hone in on one persons voice and go straight to your hearing aid. I used one through school and uni and now use it in meetings at work! Love you both! 💖

I loved this video so so much. I have recently gotten into a new relationship, after 3 months of getting to know each other my boyfriend told me he was deaf in one ear and has a hearing aid. I felt awful that he spent 3 months not able to hear me, now I remember the time’s of him asking me to repeat what I said or just laughing at the wrong moment to cover up that he couldn’t hear. He was ashamed to tell me incase I was put off. This done exactly the opposite, just like what Imogen said I love everything about him so why would I change this... it’s only now I notice how bad his hearing is, at restaurants when the musics too loud, going to bed and his hearing aid is out. I absolutely loved this video! Thankyou so much for sharing this, I think you guys are spreading an amazing message ✨✨

This has helped me a lot, my niece is 7 and just got a hearing aid and she was terrified about people bullying her and making fun of her. Spencer’s story helped me as I can show her she’s not the only one and can learn the right thing to say to her to make her not worried about having them. Thank you for sharing this both of you. You guys are amazing xx

What a lovely video. You two are so special together ❤. The way you look at each other & are proud of each other. My little sister has a disability. With every single or small thing she does, I always tell her how proud I am of her. Almost every day she hears me say that I am lucky to be her big sister. Our relationship is soooo strong & even though she is not able to speak, I can see that she understands what I am saying.

Spencer seems like such a genuinely good guy. This is so raw, real, and vulnerable. Kudus for speaking out about disabilities and normalizing being human! Also, good for you Imogen on being such a great support system for him!

Honestly you so brave to come on the internet and say this to people you don’t even know. I have had speak and language therapy in secondary school 4 times and I also had to have help with pronouncing my letter and number in primary school.

WOW! This video made me cry you and Spencer are both inspirational. It's 2020 and i still cant put my head around that people can be cruel because they "different". While i was in hospital when i was 10 years old i notice this little girl was doing sign language so i learnt all day with her and parents so i could communicate from this day i can still do it. YES MORE STORY TIMES!! xx

My dad has 60% hearing loss, so i completely understand what it is like to live with it. My dad is so self concious about needing people to repeat themselves, that since my mum passed away and can't repeat what people have said for him, he doesn't go out anymore because he feels people needing to repeat themselves is a nuisance, which of course it isn't ❤

So proud of spencer I know it’s not a topic that is covered but it should be when I was younger I contracted Meningococcal septicaemia which caused 50% hearing loss in my left ear and 20% in my right. It’s a hidden disability which should be spoken about as all disabilities should be celebrated we are not our disability we are our own person it’s just something that makes us US. I had many appointments with the ENT at a private clinic and had I think 7 operations for gromits in my ears WELL DONE SPENCER for talking about it I know I hated talking about it especially when people asked me about my hearing aid fortunately I can hear unaided as I mainly use lip reading but I can hear. SO proud of you both 💙💙💙💙

My partners deaf too. Has been since he was a child. Had several mastoid surgery’s. He was 70% deaf in his right ear and only 30% in his left. In January 2015 he woke up one morning and had completely lost his hearing. He was in hospital for 2 weeks with severe vertigo. He couldn’t even sit up without being sick. All because of his hearing. Even up to 6 months later he still struggled to walk long distances without wobbling around. To this day he’s now still 70% deaf in his right ear and completely deaf in his left. We now have a four year old daughter who has perfect hearing but we’re are constantly paranoid that she could lose hers too. This video made me so emotional 😩😩 I love how proud of your husband you are! You guys are an inspiration!! Thank you for making this 💕💕💕

I’m only 10 minutes in and this is putting a massive smile on my face- I wear hearing aids and can relate massively! Weirdly I passed the newborn test but had hearing aids by the time I was 3. This is also weird because it’s the same situation as my younger sister. At the moment I have pink hearing aids with silver glitter skeleton moulds. I feel really lucky since I never faced any bullying and i am getting in really well in high school, although without them I can’t hear anything. I love the how they make the moulds because like you say there is always a little left and I would have a little rubber snake 😂😂 well done for speaking about it 💓

So, I am moderately deaf and have had hearing aids since I was around five weeks old. I've never been a fan of them and when I make new friends that's the thing that scares me the most because they might see me differently. I've faced a lot of rejection but now I know who are the ones are real to me. I have a monitor that I have to give to the teacher because I am fourteen and learning GCSE work, I do wear my hearing aids but they are quite noticeable with my hair up so I just keep it down, however I do not wear my monitor as i am to embarrassed to give it in, even if it does amplify my hearing loss I just do not want people to hate me. My hearing aids are what I am extremely self-conscious about. I have found this video so relatable in the struggles Spencer had with sleepovers, the ability to lipread etc etc and reassured me that I am not alone during these hard school years. This video has inspired me to be happy in myself and wanting myself to achieve my dreams of going far in performing arts and I am so lucky to be a hun because i know i'm so safe here about my feelings hence why I spoke about this freely. I love you both so so much and thankyou for this

You are both such kind and gentle people. You are both so in love and are so loved by so many. Spencer, you treat her like a queen and in return she opens her heart. You both make me realise you should never settle for anything less than a Spencer and that you should be kind and loving.

I caught meningitis when i was 16 and doing my GCSE'S and as a result it destroyed the hair follicles in my ears and I went deaf, I had hearing aids at first and then two years later had a cochlear implant fitted. I know exactly how Spencer feels and it can be awful but it honestly I believe makes you a kinder, more empathetic, and humble person. P.s I always said the blue gewy stuff they put in your ear to make the moulds should be a therapy it feels so nice! 😂 something only a hard of hearing person would understand! 😂
