My favorite part about your channel is the progression. From the Olympic video (I know you're not fond of it but I've always liked it) which was more of a "standard" KZbin ocean liner mini documentary, to the later videos where you find your voice and really set yourself apart from the other KZbinrs doing ships. I mean yes, those guys will add the occasional fun quip. And that's always appreciated. But you, sir, have taken the humorous historian thing to the next level.

You have definitely hit your stride. In healthcare, we use “gallows humor” amongst ourselves to cope with the inevitable tragedies we encounter. Some of the humor used in your videos is arguably in the same vein and is much appreciated. An example would be your Andrea Doria video. Though your narratives can stand alone, the visuals and the “flash captions” are excellent enhancements

I love Legos a lot, and I have my own custom Titanic made out of Legos (Trust me it's better that average) I really like Histobrick's Lego ship mocs (Even though I haven't bought a single moc) I love your content a lot and find it hilarious yet informal to watch at the same time, which is my favorite format! An enjoyable little video and a neat little listen, I liked it a lot 👍 Could you do a video about the MV Doulos Phos? It’s a 109 year old former cargo ship/ocean liner/cruise ship/floating book fair (yes a floating book fair)/ship hotel. I just visited it yesterday and it’s really really interesting Ship considering all its close calls to the seabed or the scrapyard, you should talk about it.

The TSS Earnslaw in Queenstown, New zealand could be an interesting topic, built in 1912 and still in service today. I've even been on it and it's pretty cool to see the engines in function.

Watching your videos is always a good time. There are many good youtubers who make oceanliner/ship content, but they do have a tendency to be a bit too mono tone and lack the "entertainment" even though they are very informational. Your style of video is both informative and entertaining. I have told some of the jokes that you have made to some of my friends who are also history nerds like me and they all laughed at them too. Keep up the good work!

To be completely honest, a video I’d really love to see from you is a video about the German Battleship Gneisenau, sister ship to the Scharnhorst which was built in the run-up to the Second World War. Gneisenau has very little coverage despite having such an interesting yet tragically short service career in my opinion. Another ship I’d love to see covered is the German U-Boat SM U-103 which was the submarine sunk by RMS Olympic during the war, another ship (or I guess submarine) which gets little to no love. Also, while I believe it has been covered in the past, I’d love to see a video on the M.V Derbyshire, one of the worst disasters late 20th century.

I think your videos have a good blend of solid research and humor. That’s created your unique style and that’s what draws people in. I can always tell when someone makes a video about a topic and they’re doing it because it’s popular at a particular time, not necessarily because they want to make that video. It’s never quite as good as it could be. So don’t worry about covering ships that you aren’t interested in right now. Like you said - you might come back to it later. Keep up with that enthusiasm and choose ships that are going to lead to great videos. I think you’re doing a wonderful job!

a funny observation i made that nothing to do with anything: the world of ocean liner history video-making is filled with soft-spoken twinky white young guys… this channel, nautical study, big old boats, oceanliner designs, historic travels (to a certain extent) etc etc. like, what is it about this topic specifically that attracts twinks lmfaoooo i don’t mean anything mean by it don’t get me wrong, it’s just a silly pattern i’ve noticed. anyway love your channel and your brand of humour!

talking about war time ships. i know there are a few photos of britannics interior as a hospital ship but i don't think i have ever seen anything like that from olympic as a troop transport. i'd be curious what she was like inside as a troop ship. would assume it would have been similar to britannic? like just bland wood replacing first class stuff or maybe they left all the bare steel exposed?

Hi Marcus. =) I obviously love ocean liners and I watch those you mentioned along with Big Old Boats and Ocean Liner Design. It doesn't matter if someone has covered it before. I enjoy your voice and what comes off as a whatever sarcastic style. Humourwise even my wife sometime reacts positively and she's not even watching. A lot of people make sex jokes and use very profound words, I don't like that at all. You however use comedy without using profanity and for me that takes integrity. Not jumping on others success but doing your own thing. That is why your videos will always be interesting even if its not about ocean liners. Lots of clickbait pictures and distortion of the truth to get views, but you tell the truth and don't need that. Why? You got a natural talent. Regarding conspiracy theories about the _Titanic_ Disaster being somehow planned or the result of incompetence, I am of the belief that these exist because their followers simply cannot comprehend that such a massive loss of life was not only unavoidable by the time the iceberg was spotted, but also a genuine, blameless accident. They would rather believe their own delusions about the crew making a trivial mistake or that it was an inside job rather than accepting the sad reality of the situation. And to be honest, from a narrative perspective, it makes for a more powerful moral: Sometimes in life, you can make all the right decisions and still fail. Also, conspiracy theorists have clearly never been part of a class project. If 30 or so adolescents can't coordinate a very clear goal, then 15,000 Irish workers with a reputation for drinking wouldn't be able to either. On a lighter note, I think that it would be interesting to see a video talking about some of the Union-Castle Liners. They don't get much exposure, and I find the company's willingness to paint their ships lavender to be pretty bold, given that coal dust would naturally show up easier on any hull not painted black.

No, Mauretania was considerably faster. Olympic’s top speed was 24.2 knots while Mauretania just on her sea trials achieved a speed well over 27 knots. Cunard when ordering Mauretania intended for it to be the fastest ship in the world while white Star cared less about speed for the Olympic class and more about comfort and reliability. Mauretania held the transatlantic speed record all the way up to 1929.
