@@thatonewaspatyourpicnic7978 We have no evidence for a four bladed central prop. All known photos of the propellers are of _Olympic's_ (excluding the photos of the wing propellers on the wreck.) On the flip side, we have technical documents of Harland and Wolfe's where they penned out the propeller dimensions the wanted for each ship, and _Titanic_ had a three bladed prop. Additionally, there's a photo of a barge with a strange object that conforms really well with the aforementioned dimensions penned out by H&W for the Three bladed central propeller. Unfortunately, because it's on its side and a photo from 1912, it's hard to tell if it actually is a propeller or not.

Meh I get what you are saying but this is a lego kit. I think the level of detail is great for a lego kit. If you want something to be 100 percent historically accurate then there are other models you can get. When it comes to lego I think they did the great job with this. The whole point of this model is to show a basic overview of the Titanic in lego and in that aspect I think its great! You really do get a idea of the scale of the ship, and you get a general idea of what the ship looked like. Plus just the fact that the ship splits apart and you can see inside it is super cool! (Didnt bother me at all that it wasnt 100 percent accurate. Its lego you have to expect that). When you buy this kit dont go into it expecting a 100 percent perfect recreation of Titanic. In Lego's defense, inaccuracies are nothing new to their sets. Some sets in licensed themes like Star Wars and Marvel are notoriously inaccurate. Lego isn’t meant to be precise it’s meant to mimic in a very specific style. That’s the whole point. Now here’s the great thing. Minor inconsistencies which bug you can easily be remedied by just moving the parts around, you have complete control if something isn’t to your liking. Even things like the flags could be made by just printing them out and cutting to size. Should lego have done a little more research, maybe. I doubt they’ll do another Titanic set for at least another decade though, so this will get you 99% of the way there. I love this set, it's one of their best sets ever. Having said that, I have done some major changes too. Most importantly: the lifeboats. The set actually misses two of them! Collapsibles C and D are not even there. And those boats are so very important. That was my major problem with it. I also filled in the A deck promenade with tiles, because Lego just left it with empty studs. I changed a few things in the interior, as much as that was possible. My true feeling is that its utter garbage and a joyless cash-grab, profiting from tragedy, not unlike a certain submersible that is no longer with us. Why call it Titanic? Just call a fictitious name "RMS Aquitanic" why not, 4 funnels. That's where the commonality ends. But they called it Titanic. Why? Because it sells. No one buys a Lego set for Aquitania or Celtic. But everyone knows Titanic. Well if they insist on Titanic why not make it look like it. I think this is a botched cash grab far below the standards of Lego. And the price is insulting. Half the price? No problem, fine, decent deal can't expect much, it looks okay. But at the price, with all the hype and publicity, yes I expected better. Obviously not an actual replica but at least get the lines and proportions right... that's not asking that much. It looks like someone designed it from memory without having a picture of Titanic in front of them. I think the interiors are cool. The boilers and all that are the only thing I like about it. The exterior is just... yuck. Most famous ship, everyone who's how she looked like. I would be curious to see the development budget compared to other Lego sets. The Star Wars stuff looks really good. I adored my X-wing fighter. Of course it's basically only custom parts. But that's fine. With more custom parts the Titanic could look really good. It looks cheap. But it's not. Why am I so upset. Frankly I don't know. Maybe it's so jarring to me because I build model ships myself, but I get that not everyone has the patience for that. But wanting a nice Titanic model is a perfect excuse to get into it. Even a badly built one looks really good in comparison. If I see the Lego Space Shuttle, my thoughts are, yep that's a Shuttle. When I see Titanic my thoughts are, wtf is that? Then I figured huh, it's fine for 200 bucks. And then I saw the price. Now I get angry whenever someone mentions it. And the Titanic community was absolutely flooded (sorry) with endless posts of look at my Lego! When it came out almost everything was about Lego, they had to ban it. Because random people would just join this very niche community that usually discusses crap like what effect the open D deck Gangway door had on the sinking (huge cost her 1-2h) and then for 2 months straight it's all Lego... so I can't escape it. As a Titanic nerd, these things annoyed me too. As a LEGO fan, though, I'm just happy they even did the ship, considering their "values" often are used to deny us cool sets. I'm not concerned with the interior 'cause I honestly didn't expect anything to be there at all. But the exterior flaws yeah. And they're easily fixable. Which is what I did. I still have to get the Trumpeter one...but that one isn't as cheap to me. 'cause I'll still need to spend a ton importing all the inks needed to paint it as we don't have them easily available on my country. And unlike the LEGO one, buying the Trumpeter will also require paying for shipping costs (and taxes and duties if I order it from outside the EU). So the LEGO model wins. By the way, yes, Cunard still owns the White Star brand. Because brands are trademarks and, unlike copyrights, trademarks don't actually fall unto public domain unless the company goes under and no preservation is made of the trademark. So, while the Titanic plans are on the public domain, to use the White Star Line logos you'll need at least permission from Cunard. And whereas I'm sure Cunard is fine with small brands using the White Star Line brand without issue, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't allow a massive multi-million euro company like LEGO just use it free of charge 😂

You can get by with bare minimums for just one kit. No need to spend too much money. I build wooden ships so I don't want to spend a lot on extra tools and crap for plastic models just to build the Trumpeter Titanic (and maybe a Type VII U boat). Obviously the paints, you need those. There's collections sometimes, like buy the kit and get all the paints, they are often a a lot cheaper than buying separately. So if you are in no rush to build it, just check the interwebs occasionally, you'll find a nice sale someday. And get like a beginner set of tools, cheap and good enough for a few kits. Also get a cheap kit of another boat to build first as practice. Like some cheap Revell battleship or whatever you would enjoy. Because you do need a little bit of practice. The Trumpeter Titanic is not regarded the gold standard in plastic (and other) Titanic model kits. I will probably build mine as Olympic or Britannic because apparently I'm still an edgy teenager at 31. Hate to be that guy but if you want to check out my boats it's the Diana in boats from 1750-1799 on Model Ship World by Horatio Hornblower. (Creative, I know, but it wasn't taken so I had to. )

Oh and BTW Cunard still calls their premium service the "White Star service" or something like that. It's what remains of the grand old line... but yeah if you cruise on one of their monstrosities there's occasional mentions here and there and an obligatory reference to Titanic.

@@jimik89 That was on Olympic, but I've seen some noted Titanic historians claim Titanic's had three blades since WSL liked to experiment to see which arrangement was most efficient. If I remember correctly, Olympic went back and forth with having three or four blades on her central propeller due to the loss of her running mates.

@@jimik89 There's only one major source, a written account by the WSL of Titanic's specifications. It mentions Titanic having a three blade center propeller. Most Titanic historians today accept the 3 blade center propeller theory. Most depictions show 4 because Olympic and Britannic had 4 blade central propellers but a document describing a 3 blade central propeller (that was supposed to be installed on titanic during her post Olympic donor refit) came to light. Along with information matching Titanic’s original 4 blade propeller to being the one launched on the Britannic while the 3 blade was never seen again. Given how terrible some things on this model are, clearly they had at least some basic historian input, at least at some point. Great video, would be nice to see a retrofit kit to fix many of these things come out (even if its community/enthusiast driven, if its even possible at all).

I like that this video ended by saying “sincerely an idiot with a microphone” because that’s just how this video comes across. It’s a Lego set. There is a limitation to what can be achieved and what is practical to achieve. I.e. how many boilers are portrayed and how the interior sections are portrayed. It’s more about context as opposed to Rivet-counter accuracy. This set is marketed far more to the hardcore lego enthusiasts as opposed to the rivet counters so I’m fine with giving lego some leeway. Yes I’m a total rivet counter who would love the most obscenely model possible but the gripes you have with this are just…petty as hell. I have the set. It’s awesome. Get out of your own way and just enjoy it for what it is.

If this was 400 bucks, your comment would make sense and I’d agree with you. But if lego is going to charge $899 for a bunch of plastic bricks that create a model that is a disgrace to the titanic legacy, then your wrong. LEGO has shown on their larger Star Wars sets and rollercoaster set that they can create new unique lego parts to make the build look realistic, but this titanic looks like it was designed by a 12 year old that watched half of the movie titanic and fell asleep in all of the close up shots.

I definitely get some of these complaints. They couldve easily added the central support under the bridge, idk why they didn't. I just moved the British flag where the white star line flag was supposed to be. Sure, the British flag wasn't there, but a flag was there, and not on the bow, so it just makes more sense there. I do understand them having to squish the boat deck and A deck levels of the grand staircase together, since there's no way they would manage to fit the top level on boat deck as well as fit the pin that holds the ship together

As also a Titanic enthusiast and a buyer of this set, I'd agree with most of Nautical's "protests", even if most of them were exaggerations. But out of the whole set, I think the money I spent (Which was Canadian money and $899 mind you,) was worth it... probably? Overall, I'd rate it an 8.9/10. I really enjoyed the set, although it could easily break up after touching only 1 single itty-bitty piece... (exaggeration too, yes.) One thing I also noticed about the Lego Titanic was that near the bridge's lifeboats, where the 2 collapsible boats were supposed to be, Lego doesn't present it. This also means that Lego's Titanic didn't add the 2 lifeboats dangling over the side, with the collapsibles beside it, on the boat deck. But good job though, Lego!

I agree there a few inaccuracies the could've fixed, but you can always fix it yourself if you're that ticked off about it. I also love TIATNIC and if you're not worried too much about details, this is a great set (I do not have it yet but am planning to get it hopefully soon), but a nonbrick model would be better if your into accuracies (although a few models I have are less accurate in some aspects then the LEGO version lol). The flag at the bow of the ship does bug me though and I probably won't add it on to mine when I'm building. That's my overview. Thanks

You come across like this is your first ever encounter with Lego, understand that Lego is made from certain elements, like the periodic table, the can and they can’t (but mostly can’t)just creat new elements for every set, that’s the challenge, and it works incredibly well, the smallest piece Lego make is roughly a flat tile quadrant piece with a radius of maybe 6mm, you compare it unfairly to specific diecast or moulded models which can be basically 100% accurate scaled down pieces, look at T scale model trains, I’ve made 1/500 air fix kits as a kid, nice but they don’t impress like these Lego builds do, they take on a problem and it’s fun to see how they find their solution given their periodic table of elements,

I did fix the detail of the third support beam just under the bridge, that's an important detail for me looking at the ship's "face", as it were. Noted the size of the forward crane myself though, as well as the oddity of the flag at the bow tip, but hadn't really done anything with those. I was also more bothered by the lack of all 4 collaspables as opposed to the fudged boat shape, but I haven't really found a solution for adjusting it yet. Interesting video regardless. Feel like most of the details you pointed out are an ok level of fudging as far as how LEGO can do things, though I get the issue with some of them (shame about a lack of a 1-stud clock tile, but is what it is). Honestly not sure how you'd do the orange color of the inner sides of the poop deck walls, them being 1-stud thick means it'd be hard to get the other color actually in there without compromising the outer wall side.
