Maybe I'm a fool, but I thought Hal still had the integrity to not become complicit in a scheme like this. I think it was Zer0's idea, but Hal sat by and did nothing, knowing full well his friend was getting screwed over. Then to come on stream and deflect and make excuses, at least take responsibility. Though I will say it is quite shitty how Hal has to take the brunt of this while Zer0 is chilling on vacation.

I didn’t look at it this way. Hal said that gen was talking to other teams prior to getting dropped so he could of easily left them too. Additionally, Hal said that Zer0 and Gen we’re having problems so I’m assuming that Zero was already looking for a replacement way before they got 20th place. It sucks but there was no real good way of doing this. The only other alternative is to stick together and you would not want to tell your teammate that they are getting kicked prior to a big tournament. Ideally these things need to happen in the off season when everyone has enough time to get things sorted out.

it's not hard to communicate with Gen first about it, "Gen, we're thinking we want to drop you, with all due respect. We're going to try to figure out what we can do and what you can do" and then move on to explain why you're dropping him or whatever. Hal intentionally delayed the news whether he WANTED to fuck him over or not. His intentions don't matter. His actions do and he chose to wait far too long. The excuse of "we didn't tell him before the org b/c it would have been awkward if they said no" is empathetic, which isn't bad, but did ultimately put Gen in a really tough situation. As someone who has high empathy, Hal should have bit the bullet and said something to Gen ASAP to give him time to look for a team KNOWING he wasn't wanted rather than having a hunch. All the logistics can work out later the sooner you tell the main person involved. God damn. Hind sight is 20/20 but Hal sounds like he just wants to defend himself rather than admit he fucked up.
