Thats one hell of an exit strategy if you ask me. Chaos invading and you can't hold them off? Yes that is correct. They are very hard to destroy permanently, not impossible. So they have a fixed number. And theoretically they could be rendered extinct. But their numbers are so great, that it's functionally impossible for the time being. And if the Great Awakening happens they will outnumber humans and orks both

Basically it was a calculation that told them that they would be in a better position to rule the galaxy and one day retain their souls once again. That's why The Silent King went out into the universe into exile to use this stretch of time to find a solution to their predicament, since other beings in other galaxies must surely have done this dance before. They are not warp sensitive beings either, but that doesn't mean they don't know everything about it either, they use warp based technology to imprison and sap the energies of the C'tan and they also use it in dolman gates. They need the warp to regain their souls and they need a number of vessels to do so, what I think they were hoping for is a time where it got restored to some semblance of stability again. The Necrons have a huge role in the future of both the galaxy and humanity so I see an alliance in the future some time down the road. The silent king has probably seen any number of God Emperor's before and knows how to restore him possibly.

I still sometimes lament the loss of Oldcrons, with things like Pariahs, and can get annoyed at the antics Tomb Kings in SPACE!!!! Newcrons often get up to, but some of them are pretty neat, so I still like the faction. I think I'm mostly fond of the Nephrek Dynasty, with their metagold Overlord Sylphek. Part of it is certainly that I am a fan of Hypercrypt Legion; it is really good, but mostly I just really love movement shenanigans powers, and I was fond of these even in past editions. Also fond of the gold color scheme, and possibly making different "ranks" have different amounts of metagold, with only the Overlord being all gold.
