Honestly a balance is needed, study fusha to understand Quran and access religious books Study a dialect to speak to normal people in the Arab world. Outside of academic settings, no one speaks fusha, from my experience the only ones who speak fusha are non Arabs who are still learning the Arabic language. Imagine only knowing fusha but then you go to a class and the teacher is using amiyya to explain (which is very commonly) to teach the class. If you go to Yemen for example to study the deen and don’t speak amiyya, you won’t understand what the teacher is even saying, learning a dialect is very important
@squidguard15 ай бұрын
@@Dhaifaalmansurah This is just false. I can give you many examples where a classical word has a completely different meaning in colloquial Arabic For example the root word for Go in many dialects is روح If you only studied fusha you would think someone is talking about the soul while in everyday reality they’re talking about going to the shop…. Study fusha as a foundation, learn a dialect to be able to actually speak to people in the language
@squidguard15 ай бұрын
@@Dhaifaalmansurah What I said was false was your claim of only needing to understand root letters. It just doesn’t work like that I myself switch between MSA and amiyya but when it comes to conversational Arabic you’re really at the mercy of the person you’re speaking with. Most people will understand you, but you won’t understand them. If they choose to engage with you in fusha then that’s great, but if they speak amiyya and you only know fusha then good luck trying to understand them Brother I will give you a good example, Abu Taymiyyah went to study in Yemen. He knew fusha, he’s a student of knowledge but he couldn’t understand what the teachers were saying cause they were speaking amiyya, he was lost, then went to Egypt to study amiyya This was after he had been to Yemen and Saudi Arabia to seek knowledge. He still don’t know what they were saying cause he only knew how to speak fusha. The scholars themselves speak amiyya when teaching
