At low RPM the boost after the intercooler is about 0.5 psi higher than either side before the intercooler. Your pressure gauges need calibrating. (6:00 time)

Love the design of the X Ram, would like to see it on a hemi and viper motor too! I see the torque band is a narrow 2000 rpm and your motor is topping out at 6100 rpm... Small block Chevy should be good for 6500-7000 rpm. What happens when you can only find 87 or 89 octane pump gas and there is no octane boost available?

How does the factory knock sensors work? I thought they were calibrated to the engine in stock form. Wouldn't modifying the engine change the sensitivity of the sensor? Also I noticed the water temp was low. Wouldn't you want to run it at an operating temperature to get an accurate result? I doubt the engine will run at 100 degrees in the car.

Its a nice setup...but you can make the same power with a junkyard build...If you have tons of $$$ and just want a drop in unit...this is the way to go....if you are working with a budget...you can make 1000 HP on a junkyard build...you could probably buy a built short block...say a 408 Lsx run the intercooler upfront... Yes it will be drivable like a factory car and pay less than what this NRE package will cost. Awesome fabrication! A person could probably blow numerous junkyard builds and still wouldn't come close to what NRE charges for their setups. Tom this is really great shit for the industry. That being said where's the DIY ls turbo kits at? All this knowledge and still nothing for the back yard racer! Why can't the weekend motor builders and racers get a break and have an affordable option. Personally I don't care what directions my turbos spin as long as I get boost! I'm just saying good boost no matter how ugly but dependable and rugged at an affordable price. 100k is not affordable I can get a house for that around here.
@BigzeeeN10 жыл бұрын
lol but u could hang w jeff lutz at dragweek with not trailor and with ac powersteering and has a warranty
@methodical_6610 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with king0dasouf...I actually sent NRE an email to asking if they could develop a kit for the weekend motor builders/racers That don't have deep $$$$ pockets for the expensive packages they out out. Something that is reasonably priced bit with NRE quality. I also don't care what direction my turbo(s) spin...as long as I'm getting boost. In my email...for the regular person...I asked instead of twin turbo...just develop a kit around a single turbo system...to bring down costs....of course I didn't get a response... But I did mention that there is a market for the common guy to have an NRE setup but that didn't have deep pockets for chromed out everything...mirror turbos...etc...but like I said...my email obviously was ignored. NRE's prices are ridiculous...excellent craftsmanship...but the prices are ridiculous. Check out the sloppy mechanics builds...they build stuff on a budget...and a lot of their cars are running 8's and 9's....To everyone saying well a budget build will only last for 100 passes or less...or more...but eventually will blow. True...yes...no...maybe...but anything mechanical and with the boost will...no matter who builds it and puts their name on it. Like I said in earlier comments...based on NRE's prices...I could build multiple short blocks on a budget...or run it with stock internals...get a turbo kit...or fabricate a front mount intercooler single turbo setup based off flipped stock manifolds...run it off a factory computer...or microsquirt...and yes it will drive like stock....do all of that and multiple times if the motor blows... And still not come close to NRE's prices
@BigzeeeN10 жыл бұрын
i mean i have a buget build myself but if i had the money i would buy a nelson, for the longevity and absolute cool factor ive been watching for years and its inspired me in what i build so i guess i come from a different standpoint.
@methodical_6610 жыл бұрын
BigzeeeN lmao...warranty...that's funny....whether or not a person buys this package doesn't matter regarding hanging out with Jeff Lutz....my point even brung Inc up his name was that no matter who a builder or user of a particular build is...anything mechanical can and will break...no matter what products are used to build a motor... No matter who the tuner is....and no matter who the customer or user is. Lmao...warranty....I'd like to see what NRE's definition of a warranty is on their setups..
@BigzeeeN10 жыл бұрын

@AB-80X9 жыл бұрын
+Adam Clark Or have you considered it's the other way around?
@AB-80X7 жыл бұрын
Starstriple Cross rams are nothing new. Also, you have to remember that NRE has copied things before - like their mirror image turbos, which in fact are just Turbonetics units. Sure NRE builds very shiny engines, but I don't get the hype at all. He's mouthing off about 1000-1500 hp engines, when others are building 2500-4000 hp engines. Add to that the absolutely horrific service history of NRE and their extremely delayed builds. If you get the chance, try talking to guys like Bob Madara, Eddie Young, Steve Morris, Dustin Whipple or the guys at Mast or Butler Performance if you want to see real customer commitment and service. Unless you're a big name, Tom Nelson won't give you the time of day once he's got your order and money. The others you can call in the middle of the night and they will still answer to help you. And yes, I know of this personally. I know two guys who have had to pull the plug on NRE engine orders with threats of legal action, and one who's engine that was not up to spec.
7 жыл бұрын
ABOlsen69X I mean, I wouldn't say they're straight up copying. now, would I buy from NRE? Noooooo lol everything you've said is about the smartest thing anybody here in these comments would be able to hear

ABOlsen69X Yeah, I totally bet people are making 4000hp out of a Twin Turbo 427.

Jαѕσи Tσdd What are you talking about? Nobody said anything about 4000 hp 427's. But ask Proline or Steve Morris to do a 2500? They can do that no problem. They also build 4000+ big cube engines. What I'm saying is that fact that NRE is boasting about their turbonetics copy turbos and 1200 hp LSX, is pointless and not very special. Combine that with the utterly horrid service rep NRE has, and Tom Nelsom ought to think about stop flapping his jaw and worry about those who have actually spent their money on his engines and parts.

Dude this is just the beginning, showing off their new invention and aren't even done with it. Plus how cool is it that you finally don't have to deal with mounting an inner cooler and run piping throughout the engine bay. And that's just 14 lbs of boost, if the engine they built could handle it, they'd probably turn it up to 20 lbs and make 1,200+ out of it.
@thewakz10 жыл бұрын
The point is more than just 1000hp. They also have drivable car, reliability up to 100k miles. Smooth idle. That torque.. it's all about that torque curve, or lack thereof. You put this engine in ANYTHING it will be amazing. This product is genius.

BigzeeN....so you're saying a person can't make 1000 or more HP...and use the factory PCM and have it be a daily driver and considerably cheaper than what NRE charges? Listen before you start telling me your resume of how you are an experienced tuner or trying to point out how I'm not a tuner...you know nothing about me dude lol. But of my posts...stating how a person can get 1000 hp ...use the factory PCM...still have it as a daily driver and so on...that is true! A person can buy a junkyard motor...or buy a shortblock ...make 1000 HP and have it idle and drive as a daily driver....but it depends on the tune...what gas your running...compression ratio...etc
@AB-80X10 жыл бұрын
They are not making 1000 on pump. 850 was the pure pump number.
@ErikThePieMan10 жыл бұрын
Actually he clearly states at the end of the video 1000 horses, 1000 torque on pump gas.
@AB-80X10 жыл бұрын
ErikThePieMan No. He failed to mention that they used a mix of pump and race gas to get the 1000 hp number. I'm not disputing whether or not it can make that number on 91 only, but they didn't prove it here. Watch from 13:30. They added timing and race gas, which also seems correct as boost was up to about 15 psi.
@modeltrainman9 жыл бұрын
At the end he does say 1000 horse on 91 octane.
@blow0me9 жыл бұрын
+ABOlsen69X He's a little vague in what he says, just that he added a little timing and gas. Nothing specific as to what gas, but perhaps a little coy of him if it is race gas given he seems to be pushing a pump gas 1000hp story.
@AB-80X9 жыл бұрын
+blow0me Looking at the A/F and hearing the way he says "there's your 1000/1000, with a splash of gas", I don't think there's any doubt he's talking about race gas. He has referred to race gas as simply "gas" on several other occasions. In other videos where he has leaned out or fattened up the map, he has said so as well. The only time he talks about pure 91, is when he does the 9 psi pull - the bit at the end is just blowing smoke and talking up the engine. Nelson is generally a bit coy and vague about these things, and often we don't see the numbers he claims. Look at a guy like Steve Morris, he would never claim 3000 hp unless the engine made 3100 and he had the proof. Have a look around the web and see what people who have had engines built by Nelson have to say about him and his business. Many are about as "pleased" as most who have had the dubious pleasure of forking over their money to John Hennessey. Not saying he's a fraud and a scam like Hennessey, just saying everything isn't as truthful, pink and fluffy in the wonderful world of NRE as they might would like to claim. Just my o2
