Something that didnt come up in the playthrough: the game doesnt keep track of trainers you defeat after 300. You wont be able to rematch them either way, but normally the game keep tracks up how many trainers you have defeated. In base game, this didn't matter, as there were less than 300 trainers in Paldea, but there are over 200 in Paldea (despite the region feeling so empty) and Kitakami adds enough that the total number of trainers is over 300. Should you beat over 300 trainers before defeating all the Oger clan trainers, the game wont keep proper track of you beating Oger clan trainers, and will deny you the rewards for beating them as well as lock you out of the final battle! Most of the rewards can be purchased, but the ability patch you get at the end is a relatively rare item that only drops very rarely in 6 star raids which, besides weird jank by changing the current raid dens when a raid event starts/end, is only one per day. The mightiest event raids also tend to drop one ability patch per event which is another source if you keep up with the game and beat the mightiest raids regularly. I assume this number is also used in the base game for those guys at the stations that give you items if you beat enough people in the area, and that you might be able locked out of their rewards if you haven't already met their requirements prior to 300 trainers defeated. Even if you love this game enough to be a completionist, the game will punish you for it!

The Scarlet and Violet world design is actually near perfection. The game is so empty that most of the time when the game lags, only people that know how fast you are supposed to be can tell because nothing but the player is actually moving. Once in a town or near an overworld Pokemon with proper idle animation, it does start to hurt the eyes a bit, maybe the next dlc will take another step in the right direction and remove all towns and overworld Pokemon. That would also fix the hitbox issues !

The biggest crime to me of the last 2 pokemon games are just how empty the worlds are. Remember Mario Galaxy how you could see a volcano and travel to it, and in the same world travel to an ice area with ice sliding physics, and then be able to go inside of a building? SWSD/SV are just an open grass field, buildings you can’t enter, and nothing interactable on the overworld

I don't get why gamefreak refuses to hire like 2 seasoned programmers who's sole jobs would be to just clean stuff up. Like in Sun and Moon how they generated every npc model on every map where they appear instead of just having a bank of models, so there are like 20 lillys just gumming up the code of every map. Stuff like that clearly still happens because SV is so bad and only gets worse the longer you have the game on. It would be chump change for them and make their games easily 2x better (maybe they could even make the terrain look like a real switch game).

This gets a little funnier when you try the DLC without beating the main story first. Ogerpon is level 20. The loyal trio when you encounter them for main story is 30, but their level is automatically 70 regardless of where you are in the main story. They forgot to level scale the loyal trio for the post main story part of the DLC.

I'm commenting for the algorithm, but I really don't know what to say. The performance is like you're trying to run a game on a computer that's not powerful enough... except that the Switch is easily powerful enough to run games with better graphics, more moving models, more particle effects, greater draw distance, etc. than this has. Remember that time Game Freak figured out a way to squeeze 250 pokemon and two regions onto a single Gameboy cartridge while also identifying and clearing up a ton of bugs and oversights?

It runs smoothly, basically only crashes if you mess around with the debug cheats or jostle the physical hardware, is a strong contender for two of the best soundtracks in a series known for great music, and has pretty decent side content in the special stages(arguably better than the main gameplay loop). Pokémon Scarlet and Violet do not run consistently on any form of Switch hardware, with crashes and framerate issues that are inexplicably tied to where the game files are installed and what mode the Switch is in. The music varies from "fantastic" to "cargo-cult imitation of what other open-world RPGs like BotW and Genshin sound like", and most of the former were from Toby Fox, a guest composer. The side content is sandwiches. Literally the only thing ScarVio has over Sonic 3D Blast is that it stuck to a core gameplay loop that hasn't changed or evolved since the Game Boy, rather than having a weird experimental structure and style. In all other regards, comparing the two is an insult to the Sonic game - which also applies to Sonic 06, another infamously buggy and rushed game, and Sonic Frontiers, an objectively better open-world experience in every way that released within about a month of base ScarVio.

I just wanted to thank you for making vids because I did not realize just how much Tropium I was inhaling. I used to be a defender of Scarlet and Violet, but now... Good God what did I see in them?? I liked the story, but I've experienced better from indie devs, the characters are fine, the gameplay is okay, and the graphics are... there. And the jank and frame rate drops are unreal. Honestly, it's so frustrating to watch Scarlet and Violet. Literally the only good thing about modern Pokémon is VGC. The competitive side of this game makes things very fun, but the game you have to play to get there is terrible. What makes things worse is that when any other video game franchise does this, like Star Wars, they get criticized until the cows come home. But when Pokémon makes a buggy, crappy game, tens of millions of people buy it anyway bc of brand recognition. It's like Pokémon has such a psychological and emotional hold on the gaming community that people are incapable of not buying the games when they're bad.

I've seen a few people comparing this game to Sonic '06, which I think is unfair to the hedgehog. From what I've heard, Project 06 takes that game and makes it Actually Fun, while being as faithful as possible. I don't think anything like that could ever exist for this game, just because of how much you'd need to change about it. You'd basically be making a different game at that point. Can I just say, I thought you were being so uncharitable treating that preteen boy as a baddie for having pretty standard preteen boy reactions and thought processes that he was obviously going to mature past (even when basically everyone goes ‘of course he should have the damn ogre just let me dex it real quick’). If truth be told SV could've been postponed by 2 yrs & more & there'd still be enough Pkmn content to occupy us while we anxiously waited for G9. Hau? Winter 2022- LA, Late 2023- DLC(s) for LA & then 9th gen in 2024 (& that doesnt even include a yr where Pkmn may take a break from any mainline stuff & use that gap to port their old games on latest hardware), making G8 last for 5 yrs. DLC really helps in here as it's not a new game release but just dropping some chunk of content onto a existing game. 'Sides LA got done dirty (released in Jan. right after holiday season & not the conventional month of Nov. meaning it was feasibly robbed of higher sales figures & SV unquestionably pulled attention away from it a month l8r).

Shin megami tensei is awesome as mentioned. 5 is a switch exclusive and it's very accessible for newcomers. Monster hunter stories is also fantastic and really drives home just how bad GF is, that game has insane production values. If you're looking for indie games there's a lot available. My favorite has been Monster Sanctuary, it's a metroidvania with turn based battles and the team building is really damn good. You can usually build a monster in multiple ways to synergize with different teams, and it also has great randomizer and challenge modes!

​@@filip1159I'd personally recommend Cassette Beasts if you want something more traditionally turn-based, the combat system is super unique (weaknesses inflict debuffs instead of just doing more damage) and the monster designs have a ton of charm to them

This is why I just play other creature collector games now (or monster taming games or whatever). So long as Gamefreak can expect money regardless of the quality of their games, they'll keep churning out bad games. They have no incentive to do better. I was shocked when FE added voice acting but I shouldn't have been. FE had a much lower floor than Pokemon. For Gamefreak to actually try they'd have to think that if they didn't, sales would be impacted. Instead they are just consistently rewarded for making bad games due to Switch being a money printing platform.

@@ImportedCheese Yeah, and even when it was just limited voice acting like with just a few lines, I was cool with that. And then when they did a fully voiced game in 3H I was kind of blown away. It's very disappointing how Pokemon makes so much more profit and Gamefreak can clearly afford to invest so much more in these games, but doesn't because the cost cutting is more profitable I guess. The Pokemon games are legitimately just bad now.

Muffled music during crouching is a popular stealth feature that is implemented in both pure stealth games and games with stealth elements. This game, btw, is filled with these cliche-like things and while some hit the home right (like the muffled music. Btw, it also happens when you're under water in S/V which is also another popular technique), some are thrown in so randomly. Like, cool that we can cheer in Raids to raise attacks. Why can't we do it during Titan battles, although respawn queue buffs should work like that. Same with a party: your school friends should be "rewards" that either have a special skill or give a passive buff. But of course GF didn't do any of that. Anyway, thanks again!

and for anyone who sais that this is because the switch has not the highest processing power, nah fam. most of this is just shit coding with overblown code. i'm not expecting overworked programmers that have to do things in impossible to achieve time frames to work in assembly but with efficent code you could run anything on the switch. monolith made xenoblade work on the ii so this should be the easiest task ever
