Super-low volume on this vid when viewed in Chrome on windows, I can barely hear it in a quiet room. It's ok-ish on a phone, presumably because the app is applying audio compression.

Please could you explain equality law relating to employment in local government. A lot of councils advertise jobs for over £30k (£40k including on-costs) requiring degree/level 6 qualifications or experience. So person with lower qualifications can get the job and earn the same as higher qualified professionals. For example AAT qualified accounting technicians (qualification level 4) without any managerial duties in the same finance section are in jobs a few grades apart with pay difference of up to £10k. Some technicians are mere assistants and others are considered by council as accountants and are on the same grades as professionally qualified accountants (qualification level 6). How would this situation be interpreted by equality law and PSED? Would it be considered as indirect discrimination as people with protected characteristics are on lower grades even though they have identical qualifications and have been qualified for the same number of years? Is the public sector employer supposed to advance equality of opportunity for equally qualified employees? Can councils reduce or waive qualification requirements for senior posts and replace it with experience? Thank you.

Your level of education isn't a protected characteristic

@@okok72277 You are absolutely right. Level of education is not a protected characteristic. However employees with protected characteristics tend to be on lower grades than equally qualified colleagues.

@@mellys491 what's your question, put simply? It wasn't very clearly worded so not 100% sure what you mean
