Finally..... An explanation for what has been going on with me... Finally, I am getting answers to questions in my heart I thought no one had answers for. My whole life was riddled with the tremendous fear that someone would find out that my high achieving was a total fraud, and I would be not just exposed, but that I would die from the humiliation of being found out... That fear in me spiraled into several years of panic attacks until I could not be around people for fear of being exposed. It took years of challenging myself to face the fear, understand that all my fears are based on lies I have been told about myself, and get beyond it. But I still struggle in stepping into my God-given purpose and seem to hit invisible walls when I try to succeed in anything.

Trauma, been working at my job in the healthcare system for 4 years. Work well with psych patients but don’t have a degree. Social Workers believe I do have a gift. Fear keeps me from going to school. Sometimes feel like a fake.

That’s exactly how I feel! I’ve been working at a bank for over 20 years now but never got a degree. It makes me not feel “legit” or good enough.

Thank you so much Barbara. This is exactly what I've been working hard on this for the past year especially negative self talk. I've gotten much better at quickly correcting my negative thoughts and replacing them with more positive ones and accepting that I AM good enough. My faith in God is very helpful too.

What would the opposite of imposter syndrome be? Knowing you do all that you can but still feeling like others don't see you as worthy as you see yourself - so you overcommit and overproduce not because you don't feel like you're afraid people might see you as a failure because you feel like one. But you do it so you can prove to them your worth?

That’s a good question! I feel that way too. Not like I’m a fraud because I think I’m experienced in my field, but as if others actually don’t see me as experienced. I feel like they disqualify my qualifications.

Holy moly! @19minutes with the "good enough" I had a flash back! & naturally as a child, I had a good enough attitude, it was naturally built in - obviously I did my best but was able to be happy with it however it turned out, then my mother would come in with her perfectionism & start with "you can/should do better / try harder / don't put enough xyz in" etc! Wow! Thankyou!

I am into an anxiety And depression bout for four years. I cannot reach my emotions and feelings as they are covered up by this overwhelming anxiety. You touched on that here but what can I listen to from your talks that address this. I feel like I’m an imposter for the last four years pretending to be normal.

For the 22:01, you might be comparing that to somebody who presents in a completely a confident way is exactly talking about me. I have compared to myself to my mom, hope I would be able to like her. Brave like her, funny like her, etc. In the meantime, I was criticizing myself why I’m that weak!

Thanks Barbara, great content! Every entrepreneur struggles with imposter syndrome and being able to recognize it is so crucial to being the best you can be. I also suggest everyone to write a letter to their future self. Being able to visualize the life you want and the goals you want to achieve can be so helpful. Thanks for sharing!

"I don't know but I will find out" Ask for help. Shame, not good enough. So true. "What would a friend/coach/mentor say to me?" "I am good enough" Comparing my "inside" to someone else 's "outside" Great tips! Need to work on these. Ty

Hi Barbara, I believe I have imposters syndrome. I first heard about it in an article about woman in national geographic magazine (Woman a Century of Change 11/2019) I am not a high achiever and I have not yet "made something of myself" I have always suffered from thinking I was not good at anything and was the proverbial loser. I ended up in prison and I got a chance to discover some amazing talents and gifts that I had. When my world finally got to slow down I got the chance to do things I never thought I could. So I write, I do poetry, I sew, coordinate dances that make woman cry, lead woman into making big changes. But with every poem I write, every outfit I makE or woman I inspired, I said to myself every time. I ave no idea what I am doing. I am a fake. It's a fluke. I never trust the evidence and believe I got Lucky. I always believed that I was a fake so I never tried any harder. I don't know if I'm an imposter or I have imposters syndrome. Because I've never been a high achiever, does that mean I don't ave imposters syndrome?
