This is the same type of situation with avatar because Avatar (2009) was nominated for 9 Oscar's and when the second one came out nearly a decade later, it was nominated for only 4. I feel like the high budget movies that end ends up as a sequel will get less nominations because of its same type of "style" that's how I feel but it's pretty hard to explain..- 2. A lot by myself is Hispanic and I didn't know much about Emilia Pérez and I was sort of rooting for it, but once it won the Golden Globes, I noticed that a lot of people were giving a huge negativity and once my friend who is from Mexico herself, she explained to me why and I washed it myself and I'm absolutely disgusted on how this French movie is being recognized. It makes me feel so mad that this director how do use such a massive stereotypical on a lot of controversies within Latin America, especially not doing a proper research about the Latin America and the actual story. It sucks so much about it and I hate the fact that it's been nominated for 13 times. I will never forgive the Oscars for that or any other award shows that gave this movie high praise... 3. I feel like the best picture lineup is decent enough. I feel like a complete unknown is a mediocre movie like it's a good movie but it's not like bad. It's like maybe like a 7/10 movie. I was expecting for like four nominations or less, but I am surprised that it was able to get such a high amount of nominations, especially the most shocking part directing. The brutalist is like my most top 15 movies of 2024 not so serious about it. It is my type of movie that I really love about everything of it but for some reason it's just not hitting me hard enough for some reason. I was expecting nickel boys to have more nominations like at least some type of acting or mainly cinematography. But it's like giving me vibes of like past lives and women talking. But I'm mostly happy that the movie I am still here was nominated. It was actually one of the most shocking moment ever because it was not even in my top 10 predictions for best picture and I have to say I am happy for the people of Brazil, especially Fernanda Torres. But it's now making me think since it's both nominated for international future and best picture. I feel like I'm still here will probably win international future film because the Oscars might realize mistakes they did on nominating Emilia Pérez. 5. I think the directing category was already predicted that Denis was gonna get snubbed anyway because other award shows were starting to completely have hit and miss with him by nominating him, so it's pretty much unsurprising for me. But I am surprised and upset that Edward Berger was not nominated for director for Conclave.

It's really disgusting how a stereotypical film like Emylia Perez is nominated and seen by the academy as a better representation of Latin America than I'm Still Here, which literally talks about the military dictatorship that was a reality in many Latin countries (I guess the critics don't know about Plan Condor), and made by real Latinos. It seems that a representation of Latin America only fits in the American film academy if it is to represent crime, drugs and hypersexualization (and that in a stereotypical way and within the Western perspective).

Those nominations were a total joke. Dune Part 2 was the best film of the year and deserved far more than it got (at least give Denis his directors nomination). I wasn't the biggest fan of Anora (it was underwhelming for me). Emilia Perez was better for me than Anora but its still a weak entry. Part of me wants Emilia Perez to sweep just to show what a joke the academy awards were this year.

Have to agree with your assessment of a Complete Unknown, thought it was fine but nothing special. Went into it with the question "what is gained from a feature film of this story that the documentaries haven't already shown" and the answer was very little, just a somewhat embellished account of Dylan's relationship with Woody Guthrie, and a deeper, more understanding look at Pete Seeger's experience and dedication to folk music, I did like seeing the nods for Norton and Barbaro, thought they both did terrific

I feel like the Oscars go through a pendulum swing every year (or even every other year). For every Oppenheimer, Everything Everywhere or Parasite we have a Coda, Green Book, and Bohemian Rhapsody type of contenders. This year they’re on a downward after 2 years great films everyone can agree they love. My hope is next year will be better. But I will also take wins here. The fact that a body horror movie like The Substance can get Picture, Director, Actress and more is cool. I’m Still Here getting in without showing up anywhere for Best Picture is great. Nickel Boys, for as experimental and different it is, still surprised me by getting into Picture. It got the Past Lives/Women Talking treatment (Picture and Screenplay dual nominations). It’s clear the academy doesn’t appreciate certain types of films. Movies like Challengers or Dune 2 (sci-fi in general) can’t catch a break with the ever-changing demos of the Academy. Also clear that they were early Spring releases and the Academy essentially relegated their attention for movies that premiered at Cannes and Fall Festivals and forward.

Pro: They did do better Respect on the Animated Films then the last 2 years, with The Wild Robot getting 3 & Flow getting the double for Animated & International, a better improvement.

Sounds like ‘nominees to be determined’,, means who are they willing to give credit to,, to boost their careers. Who are they willing to snub with in the group,, that will not get the career bump from winning an Oscar. So basically it’s politics within the group. Whoever they decide to snub,, will be promised that they will get their nomination and possible. Oscar win in some distant future. By the way, Dune being snubbed,, is absolutely ridiculous. It only reveals the fact that the Oscars has got to be rigged. Just like sports,,, and everything else.

Same goes for Robert Eggers who is looking like a young Chris Nolan getting snubbed for everything until he makes a biopic or something acceptable to the Academy.
