Jon, you did a magnificent job explaining the essential mechanisms in Keyflower, one of my favorites. Bravo.

Thanks for taking a look at Walking in Burano. We'll release an english edition at Gen Con this year, including three promo townsfolk.

An idea, now that you are replaying the 2018 games, maybe a video where you comment on the games where your opinion changed significantly (maybe even the ones you stopped liking) and the reasons why. One of the problems with the cult of the shiny is that a lot of games are played once or twice, and nobody gets enough plays in to realize that the game is not as deep or is much deeper than most people think

I agree that many games lose their luster quite fast. I was super excited about Crown of Emara at first and now don't feel an urge to play it again, and my second play of Pioneer Days made me realize I wanted to like it far more than I actually did. Going back and covering these changes is something I'll keep in mind for the future. I have been known to talk about updated opinions on games that I play for the first time in a long time in these videos, but haven't done a consolidated video about them.

Thank you very much for the specifics on each of your opinions. It's very useful not only to hear if a game is good or not, but also why you consider that, and even taking into account your mood and or play errors. Also going back and re-reviewing your opinion when something like missing a rule is a great thing, that I don't see much reviewers doing.

Yay Obsession! I did not know there is a detailed expert variant. I was already doing my own version to pair down the randomness. The game is good and very thematic but the base mode can be punishing if you are taking it seriously.

You should definitely check it out, I think it makes the game far better. Glad you've been enjoying it :)

I very much enjoy drafting games, but I have pretty much the opposite take as you do. I have little desire to play Key Flow again because I can play Keyflower. The auction is what makes the game great for me, so taking that part out removes much the the reason why I pull it off the shelf. Key Flow is a fine game, but I am guessing it won’t have much staying power for most people, especially when it is compared to the game it is based on.

Totally agree. Keyflower is a heavily tactical game but with a ton of depth. The relative lack of importance of the winter tiles is a feature not a bug. Even the best player on boardgamearena, for example, doesn't think too heavily about what winter tiles he's starting with.

I think a big part of people's ranking of the two games will go along with how much they like or dislike auctions and drafting. In general I don't really enjoy auctions as a mechanic and over time I am enjoying drafting more which is a big factor as to why Key Flow is my preference. I also really like having lots of conditional scoring things to chase and the play time difference is a HUGE factor for me, but obviously won't be for others. I'm glad I got to play Key Flower and I totally see why many people like you hold it with such high esteem.

Many thanks Jon, I really appreciate having your thoughts. Funny fact - did you noticed that the context of your first Solenia card looks really like porn :D especially with the spaceship over it :D

Too many games come out for most to keep up which dilutes the perspective a games needs from a player. Too many players that come and go as their opinions on games matter the most as their voice is the mass majority; ultimately nudging the trajectory of options. Besides, every generation of gamers has been the cult of the new at some point. Look at the average age group from generations of board gaming, it’s weird. Even the history of it all. It has so many ups and downs that are never subtle. Like each previous time before, board gaming will have it highs and lows. I think this is currently needed. Board gaming as a whole is a hot mess. It needs to crash if it wants to evolve, man... The downfall, will keep what’s essential, kick out was weak, and kill what was clearly a bad idea... cough cough (heavily breathing now). 😬👍🏼... All in fun 🤪

Some channels are lucky, they get full copies of games before most backers. It’s understandable, it’s all business, but it does kind of stink when a channel is sent the base game and all its expansions and such. I know not all channels get to keep the game, but some do and that’s cool. One way I’ve noticed as to why some don’t like this is because in some cases the backers watch a review of a game they backed and realized they don’t like the game. Now they’re stuck waiting for a game they don’t like/want anymore lol. Hasn’t happened to me, but I’ve seen it happen to others and it’s kind of sad.
