Hello everybody! I hope you’re all well. :)
Today I bring you some impressions of Shalimar Millésime Iris (2023 release), a short comparison with the previous two from the Millésime line and also some impressions of Shalimar Ode à La Vanille & Sur la Route de Madagascar.

I've never been a fan of Shalimar from my first encounter with it in the early 1970s. Since I started really getting into perfume & expanding my collection during the pandemic I have revisited the OG as well as the Shalimar Philtre de Parfum flanker-- and both were still a no go for me. I should love Shalimar because on paper there isn't a note that I dislike. So determined to find a Shalimar for me, when I saw that Guerlain created Shalimar Millésime Iris, I decided to blind buy a bottle, because iris is one of my favorite notes of all & I've yet to find a fragrance that features iris that I haven't liked. AND I'm happy to say that I join you Sebastian, and that I do love Shamilar Millésime Iris too. I think it's perfectly balanced and to my taste and nose I don't find it too sweet. In a way it's odd because normally caramel IS a note that I haven't like much in other compositions but here I think it's beautiful. I'm glad that I didn't let it deter me. Thank you Sebastian for sharing your thoughts on it.

Oh how wonderful! This makes me happy! 🥰 I’ve worn it a few more times after doing this video trying hard to detect more of the caramel that is being talked about. It just doesn’t come strong on my skin, which I’m glad is the case since caramel is not a note I LOVE. I’ll be getting a couple more bottles for sure!

Like you, I am not a fan of Shalimar. I bought Millésime Iris because I love Iris. You review gives me hope that I will like it. I may have to give it a try.

Enjoyed your review of this, Sebastian. I'm really enjoying this fragrance because I like gourmand fragrances but I can understand why some lovers of the classic Shalimar might be disappointed.

I can totally understand as well. In our case, as fans too, we enjoy the way they’re “playing” with it. I find it so much fun getting to experience different takes on something I love while still having the one and only there as the main pillar. However, redundant flankers are just that. Redundant. 😂

I am a big fan of Sebastian. 😊 You love Guerlain and others perfumes like I do. I am thinking about Millessime Iris… and wanted watching what do you think about it.

I agree. The gourmand additions always seem to make perfumes sell better. Got to test this one just last week and it's probably my second fav millesime after tonka. Philtre de parfum still my fav flanker overall so those would be my top 3. But it's the sillage of Millesime Iris that I just adore. Sitting next to someone wearing it would be heavenly. 💜

Oh Philtre is just amazing 😍 I LOVE that one very much! I finished that bottle btw. 😅 My husband wears the Tonka Millésime a lot more than me, it’s soo amazing on him.

I got the Millesime Iris as soon as it became available in Europe, and I did have a bit of a weird journey with it. The day I got it, I opened the box and sprayed it on and all I got was the obnoxiously sweet synthetic note, and that was all my nose was capable of detecting. It was very unpleasant and didn't really change, however when I resprayed it a couple hours later I did get a slight hint of the iris underneath. I considered packing it away and maybe selling it in a year or two, even sniffing the box, all I could get was that sweet smell. Then after a few days I decided to give it a test again, and while the box still had that sweetness I couldn't escape, once I sprayed it on that note no longer dominated my nose, and I could smell more iris and even a base of the original Shalimar underneath. I've continued to wear it, and sort of go between it and the other Millesime versions, and I feel like it smells slightly different to me every time. I was honestly suspecting maybe it was the first time I was exposed to a certain note, and that's why I had such a strong reaction initially, but it went away later. It's also interesting to consider there may be some batch variation somehow. I actually sprayed it on about an hour before you uploaded this, and it really has continued to grow on me. Once you get your hands on your friend's sample, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I've gone from considering selling mine to considering buying a backup. It's great to hear your thoughts on both of these series, and as always I appreciate you sharing your fragrance impressions with us!

I loved reading all of it. 🥰 I can totally associate with what you mean by perhaps being exposed to a certain note for the first time and having a strong reaction to it. I’ve had that same thing happen to me multiple times and I’ve learned to understand that this is what’s going on and give it time before trying it out again. But there are those times when you know it’s just a bad blend and it’s not for you. It’s a fine line it seems sometimes. I’ll definitely be getting a backup of this! I really really love this edition and I’ll certainly be doing a video about the sample as soon as a I get it. 😁 Thank you!!

Thank you for another installment in the Shalimar saga, Sebastian! I'd love an update on the separate sample if you've received it. I'm super curious. I encountered it last week and loved what it did on my skin. I think the closest to Milliseme Iris is Shalimar Cologne EDT. I'm trying to decide whether I should keep the latter or sell it to streamline. Decision, Decisions!

I’m still waiting for the sample to arrive. :/ Hoping it arrives before the end of the year at least. Did you decide what to do with shalimar Cologne yet? :D I love that one too!
