Spiritual Unfoldment with John Butler

Spiritual Unfoldment with John Butler

Күн бұрын

In this impromptu chat, the second at Cliff College, John addresses:
differences between Eastern and Western Christianity
origins of 'The Jesus Prayer'
on Russia - "These people are my people"
in the real world there is no death
when present we are 'in love' and free from fear
why love affairs go wrong
in the real world there is only one time - eternity
pure and impure, divine and demonic
meditation is the practice of letting go attachment to our separate identity
we can never not be in Jesus
be determined for freedom
how to deal with thoughts
whatever you attend to expands and seems more real
practical exercise in the use of 'The Jesus Prayer'
Gracious thanks to our retreat guests - Berthram, Carlyn, Krish, Cate, Arthur, Jasmine, Tracey, Angie for allowing us to share these insights.
Did you know you can now listen to John on Spotify and other audio platforms? Here is his most popular recording 'Common sense guide to meditation' (1m views) - ffm.to/commons....

When I lost my son, somehow I was lead here! So comforting when he says nothing dies! I wish My son would have found peace on this earth in the comfort of knowing he was needed here, and had a comfortable place. I did hear my son say” I am okay now mom.”

@Shaq_K47 the teachings of Jesus are the same of those of the Vedas, of the Buddha, of the many great sages throughout the ages they point to the same thing,.. you have to see what sin really is what it is that veils you from the truth of who you really are. Its the mind or thought that separates you from God

Less of a frivolity, I would say it is a mark of (1) the cultural quality of his mother’s love - she was a Russian expat - which would form a foundational conditioning of his experience of all love, and (2) the spiritual experiences he had while traveling and living in Russia himself, his growing and deepening sense of Christ through the Eastern (orthodox) Christian tradition. It’s not much different from others who wax poetic about India because they gained so much from Hinduism. It is a human emotional connection to a concept, a set of experiences.

There’s a brilliant book regarding the Jesus Prayer called The Way of the Pilgrim. It’s a Russian book, focused on the travels of a Christian hermit who wants to achieve St Paul’s instruction to “pray endlessly”. I always found it a sort of Christian version of Hesse’s Siddhartha and both are truly beautiful books.

These people actually believe they can think their way to super intergalactic oneness. I'm just wondering what makes this guy some kind of expert. Where did he get all of his "widsom" from? He's not even recognized by any religious faction on the globe.

31 minutes. The virus of crowns. I am in bed, listening to your beautiful voice. 3 days with the cov, and it has been a spiritual retreat for me. Away from the others, in bed. No TV and the bustle of life. I have able to deepen my Jesus Prayer with my little komboskini bracelet. How ironic that the break I needed to spend on meditation and prayer and peace was through the worlds current bogie man. A bogie-bug. (There is always a bogie man. Society needs them to create fear.)

I wonder sometimes as a bass player of 19 years experience.. maybe playing music is a form of finding the present. I mean when I'm doing it I'm thinking of nothing else and I'm in the time of just grooving so to speak. It's the closest I have to relating to the meditation without knowing what it is really. I'm 34.. sometimes I have used the feet on the ground and feel your bodys presence on the earth and try find inner peace when there is some chaos in my mind. It does help. If I could see John in person I'd love to give him a great hug and have a small chat with him. What a legend

There are rare individual that have something happen mentally that transforms that person, a sense of calmness, peace, satisfaction, lack of ego and usually a sense of the spiritual. Most often the spiritual side aligns with their religious tradition but in a better way than the usual ministers, preachers, wise men. There is something genuine about it.

This man's wisdom is amazing ❤. He sums up here what I've always believed in my heart about the human experience & condition and our relationship with the Devine... - Ironically, similar to John I was born & raised American in the Roman Catholic faith by a faithful mother whose parents immigrated from Poland, but I am also of middle eastern Ukrainian Orthodox & Byzantine/Eastern Catholic heritage; & this man reminds me so much of the spiritual side of my deceased eldest brother - who was my brother who struggled so much with this human condition and the existence or non-existence of God. I wish I would have found this man before my brother passed, to share John's talks with him. BTW, 30:45 is so, so true.
