Surely, somebody has pointed out the reason Chicago is known as the 'Second City'? "Second City" originates as an insult from a series of articles in The New Yorker by A. J. Liebling, later combined into a book titled Chicago: The Second City (1952). In it, Liebling writes about his hatred for Chicago and contrasts it to his hometown New York City. That slavery fact isn't a fact at all. For one, 100,000 is nowhere near 10% of 12,000,000. Secondly there were far more than 12m slaves globally. Third, not even considering the entirety of America's slavery/slave trade period (1526-1866) just in 1860 there were a reported 4,000,000 slaves in the US which was an astounding 13% of the US population. There were about 30 million slaves worldwide and the US had 10,000,000 throughout the 300 years of slavery and the slave trade.
