Thanks sm! I really want to try out for competitive cheer-and I know I'm striving for level 4 (layout, standing tuck, and 1,2,&3 to backtuck) but I'm having so many issues with backhandsprings to tuck so hopefully this will improve them!

Does anybody have any tips for me? I just got into cheerleading and I've been a gymnast for a few years but I can't seem to make my backhandspring strong. I can't keep my legs straight and together. What should I do even after I've practiced???

Katherine Riley, a way to have your back handspring strong, is to practice a back arabian, or a back Iimber, while slowly inching your feet closer and closer each time you do one. It helped me a lot.

When I straighten my arms in my backhandspring it goes a bit backwards because my weight is pushing it down even though I'm 50 pounds

I have a hard time pulling my chest up. Even in my roundoffs my chest won't pull up at the end. How do I fix that? And how do I keep my arms from bending when I hit the ground? Also, my coach says my jump isn't powerful enough even though I feel like I'm jumping really hard, so are there drills for that?

Have you tried using a really thick mat or mattress? Or even a bed? Once you get it on there you can move onto thinner mats with spot and eventually on your own on floor😊

This helps me alot i just recently got mine & im weak so when i throw my back hand springs i always land on my head & my arm collapse, this helps i feel like half my reason is i throw my head back & other half is i dont get my arm fully to my head

Put something in between your legs when you do your back handsprings, it’s squeezes your legs together which naturally straightens them a little bit :)

well i have a really stupid problem, i am not afraid to jump back and i do it, but i dont go into straight line, it seems like when im in chair position ready to jump back and while swing my hands i turn my whole body like 25 degrees( in the mid of the full motion). it seems like i dont jump over my head but more likely over my right hand. anyways my both hands gets same pressure.. and i have done tons of standing back handsprings and i get really comfortable with it but still its crooked( its like as it got in my muscles as normal thing). also at first days when i just had learned back handspring i had them perfect but then after some time i felt on my head and injured my finger and then its all started and i cant fix it.. so meggin i need your advice shall i still keep on doing million of standing back handsprings or something different? also i want to mention that when i do back handspring wrong like i would fall on my head that crooked position prevents me to fall on my head i mean i just bend my that right hand and i hit the ground with very small damage.( anyways i have my bhs failed only once in my million back handsprings row(after a long time after my injury)) i have tried ur advices except the ones which needs a gym in this video, but when it comes to do it normal on the ground its wrong... and sorry for my english

Put a pony tail/hair tie around your legs and practice that then try again and squeeze your legs together a lot without the hair tie it should help !:)

Can you help me coach meggin? I've had a backhandspring for 6 years now and they are very bad. I my arms are always bent and I just don't understand why. I'm definitely strong enough and I try my hardest to straighten them but it never works. This is really frustrating because I can't start working on tucks or anything else. Someone please respond!

This is perfect! I need help on my back handspring I can't seem to snap my legs and so I land almost on my knees! If you could make a video on this that would be awesome!😊

hi Megan this is just a quick thank you , you have helped me through my gymnastics carer I started when I was nine I was a level 4 now I'm ten and I wish I had started way eirlier than I did but when I found your channel I bossted right up , I'm now a level 6 I'm so glad I found you to help without you I wouldn't be the person / mini gymnast I am today . xoxo xoxo

Bringing your chest up should help a little. Also engaging you core and landing with you feet slightly in front of you.

I've been trying for years, I feel as if I'm never going to get it and as if I let my team down because they need to make it easier for me:/

It's ok, I felt like that when first started gymnastics, I had had past experience but not a lot, I couldn't do a back walkover! But after about two years of hard work, sweat, blood, and tears, Im working on fulls!

But the thing is.. I have been doing gymnastics for a long while. I just can't get it, my team are learning fulls too and I can't even do a simple back flip/

***** My friend just got hers a few months ago after 4 years! Don't give up! I'm still working on mine after a year and a half almost 3 years. We're in the same boat.

***** and ***** I know how you feel! I've been trying to get my back handsprings off and on for a year and a half! I'm getting closer tho… and I'm not gonna give up! If we keep practicing consistently it's bound to happen sooner or later!

Glad I'm not the only one, I've been trying years to.. I've lost count. I've developed a fear I think after breaking my ankle in a round off!! I'm determined to get it.

Once when I was learning how to do a back handspring, I jumped up really high, freaked out, and face planted on the ground😂

My arms just bend no matter what I do 😭 Once I’m upside down they bend and it’s a stretch for them to be near my ears
