If you save a little money now, you are still not a millionaire. If you splurge now, you still didn’t go broke. But keep doing this over time, and you’ll see some real changes.
Almost half of all New Year’s resolutions are about personal finances. Only 16% of all New Year’s resolutions succeed, which means that many promises that we make ourselves about both finances and other important topics, are broken. That begs the question - Why is this so difficult? Why do people continue making promises to themselves that they cannot keep? And, perhaps most importantly, is there a way out of this infinite loop of disappointment? The answer to these questions lies within our habits.
---
Top 5 takeaways of Atomic Habits by James Clear:
00:00 Intro
01:02 1. The Aggregation of Marginal Gains
04:25 2. Systems VS Goals
07:22 3. The 4-Step Model of Habits
13:09 4. Rooting Your Habits in the Deepest Layers
14:56 5. 80% Exploit, 20% Explore

My goal with this channel is to help you make more money and improve your personal finances. How to become a millionaire? There are many ways to get there - investing in the stock market, becoming a stock trader, doing real estate investing, or why not becoming an entrepreneur? But whether you are interested in how to invest in stocks or investing strategies for creating passive income with rental properties - I hope to be able to provide you with a solution (or at least an idea) here. Warren Buffett - the greatest investor of our time - says that you should fill your mind with competing ideas and then see what makes sense to you. This channel is about filling your mind with those ideas. And in the process - upgrading your money-making toolbox.

It's funny that you mention quitting smoking by looking at your identity differently. I can personally vouch for this because that's how I quit smoking. Back in 2004 (April 14th, to be exact), I noticed that all the quit-smoking aids (gum, patches, lozenges, etc) all have a 3-month goal, where you scale down your use as you progress. At the end of those 3 months, according to the program, you get to say, "I'm a non-smoker," provided you were successful. I realized that on Day 1, I'm ALREADY a non-smoker! All I have to do then is decide each day to continue my streak so that I can keep saying that. I still used the nicotine gum and some Wrigley's spearmint, but that paradigm shift in my thinking changed everything. All the other times I tried to quit, but when my thinking changed, I succeeded. In 2024, I'll be 20 years nicotine-free. It really works! 👍

Good job kid, my cousin started investing in index ETFs when he was around the same age as you. He used to invest the amount he got as gifts and later from his part time jobs. 6-7 years down the line he has accumulated quite a bit. Don’t take unnecessary risks from what you see on the internet and stick to index funds

You are young and it good you are thinking about this, teach your friends and don't quit. However you are young, don't hold back on life, enjoy as much as you can, money is also a tool, not the only thing to look at. Knowledge and love, kindness and curiosity create our profound experiences and make your life worth it. And sometimes these cost money.

Two more advices to all of this from someone who started transformation kinda based on the book a couple of years ago: 1. Do not tend to think change is easy. Admit that its a challenge. 2. Try not to rush and be patient/learn to be patient. This is key!

I'm 18, saving 1500$/70% of my paycheck every month. Living Home and driving a small cheap diesel van. If I'm om schedule I'm buying a house w/ rental before i turn 20 years old. 1000$ tax free every month will pay off the electricity, internet and mortgage interest... Making the house basically free, adding on to the value going up.

I have read like 2 books during my one month holiday, namely science of happily ever after and seven principles of making marriage works and I am not sure how to read so much if I had to include studying and working time(in the future). I have also read book summaries to make my life easier.

Cheers! I read the books on my phone (Kindle app) so that I can retreat to them whenever there's downtime and I feel I have the energy for it. Hey Partido Liberal, thanks a ton for the support! I have to admit that I do not consider banks to be within my circle of competence at this moment. Nice videos, I'm a new subscriber. The key points of the book are well summarized. The aggregation of marginal gains (#1) is such a fallacy though. Just think about it... it is impossible to have a compounding 1% return on a habit forever. There are always diminishing marginal returns to an action. You will make the easiest 1% change first and then it will become harder and harder to keep finding the extra 1%. Temper your expectations people.

Is it though? Say you invest 100 bucks a month now. With this theory, improve next month to 101 bucks, month after that 102,1 etc. How can you keep this up at 200 bucks, 300 bucks etc? Should you take on a side hustle, ask for a raise, cancel your cable subscription? I find it a refreshing way of thinking
@markhnatiuk7857
@markhnatiuk7857 Жыл бұрын
@@LisetteZ3 I don't understand your point. You are cherry picking some nice numbers. Say you make a very good living and you invest 10000 bucks a week now keep increasing by 1 percent per week. In 10 years you will need to invest 1770000. You went from 520000 per year invested to 92 million per year invested. Maybe you should start a side hustle?!?
@LisetteZ3
@LisetteZ3 Жыл бұрын
@@markhnatiuk7857 am I the only one cherrypicking? Do you actually invest 10.000 per week or beneath 1000 per month. If the latter, I think it would be more beneficial to you to think about how you can improve 1% per month, even if you don’t let it compound. The mind makes you think more easily how to improve 1 percent than 10% or even 100%. If you want to think about it in a mathematical way, you are totally right. But if you want to think of it in a psychological and practical way, this advise is brilliant to get you moving in the right direction
@LisetteZ3
@LisetteZ3 Жыл бұрын
By not making it compound, I mean, if you currently invest 1000 bucks a month, try to add 10 bucks a month and keep it at 10 extra bucks every month. A year from now you will invest 1120 a month which is a lot better than doing nothing and keeping it at 1000

@cassioinvestimentos6261 Жыл бұрын
@@markhnatiuk7857 Yeah, because when it comes to beginner investors, everybody starts with $10000 a week. What a great example. Anyone can use dumb examples like that: Starting investing with $1 every day, and increase by 1% every day. By the end of the first year you will be investing ~$37 per day, by the end of the second year you'll be investing ~$1400 *every day*. Make compounding interest work for you, not against you

Last year I checked how much I spent for cold drinks and burgers it blasting 3600$ . So I cut those expenses and invested that money in different beverages companies. So people keep drinking beverages and give me profit 😎.

That could be a dangerous idea if you don't know how to handle that money from your mortgage well. Think of it a several times first.
