I’m in the same boat I’m half PR never been around my family. So I never learned the language but always wanted to learn. I’m so glad I’m not alone people always say. Why you don’t speak Spanish. Two great podcasts to hear very informal convo between puerto ricans are: all on spotify "Alzando la voz" (women) "Los Del Colegio" (men about sports) "Economía con Calle" is also good if you like politics. You will hear them cutting the entire front "scribir" instead of "escribir", spanglish, and so on. All your tips are very helpful bro and have helped me start understanding. Thanks!

The Puerto Rican and Dominican accents have a very distinct cadence where it ends sentences by elongating the pronunciation of the last word and then usually shortening it the next sentence and repeating back and forth honestly reminds me of how Brazilian Portuguese sounds

These are just the type of videos I have been looking for all along. I am a gringo, but I have been speaking Spanish most of my life in my job and learned a lot from friends in the past. But I always wanted to improve my comprehension of real Puerto Rican Spanish especially when they speak fast. I am a stickler for perfecting my accent sounding like a native speaker. I already get asked what country I am from and impress the native speakers from different countries. Please keep these videos coming! I look forward to them. When it comes to intonation, is there specific places or words in a sentence where it's appropriate and not appropriate? How do you know when to use the intonation and not to?

So my mom speaks a neutral Puerto Rican accent and actually I think it’s really endearing and easy to understand, no more than like castillian. Im trying to inherit it but she’s lost a lot of the fluency… is there a Puerto Rican equivalent to the expression “bear with me”? Mi español es muy malo ahora pero solamente necesito el tiempo y todo está bien, but i need a way to express this until I get there.

A quick question at around 5:10 your friend says 'gente comprando piraguas' and you translate 'piraguas' as 'canoes'; I thought piraguas is a common street food in PR? The main difference is the intonation/rhythm/tone. Take notice of where they pause, where they raise their voice, where they raise/lower pitch in the sentence(s). Sincerely, another 🇵🇷 🇩🇴 who used to sound dominican.
