@@11jerans I've always imagined that rather than one rocket motor propelling the round from the rear, it's 3 - 4 slightly offset rockets that spin the round around its center axis while pushing it down range. My problem has always been why a supposedly .65 caliber gun looks like it's at least 40mm on the model. And then I start wondering how the heck somebody reloads the main gun in a Leman Russ and things start to spiral downward from there. Mostly, I think you're just not supposed to think about it that much.
@AgnumMD3 жыл бұрын
@@11jerans I know very little about 40k, but I assume they stabilize in a similar way to the Gyrojet (check out Gun Jesus' or Taofledermaus' videos on it if you haven't seen them). In my youth I was in New York, Manhattan and saw actual zip guns that were used to shoot at each other that make this stuff look like HK's. Standard was tear an antenna of a car, break it off at the sliding section that fits the .22 or .25 round that you bought cheap. Wooden handle, which means a scrap of wood from a construction site. Black electricians tape, the old stuff with fabric backing. Rubber band to power the nail to fire it. takes about thirty seconds to load, a couple seconds to fire, usually by pulling back on the rubber band by hand. Best are big rubber bands used in offices, you find them on the street. You can make it in a half hour shoot it, and drop it in a trash can as you walk away. The bullets keyhole which makes even a .22 long decent at three feet, since you don't have to kill them, just take them out of the fight. or just use it to threaten with. Fortunately I got the hell out of there.

You'd be surprised what you can do with blowback... 20mm Oerlikon anti-air cannon was straight blowback, as was the 20mm MG-FF cannon used by early German fighters. Even the later MK 108 was blowback, though it set of the primer while the bolt was still moving forward to take advantage of the inertia of the moving bolt.
@thesmallestminorityisthein40453 жыл бұрын
Any caliber can be blow back, only question is: how heavy does the bolt need to be? Because a .30-06 needs something like a 26 pound bolt to be safe.

These were made for and used by Loyalist paramilitaries, not PIRA (PIRA had better sources for proper guns; the most commonly encountered PIRA weapons in the 70s were M1 carbines and .380 Remington Woodmaster hunting rifles). The improvised SMGs used stolen Sterling mags (you can even see that the mag well on this one is obviously shaped to take a Sterling mag) and would fire just about long enough for spraying a bar-room or carrying out a targeted assassination/murder.

The one gun that is shown in the thumbnail to the right almost looks like a Bolter Pistol from Warhammer 40K. Btw I wouldn't mind seeing Brandon and his guys try making a Bolter Rifle. Tho scaled down so it doesn't dislocate your shoulder after 1 or 2 shots, cause it fires a .998 or 75 Cal.
@codyopperman59303 жыл бұрын
The .998 is the heavy bolter. The 75 cal is the standard astartes bolter. The more you know.
@Bl4ckD0g3 жыл бұрын
A Bolter rifle would be hard, seeing as they have more in common with the Gyrojet gun than a typical firearm. The closest we'll ever see to a Bolter is an automatic grenade launcher, and those only come in 40mm. Even then they aren't rocket powered.
@andrewmattox12333 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty just it is .75 Cal. The decimal is important, as in 3/4ths of an inch. .5 Cal, is 1/2 an inch. To put this in perspective: 12 gauge shotgun -> .729 Cal. 10 gauge shotgun -> .775 Cal. The standard bolter (in terms of diameter, would be about an 11-ish gauge shotgun. That shoots a rocket assisted explosive slug. Though at this point, people may have started dropping the leading decimal. So idk.
