Exactly, Tatum has been way below league average on pull up jumpers yet he keeps taking them, little too much of that mamba mentality? Hopefully this series showed him how much more efficient and dangerous he is if he drives the ball. On the other hand, he still took 38 threes this finals at 26%...
@Aceharrow6 ай бұрын
Straight up…. I was screaming at the tv for 4 games to drive the ball instead of settling for stupid shots! It was great seeing him go off to close it out!
@J-Hue6 ай бұрын
His over-driving actually resulted in a lot of bad, contested layups. The best shot available in tough defensive matchups is usually the midrange jumper. His near refusal to take that shot is why he shoots so poorly in the Finals.
@BigMikasuki6 ай бұрын
Tatum put on a masterclass on how to get off the ball and find your teammates. When he was in his passing mode it was quick decisions and unselfishness and I know it surprised Dallas.

I was completely baffled by Dallas' gameplan last night. In game 4 they were sitting their bigs in the paint, and just bombing away bc they were so confident they had the rebounding advantage - and they were right. Last night, a hobbled KP got in the game and Dallas seemed completely fixated on running at him, abandoning everything they had been doing well. And the drop off in defensive intensity when they werent getting that sweet whistle they'd enjoyed the entire series was wild. Kudos to Luka, he really looked like he was working out there, but mostly alone. Kid desperately needs to work on his fitness. How does he expect to go a whole series against the Boston Celtics, a team that does nothing but change diapers, work on basketball, and get to bed early?
@prod.snqwfall13476 ай бұрын
That’s such a fascinating description of the Celtics. It’s a team of adults who’ve gotten over themselves. They don’t ONLY care about basketball, but when they’re playing basketball, ALL they care about is winning.
@Ironfangzu6 ай бұрын
If you noticed, the Mavs were hitting at something like a miserable 28% rate from 3, so the bombs away tactic of Game 4 just couldn't work for them. In the end it really wasn't a game plan thing. Let's face it, ALL the Celtics can shoot. They can all defend. For the Mavs, Luka and Kyrie could score, but their defense is mediocre. Lively and Gafford could protect the rim, but Lively got eaten up by Tatum when he drove (too quick for Lively), and pretty much all Mavs not named Luka or Kyrie couldn't generate their own open shots. The Celtics have at least 4 guys in Tatum, Brown, White and Holiday, who could easily beat most Mav defenders off the dribble. Mavs were a flawed team with 1 superstar, and then an All Star, going up against a much more complete team with talent everywhere. Celts would have won a 7 game series, a 9 game series, or a 21 game series. They were just a more consistent and talented team. What happened in Game 4? The Mavs played like their lives were on the line, and the Celts eased up on the gas pedal whether they admit it or not. These two teams are not that close.
@akllls6176 ай бұрын
Celtics made them switch their plans up it wasn’t that they weren’t sitting their bigs in the paint it was that the Celtics movement stopped them from doing that .. there’s a couple break downs in a different channel that’s makes it clear what happened and how the Celtics stretched Dallas bigs on the court

The reason they put Irving/Doncic on the weak side corner (something they often do and that was emphasized since Game 2) was to avoid low help coming from the corner like Jrue did at min 6:50. The Cs wanted to close the lob threat by sealing Lively/Gafford and sending help from the weak side corner (Horford was the most reluctant to do it since he is too slow to recover on the corner, even though they could switch with the defender on the center). Of course Cs responded to this tactic by helping more from the nail, but helping from the nail is something Luka/irving can easily read and they can respond by going on the empty side (away from the nail) or by picking up the dribble early and have access to the lane (remember the low help never came from the center defender). I think the MAVS space was following this process: 1) if the pick&roll was on the right side, then you empty that side (even though since Game 3 they were putting someone on that side too so to have less defenders on the other side) and targeting Horford/Proz (Cs wanted Doncic to go right, so they emptied that side) and Irving had to be on the opposite corner (in this case the nail help is useless i Doncic is going towards the sideline); 2) if the pick&roll was on the left side then MAVS needed Irving on the wing (2 gap 90 degrees to stretch the floor) to create a driving lane. This of course was one of the many tactics during this Finals (of course this is my personal perspective).

What most people don't understand is that it was obvious to all the analysts at ESPN that Boston was going to dominate the playoffs. So they came on TV telling viewers that Boston was suspect, their competition was weak, Dallas was unstoppable and had the best backcourt in history. Thats how 89% of all bets placed on ESPNbet prior to the Finals were for Dallas to win, even though Boston was a heavy favorite according to Vegas. ESPN made a fortune trolling y'all and most of America fell for it, hook line and sinker. And most of that 89% are the "I do my own research" crowd. 😂

Love your content man. With that defense C's can Win at least 2 more. White, Jrue and 53 yo Horford are exceptionnal and too precious to these 2 stars. Jrue had so many off. Rebond and big shot in this series. Big lost for the Bucks Fr. But the real problem in this series is Jason Kidd. He had no solution whatsoever. I don't understand the switch everything strategy and these rotation and timeout where terrible in my opinion. As a Celtics Hater, I think it's going to be really tough for me in the next years to come. Happy for Horford though and I bet on Them to Win at the begining of the season because it was to obvious. I hope I lose that bet next year!😂

So before the finals started it was " Celtics haven't played anybody, they haven't been tested, Kyrie and Luka are the best backcourt ever ( after being a 5 seed and winning nothing) " majority of media picked Dallas and after Celtics handled them now they're a "superteam" have 5 all stars , blah blah blah. Tatum and brown are all stars but horford hasn't made an all star game in like 14 years and was literally sitting at home before Celtics traded kemba and got horford back. Holiday has made 2 all star games TEN years apart and made his 2nd a few years ago because Middletown was hurt and bucks were still a top 2 seed. Porzingas has been traded away 4 times? And white was on the spurs with arguably the best coach in the NBA in Greg popovich and he didn't see the potential I guess cause they traded him away. The Celtics won because everyone put team and winning first and once brown got snubbed for all NBA and all defensive teams man was on a mission and literally had Luka gassed and walking up and down the court in the 3rd quarter of game 5. Tatum played good all around but not exactly up to his standards. Monkeys off their back everyone's back next year and should only get better.
