IMS vs E&B superfine filter basket. | Can I taste the difference?

Hi Jack, this is the most respectful review about baskets. What bothers me is that I can tell the others would be swearing that those basket elevated and improved the shots even before I finished the rest of their reviews. I know it is subjective and inconclusive so you did not admit there is no noticeable benefit haha. Thanks again.

Brilliant as ever Jack! I remember both the Flair 58 stock basket and the IMS one being almost interchangeable but then moving to VST finding really significant improvement… I was hoping you might try the Weber unifilter but that really is expensive (I guess that was what you meant when you talked about costing £300- it does seem to offer something different though)

Thank you! My favourite so far is Decent basket but we have a new contender. Next video I will show you my first try of Wafo basket. Together with postage and duty tax I paid only £270!!! I would love to test Unibasket but can’t keep spending like that. We will see. I would need to get like 25k views to pay for that investment.

Great video man! Ive been contemplating upgrading my flair 58 basket, but i get great results from the stock basket i figured why bother for now lol for the blind test you should get a cheap lazy Susan and just spin them around they’re pretty cheap and will help prevent haters saying you’re being biased lol

The main problem with blind tasting is that I can detect the difference in temperature between those samples. Ideally I would have 2 group heads and pull shots at the same time. Still, that blind tasting was an eye opening experience 😛

Hi Jack, great video! Is there any basket you could recommend for dark roasts? I already tested one of these ultra high precision baskets (Ikape spiral) but I actually liked the stock basket from Bezzera more. Is it possible, that a large area of holes is better for light and speciality roasts and a small area and less holes better for dark roasts and crema (less bitterness will be extracted)? What do you think

Thx for watching. I don’t really drink dark roast so just speculate here but I would not recommend super high extraction basket. Some companies like Wafo have dedicated baskets for darker roasts but simple IMS or E&B superfine should do.

Hi, I put 5kg of cheap coffee through them. Now they are by far my favourite burrs for pour overs but haven’t tried them for espresso yet.

I noticed that a normal 50.8/51mm tamper doesn't fit/press well the powder in my IMS 51mm basket. Anyone with the same problem? It just press on the surface, while the bottom coffee remain not pressed.

I have 51 mm IMS on La Pavoni and use Normcore tamper that does the job well.

@@mycoffeeshow111 but the fact is that the tamper doesn't go lower because of the basket shape which decreases in diameter, I guess around 40-45mm, so I think I need a tamper with that diameter in order to press also at the bottom. I don't know if I explained well 🤔

I agree with your conclusion cause with my ex 58mm machine i used to try every basket i have with some coffees Ims competition 26.5 VST 18gr La Marzocco 17gr Gaggia double 14gr Rancilio double 103 All the same, if i had difference is caused by the not 100% same extraction time Especially the cost of the vst and especially the cost of the new wafo baskets(200€) makes me laugh Totally waste of money

Last time we did vst vs ims vs Pullman vs Decent basket and surprisingly I liked the Decent the most but I haven’t done blind tasting. Next week you will see Decent vs Wafo.
