Also the fact that the black characters were either the black best friend or background characters was annoying and yes I was not happy about the LGBTQ+ characters being the villains but yeah...I have a big thing about diversity lol. I think as far as the acting it was fine, I've seen the actress that played Bloom in other things and she was good, I'm sure everyone else is good too, it's just that there are 40 year old men writing teenagers and thinking we sound ways that we don't sound. To be honest I thought the show was a bit confusing at the beginning and then didn't start building till like later...the finale was good though. Great review! I will definitely be subscribing!

I personally think so many characters need apologies from the writers of this show. Firstly, Musa. Not only did they whitewash her, but all she can do is feel people’s emotions. AND SHE DOESNT EVEN WANT TO! She can literally take peoples pain away, but she has to transfer it to herself ?? Hell no, her power is a weakness and that’s why she has to learn hand to hand combat like a normie. Aisha I’m gonna apologize for you being the supportive black friend with no backstory of your own. Every character got character exploration, whether it be familial relationships, love interests, conflicts, etc. but what did you get? Villainized for going to get help from an adult when your friend clearly needed it, ignored by the cast AND writers, bad CGI moments, and undervalued when you were easily a fan favorite. All you got to do was put out fires smh. Someone find her a new team Terra got fat shamed how many times and not a soul stood up for her ?? Really?? She almost killed a man (which literally would’ve prevented everything else from happening.. keep walking y’all) but nooo, everyone had to convince her to stop. And lastly too in conclusion finally, Dane is TOO fine and his villain arc was so realistic for shy queer kids getting enticed by quirky divisive girls and cute (debatable) boys that sway them to do things they’re uncomfortable with!,,, I felt that.. I hope Terra is able to bring him back quick fast and in a hurry because I really want to root for him. Ok that’s all, everyone else can suffer

So here are my problems with the show. 1. It didn't feel like another planet or realm. Why was there Instagram and social media like here? Why did they have to have homophobia, sexism or fat phobia on this show? Why couldn't it have been such a different place than where Bloom comes from? It would have been very cool not to see those things. It would have been cool to see gay people and a bigger girl living there best lives and getting treated decently. I just felt not having these elements would have made it seem to Bloom that she was somewhere very different. There was no big indications to me that they were outside of Earth. Correct me if I am wrong because I didn't finish it. Couldn't finish it. 2. Characters. They did not have to replace Flora with Tera. They could have simply kept Flora and also put Techna in there and added Tera. Why couldn't they do that? And again. They could have done so much for body positive representation by not having Tera face Fatphobia. That route is predictable. What the hell did they do with Musa's powers? Why did they make Stella the stereotypical mean blonde girl? Why was Bloom so unlikable? Why did they reduce Aisha as a character? Aisha was too awesome to be reduced like this. There was also no chemistry between Bloom and Sky. And from what I remember in the cartoons. That's kind of a big deal. They didn't get the personalities right at all. 3. The Fashion. The clothing on this show could have been so much better considering that the girls loved their fashion. 4. The mood. Not everything has to be dark and moody. They could have easily kept the same light hearted atmosphere (with some dark stuff there at times) and still made it more realistic for live action. I won't be back for season 2. I tried to like it but had to admit to myself that I didn't.

Aisha is the original show was the fairy of waves. Not water. Her powers were expanded to not just water but all fluids. There was this particular substance called Morphix that she could control. She could morph it into basically any object and use it in any way possible. But of course this show had to limit it to just water. Because apparently we haven’t seen that done a thousand times already. Also they excluded Tecna! She had the best powers out of all the Winx! She was the fairy of technology. Like imagine being able to control all artificial intelligence. There’s so many things you could do with that. Plus it’s original. There aren’t many shows where someone has the power of technology. But of course they had to leave her out.

This show looks good on it’s own. They didn’t have to include the name Winx cause that is not Winx. The Winx Club was supposed to be about empowerment and friendship. The live action is nothing like the original show. The original version had different ethnicities and different types of personalities that came together. The live version makes most of the characters so bitchy and unlikable without any redemption. In my opinion, they should have ditched the ‘Winx’ name and should have turned it into a new show.

As a Latina, I honestly don't bother that Terra was white, this is because in the industry you have a typical image of how a Latino person looks in appearance. There are so many white, Asian, black, brown, etc. people who come from Latin America. So as for appearance, I didn't have any personal problems, what if it seemed to me half "what-?" was that if I was going to be a new Latino character, they could have chosen a (regardless of appearance) Spanish-speaking actress. For me, the nice thing about having characters from different parts of the world, is that you can show their culture, religion, customs, language, etc. That's what I didn't like. Just in case, to clarify, I'm not white, I'm Peruvian of Afro and Chinese descent. I say this because when I usually comment on social networks they usually assume that I am white and that I have no right to express an opinion in these cases 😐

[ RANT ] I personally hated Tara's character. They did her so dirty. I watched this when it came out so its not fresh in my mind but what i remember about her was that she was the stereotypical " plus size character". (this is a problem in all of media in general but very apparent in this show). She's sweet and kind, bullied by people throughout the beginning of the show, and also has that moment ( i think the first episode ) where she's really aggressive. I'm all for plus size representation in movies and TV but having every plus sized characters problems stem from the fact that their plus sized is part of the problem. It creates a narrative that is acceptable to be a jerk to someone because of their body. I have never once seen a show or movie where the plus sized character was the main character and desirable and wasn't judged based on their appearance. I am in desparate need of a movie or show where there is a plus sized girl doesn't face problems because of their weight. just let them exist and be seen as equals. (and i just want to make clear that Its definitely important to make others aware of the negative affects of bullying, its been done 1000 times but it is something i think has been well represented especially in the past decade)
@a.d.w83853 жыл бұрын
Girl. Yes. My memory is not fresh of the show either. But with Tera I also felt it was a missed opportunity from the writers. Bloom was on a different planet or realm. So why did fatphobia have to exist there. This show had a perfect opportunity to just portray a bigger girl as a desirable equal with problems not related to her weight because the society or world she was in didn't care about that. This could of also been a small contrast to what Earth is like, and Bloom could have noticed that. But instead, these people from another world were also effected by Earth-like patriarchal standards of beauty too, huh? Just a big missed opportunity. Just to have this actress play a role that's been done many times.

Musa is LITERALLY ASIAN and a MUSIC/SOUND Fairy NOT an Empath/Mind Reader. Let’s not try to say this is some sort of spinoff of Winx Club Netflix!!!
@anaistshiunza34863 жыл бұрын
I am 100% sure that they make Musa a mind fairy because in the cartoons show or in one of the films I don’t remember well tbh.. Musa said that she could hear people « melody» and everyone have their own. This melody was actually people thoughts, moods, emotions, feelings etc. so they decided to snap out whole the thing about her power connected to music and sound (for me Musa is more than just a basic music fairy but more like a sound fairy) to make her a mind fairy that won’t read people’s mind and secluded/distancing herself by putting her headphones on and listening to music. Plus they completely erased the genius-like artist she is, she was so talented in singing, playing guitar and others instruments and writing music. Like she was so talented that she might be a genius and she maybe have a good hear. This adding to the fact that she is a great friend and lost her mother at a young age. I mean they had material to make her a great character in the live action

@imuRgency i think she's called a changeling in reference to a European myth that started in the Middle Ages. Parents (most of the time who had postpartum depression or whose babies had sicknesses or deformities that couldn't be explained) believed that their child had been kidnapped and swapped out with a fairy baby (aka a changeling). The parents would leave these babies out of their houses overnight to be "taken back," effectively killing the child. In the meantime, they thought that their child had been taken either to serve the fairies, to offer fairies the love of a human child, or to cause pain to the human family as an act of revenge of violence. Since Bloom is a fairy dropped in the human world, we can guess that she's a changeling who wasn't abandoned by her new human parents, or that when she was abandoned she was put into foster card/ adoption instead of taken back to the fairy world

i think u should check out kipo and the age of wonderbeasts!! its an animated show on netflix with an extremely well-written story, amazing character development, a lot of really good rep (all three human main characters are black and/or mixed and one of the main characters is openly gay and there's also a nonbinary character of color) and a really good soundtrack!! it's about a post-apocalyptic world set 200 years in the future where the humans live under the surface bc the animals went through mutations and took over the surface, but the main character gets on the surface during an accident and has to find her way home, and during her journey she explores the surface w her new friends. (but if u prefer live action shows instead of animated ones then i'd also really like to hear ur thoughts about i am not okay with this)

THANK YOU for talking about how annoying Bloom was. She had the most basic personality and was pretty selfish because she would find a way to make everything about herself and would get everyone in trouble but then play the victim. That “i’m not like other girls” vibe is just so outdated and makes shows painful to watch.

Something about a stubborn redhead lead makes me like the show significantly less And yes this opinion is based off shadow hunters

I was quite upset that Tecna from the original cartoon was no where to be found like literally non existent but other than that the show was really good and has lots of potential for future seasons

I think that them as students and kids shouldn’t know some things. That’s what the adults are there for, to take care of them and fix the problems. But my issue with the show was that they were trying to make 16 year olds like adults.

far be it for me to defend anything in the WINX saga, but changeling is actually a fairly classic term within fairy mythos for children who are swapped. Been around for ages, however uncomfy it may be. It was somewhat negative, essentially this fear that the fairies would steal away your child and replace them with one of their own, subtly ruining your life and creating a being who just never seemed quite *right*.
@hayleysunsx75573 жыл бұрын
This show actually would’ve been good if it had nothing to do with the winx, it’s bad because they tried to do a live action of a show that is fantastic and hard to do justice and if they changed the names of the characters too we wouldn’t care about race bccs there’s no previous characters to compare them to🙄🙄Netflix did the Winx Club dirty

I would rewatch the cartoon, the thing made for children a million times before rewatching that That might be a bit extreme but that show was nothing like winx which was my childhood and i am angry at a lot of things in the show like aisha was such a badass she came in the cartoon running from a dark dude thing and saving many fairies and like just amazinf and musa they did musa so bad and stella was amazing and she s just a stereotype they really just made all the girls stereotypes when they werent and ughh i am angry now

I’m black and hate the fact there’s so much whitewashing. Netflix thought they did something by replacing the indigenous Latina character with a white plus sized woman. There’s indigenous Latina plus size actors that could’ve taken that place??? And they whitewashed the East Asian character. The plot itself is terrible and is just another stereotypical edgy teen drama to feed people who have mush as brains, and the fashion makes them look like forty year old soccer moms. A show doesn’t have to be dark and edgy to be good, Netflix just demonizes the femininity the show already represented along with diversity. And then they add unnecessary swearing, sex scenes, and social problems in a show about fairies as if it didn’t have problems that would’ve been interesting to film

HECK NOOOO, this is an abomination compared to the original 1st- Stella (while she does have her moments) is actually very down to earth and she was friends with bloom. In the original I found her to be a funny, mostly relatable character 2nd- Why did they make Musa a mind fairy? That’s so weird and the fact that they whitewashed her isn’t cool 3rd- I miss Tecna…she’s so underrated and I’m sad she wasn’t here 4th- POOR AISHA!! Like what is it with Netflix putting black people on the back burner??

I almost gave this show a watch (although I felt it could have been livelier), but finding out the only (from what I've heard) gay (not sure if there are other identities covered) characters are villains was unsettling to me. I'm straight and from where I'm standing, it does play off fears and feelings we have about gay and similar people when they are only villains. I feel like this happens a lot more with guy characters, while women and girls can be good, have been written as creepy, and can even be bad, but they get called out (unless they are only creepy sometimes). Men almost get a free pass and it's treated like someone is homophobic if they call out the story. I think some of it might have to do with some women and girls being very active in fandoms and open about being turned on by seeing two guys together, so any two guys work (and they have a right to have their feelings, like we all do for whatever we like, but this is media and it influences stuff) and it also might be also a gay or similar version of "boys will be boys" felt by some women and girls who watch and also some guys. It also gets really weird to me when all the good characters in something are squeaky clean straight people compared to the gay villain. I want to watch stories where it's less disturbing and there are good shows and movies out there, but I still see this way too much. I pretty much drop shows, books, movies, etc. when it does.

Everytime Bloom spoke she was giving elena gilbert. also i hate how aiesha was just trying to help her new roomie feel comfy in a new world and school and all bloom did was push her away as if aieshas help didnt help her a bunch of times. like she really just assumes everyones out to get her, shes at that school to control her powers but once someone tries to help her w that control she becomes a brat and resorts back to stella, someone who hates her over the blandest mf in that school or the stupid notebook. im only on ep 4 but she seems like it aint getting better from here tbh...

The word changeling has its roots in Shakespeare’s midsummers night dream. So I feel like the show runners were trying to give an illusion to that. But I do totally understand how that word would make you uncomfortable.

A changeling is a fairy that has replaced a human child. It’s something that has been in mythology for centuries.

im like you :D I enjoyed the show, but there were just some aspects that I just could not ... I felt like the last episode just threw around so many plot twists and surprise reveals that it just made everything so rushed and forced. *spoilers below* For example, episode 6 - the big reveal that Sky's dad is actually alive :0 it felt so underwhelming because we were literally just told 20 minutes before that Sky's dad was killed by Silva? We also learn why Musa is too afraid to heal Sam - it's because she felt her mother die the year before. We hear *another* damn version of what actually happened at Aster Dell. I'm pretty sure there's more, but this one episode kind of brought the show down. It gave us too much at once - but I guess it doesn't stop me from keeping an eye out for S2 lol.

The cartoon purposely had their fairies different ethnicities. Miss came from an Asian culture and they based her on Asian actresses. Flora was the same. Aisha is legit the most badass. She saved her entire planet and gave up her sight to do it. She’s the first fairy to earn her enchantix transformation *BIG DEAL*. The problem was this show took something that was soo dear to a lot of girls. They took the name and then destroyed it in the name of “teen drama”
