The major facepalms I had while watching: - Roger's relationship with his wife shouldn't be fine if he decided to go for a 10y mission into space... then finally choosing to play with his balls instead of returning to her... (maybe it's the prequel of Spaceballs: How Roger went crazy during his 50ys long game and became Lord Helmet😂) - No way Nasa sends sy alone to space. It's simply dumb and risky 🤪 - The best way to examine a mysterious alien ball is to touch it bare handed 🤪 - No way Nasa sends disturbing messages to a lonely astronaut - especially stuff like "your wife is in a nervous breakdown". 🙄

To that last point, I always thought it was odd that any movie with cryosleep tends to also feature waking up to tons of messages as well. If NASA knows you wont wake up until a set time, you'd figure they would just combine all the messages into a single package. You'd have one email of essential info with a lot of attachments from others.

@katocs10 ай бұрын
Why, it only ever needs accelerate briefly and then just drift, no?
@lars670610 ай бұрын
@@katocs No it's a bit more complicated than that. Everything works in orbits, that means you need to provide the energy required to heighten your orbit around the sun to around Saturn level. then to Neptune level, then to whatever dwarf planet they are talking about. After arriving you need to slow down, to circularize your orbit around the respective moon or planet, otherwise you will just fly past it in ridiculous speed. if you have a spaceship in low earth orbit and accelerate it briefly, it will do almost nothing. It will still stay in around the same orbital height.
@DavidKnowles010 ай бұрын
@@lars6706 You can of cause use gravity assist to do this without the use of fuel.
@Jebu9118 ай бұрын
@@DavidKnowles0 I mean you need to make a stable orbit around the planet before you can land anything there at least with current technology if you are planning to bring that shit back up. So to leave the orbit you would need more fuel again.

So he acquires the first physical artifacts of an alien civilization and then proceeds to go further away from Earth? After the 1st orb, I thought he would go back to Earth, but no, they sent one ship with one man to secure all 3. What utter bs. Such a cheap way to add drama.
@deathstrikeАй бұрын
It stands to reason that the transmitters he has discovered perhaps themselves contain a microscopic black hole whose intense gravity might allow signals to exceed the speed of light. So I wonder? Could these "transmitters" be coupled to the Magellan's drive system to perhaps speed up his transit to the Oort Cloud? They might not be able to send the ship to FTL, but if they cut his travel time from 32 years to perhaps 3 or 4, it might be worth exploring. And in time, he might be able to "ask" if there is a method of making his ship even faster and more durable. They made the invitation, so why not at least instruct him on how to get a faster Uber?
