But the fact still remains, there are native Japanese whose families immigrated to Japan. While they appear foreign, they are natives who speak the Japanese and deeply respect the nation and its culture. If this woman was crowned, the judges observation of her was for her Japanese roots. Japan is beautiful but so few realize or acknowledge just how diverse the nation is. Thanks to social media, we are learning of more biracial Japanese and descendants of immigrants who are born and raised. Despite what happened, she handled stepping down honorably and that speaks volumes beyond any title. Regardless, she is opening doors for those born and raised in Japan with multiracial lineage and immigration history.

I agree about her losing/giving up the title, but I have a comment regarding the race and politics questions. She moved to Japan when she was 5 and her mother married a Japanese man. Yeah I’m not really for beauty pageants but from what I’ve seen she grew up and did all her schooling in Japan, doesn’t even speak Ukrainian anymore, and naturalized as a Japanese citizen so she was totally eligible to compete. At this point I don’t think someone like her could call anywhere else “home,” a situation lots of other immigrants, third-culture kids, etc. find themselves in. I live in Japan and whether people like or not, the birthrate is diving and there are more and more immigrants and mixed-race kids growing up here. Arguments like “not Japanese enough for XYZ” aren’t going to stay sustainable 🤷

@@I.am.hookedso i guess it would be disrespectful to Caucasian women too if a black woman wins European pageantry no?
@I.am.hooked8 ай бұрын
@@hausofluzon I see you a comparing the politics of the west to the east. In the west due to mass migration and slavery, (since you are talking about black people specifically), you will see a lot of mixed blood people black people, African french, German swiss, and African Americans of course. They have lived there for generations, so they have eventually become what you would expect when you think of a country in the West. You wouldn't expect to only see white people. Now in the east there isn't mass migration that causes the population to become mixed. Japan for example, prefers to preserve that. They prefer full blood Japanese people. It's part of their values. You will hear from a lot of biracial kids that they went to bullying, especially the black kids. A majority of the population is full blooded Japanese. Even Europe was like that and still is in some places. It's only become more acceptable. And you won't come across a lot of biracial people in japan. Neither did their ancestors take masses black people and Made them into slaves, though they did also participate in their slavery. Now let's say If Japanese people were to have gone to Europe, years ago, they brought white people as slaves, now centuries later there are European Japanese people. It would make sense for a white person to participate in the competition. And even win.

The reason why I give her win a side eye is because her features are painfully average, and some of her features would even be considered unattractive in the West. This is a beauty contest so I don't feel this is a harsh assesment. It begs the question, did she win because she's considered gorgeous or did she win simply because she's white (thus has Caucasian features) and Japan have fetishized these features so much they consider her beautiful. Living in Japan im inclined to believe this is true as I observe happening a lot here.
