During the course of your medical malpractice case, or wrongful death case, or personal injury case, you will have to answer questions by the attorneys for the people and companies you have sued. This is known as a deposition. Lawyers also call it an examination before trial. This question and answer session typically takes place in your attorney's conference room, or on a Zoom video call. Your attorney is present, the defense lawyers are present and a court stenographer will be present to record all of the questions you are asked and all of your answers.
The answers you provide represent your sworn testimony and carries the same exact weight as if you are testifying in Court, at trial, in front of a judge and jury.
A question often comes up when preparing for your deposition whether you will have to answer each and every question you are asked.
