Main appeals for me of electric is less noise to user, less noise pollution, no exhaust fume inhalation, no exhaust clogging in the wet, lighter to handle, cheaper to run (charging vs petrol costs), less maintenance due to lack of carburetor and simple motor compared to a conventional petrol engine. Oh, did I mention anti clog blade reversal technology on the newer stihl models? Of course petrol will always have the advantage on the portability factor in the short term, but battery technology is quickly becoming more compact and at the same time holds more charge, much like the evolution of hard drives.
