Truly Criminal

Ай бұрын

Super Bowl Sunday, 2004. As millions gathered around their televisions to watch one of the world’s biggest sporting events, in Sarasota, Florida, panic began to set in. An 11-year-old girl had failed to make it home from a friend’s house and searches had turned up nothing. It would be grainy footage from the back of a car wash that would blow the case wide open and leave detectives in a race against time to find her.

This was such a horrific crime. A young girl should be entitled to freely walk a short distance home in broad daylight safely. Her mother’s voice is so heartbreaking to listen to. It’s crazy he tried to claim it was all an accident- he truly expects ppl to believe that day he somehow “accidentally” . It’s ridiculous he tried to claim it was somehow all an accident- did he truly think ppl would believe he “accidentally” borrowed a different car, parked it out of sight, quickly got out and grabbed a young girl off the street, severely assaulted and then strangled her, afterwards going to significant effort to hide the evidence. The letter to his brother confirmed he felt no remorse. Pleading to avoid the death penalty to “spare his family” seems outrageous when you consider the endless torment he has inflicted upon poor Carlie’s family and loved ones - their memories of her forever tainted with the knowledge of how horrific and terrifying her final moments must have been. Constantly being reminded of the many amazing life experiences they had been robbed of.

It's extremely important that an offender's rights are not violated, otherwise they can have their case collapse. The most important part about rights, is that they're afforded to absolutely everyone. That way you can be sure they'll apply to you too, no matter what you're ever accused of. It may seem wrong when a court pushes to abide by their rights, but you don't want a higher court to throw out a case because the state violated his rights.
@cdes1776
@cdes1776 Ай бұрын
@@Quizack There is truth in your comment. You need a solid case to prove guilt/innocence. It's the amount of appeals that waste time and resources. It's about money. Yes, there are exceptions especially if there is new evidence but appeals every few years ad infinitum is ridiculous Wanting out of your sentence when it was proven beyond a shadow of doubt, like a spree or mass assaults and worse should be out of the question. I remember the prosecuting attorney telling me that we had to allow this creature his right to ask for a lie detector test (he failed) which delayed the trial by 4 weeks. @@mymagiclieswithin I'm so sorry to hear that. You should never have had to live without him by your side. It's so unfair. Sometimes it's hard to see the intent for why they try so hard to make sure their rights are not violated. Agreed! Some courts allow victims and survivors to show their emotions, as well as to address defendants directly in their victim impact statements. Some don't. Like you do...I think that victims and survivors have earned the right.

I feel there's a difference between showing emotion during sentencing, which is totally allowed, as you can see her mom crying and she was not thrown out, and screaming and shouting, which is disruptive. Everyone needs to be able to hear what's going on, that's simply a fact of procedure.

Killing babies and doing sexual things to them is prolific in the animal world (dolphins and chimpanzees are famous for doing awful things to babies of their own and other species of animals) . We need to stop comparing these people to animals because they don't have the same human morale as us. We shouldn't dehumanise these bastards by comparing them to animals who don't have the moral compass we do.
