In Ceiling Speaker Enclosure - DIY Soundproof Backer Box

Building a DIY Backer box for your in ceiling speakers or a speaker enclosure for your in wall speakers can cause major sound issues if the speaker backer box was not installed correctly.

Some good info on materials to use, but not a lot of explanation on execution. I would think you would really have to fasten these boxes down to prevent rattling in your ceiling. If you go to all the trouble of build a box, you might as well build your own speaker and get the components you want. Or just buy some bookshelf speakers and install them in the ceiling. The trick would be finding the correct size paintable grill.
