That interview between the late Nikki Giovanni and the late James Baldwin seems not like an interview but like two persons in a personal conversation. This I watch on RMU, it took me a back with amazement!
@michellejenkins994Ай бұрын
21:11 I watched the entire conversation for the first time (on the day she passed away … Previously only saw the short clip). It was pensive, powerful, timeless.

I am new and gorging on all of this knowledge - I don’t leave a lot of comments but I just want to say that Dr. Carr is the Elder that I’ve been searching for all my life - so grateful for the education and conversation happening here - I was introduced to Dr. Carr listening to Roland Martin and now cannot listen to him enough - the knowledge is such a deep well and the communication is so authentic…it is the type scholar and cultural knowledge holder that I wish we could see more of

In her poem Nikki Rosa, she talks about living in Woodlawn. She also talks about her family going to meetings about Hollydale, subdivision in Springfield Township outside of Cincinnati, built be Black in the 1940s and 50s. Ted Berry was the attorney for the Hollydale founders. Her father bought stock in the Hollydale corporation. Because of discrimination that led to delays in the project, some of the stockholders had to sell their stock. There's a line in the poem where she talks about her father selling his stock and watching another dream go.

I prolly need to go back and watch the Baldwin/Giavanni convo again. I never watched the whole thing. Seemed like James was trying to dominate the convo.
@JoJo-it6wpАй бұрын
I suggest his critical thoughts were in play instead. A female thinks mostly like Nicki here. Simply love and be loved. That’s the Cinderella dream..right? He saying what I know is said in policy making to this day… these kids are drowning in despair and we need an abundance of resources to help them maintain etc etc. (ie; see how many can pull themselves up by their own bootstraps).
@kmc1994Ай бұрын
@@JoJo-it6wphuh? Your suggesting Giovanni was purely emotional during the conversation? That’s insulting and sexist. Technically, Baldwin was doing the same.
