~min 30s re: learning outcomes & Black -vs- non-Black teachers. TOTALLY agree with Baba Carr's points. Personally my experience as a non-Black student (born abroad to "American" parents, moved to 🇺🇸 in early elementary) in public K-12 (and beyond) was *waaaaay better* with Black teachers. I had *some* good white ones, but what stood out with *all* of my Black teachers was 1) they upheld the humanity of ALL students, and treated us as humans first & foremost, & 2) a greater sense of safety in the classroom community both bc of #1 & also bc of the groundedness & joy in my Black teachers - even if they were stern at times when it was necessary. All of that is rooted in Africana ways of knowing ❤

I wish you could hear me as I am responding to your call ... "slow down; observe; listen to nature; sit in the universe" ...the knowledge all that provides is FREE. My old folks lived on and by the land, so their discernment and intuition were so on point and served them well. Much like George Washington Carver listening to nature. We are losing that exponentially for a thousand five second TicTocs 🤦🏽♀️

Bravo Knubians You and Dr. Carr have just frightened the life out of those Maga people by displaying those children's books. It is crucial that these books are accessible to all black children in America. It would have been great if I had been exposed to these types of books early in my life. My education continues Again Bravo Knubians

@min 28+ re: shifting ways of knowing and literacy: "Consuming Kids: the Commercialization of Childhood" [free on KZbin btw] connects to exactly what Baba Carr is critiquing. The docu traces how Reagan's Congress deregulating television & advertising targeting children (unlike any other "advanced" country) in the 80's has led to a shift in marketing practices from selling products to now selling values, such as individualism, materialism, instant gratification, etc, all of which literally make children & youth sick (in all the ways) .. and yet all these decades later with the explosion of predatory marketing and an our children *drowning* in screens - even in school - there is NO 🇺🇸 federally mandated media literacy curriculum!! Craaaazy!!! So grateful for Knarrative, ICWC, Prof Hunter & Baba Carr ❤❤❤ keeping us sane & grounded, and always TRUTH.

Hello Knubians, I just arrived back in the US this morning from a business trip in UAE; Dubai and Abu Dhabi. I had a number of conversations with the local people of the gulf regarding the use of boycotts in the US civil rights movement to effect social and policy change. Many of these conversations centered around the WE from the US supporting the global WE by providing true education on the tactics and strategies developed and implemented in the US civil rights movement.

So I’m gonna ask the question the Perkins V. is a grant. The community service grant is a grant. The Mckinny Vento is a grant and when you look to see where we are written across America state by state, there are no services allocated to our people so when will we learn that we need to stand together

Under capitalism, "we" is subservient to the concept of community. Dr. Walter Rodney warned just to not adopt the same system that enslaved as your system for your liberation.

Capitalism does not permit an even flow of economic resources. With this system, a small privileged few are rich beyond conscience, and almost all others are doomed to be poor at some level. That's the way the system works. And since we know that the system will not change the rules, we are going to have to change the system. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Why are bananas used negatively in some U.S citizens conversation. At one point in time islands to the south of the North American Continent could have based their GDP on the weekly export of bananas to the European continent. Now this no more, due to Chiquita Bananas having brought the idea before WTO (World Trade Organisation) that the ACP( African, Caribbean and Pacfic) were being granted preferential treatment. As a result an entire industry was killed in most of the islands. Not only bananas were at stake but also the sugar industry! High tariffs on sugar products and by products. positive_An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Derogatory: You are bananas, Banana Republic. 😢

Actually, I think the likes of Cardi B, Diddy, and Cassie would be happy to promote all of these wonderful children's books, and the learning of We in general, if approached - pro bono. I think "We" have to find ways to leverage the power of our celebrities to create more bricks, i.e., increase the literacy of our children. Respectfully. Thank you Prof and Dr. Carr for yet another very enlightening lesson (as usual).

I sincerely appreciate Dr. Carr. However, I'm super tired of hearing about what "they did" or what "they are doing". This conference (which I think is important) from what was shared doesn't address what a fully owned and operated educational system looks like for black people in America. I have a plan that I am executing at a high level, but I'm just so disappointed that we have so many "educated negroes", yet still have a humongous void of courage, imagination, and independent enterprise... Leaves me what wondering, what have we learned? Or do we even learn at all?!
