In the pantheon of watch brands that should be considered as the all-time greats, Richard Mille can undoubtedly be part of the conversation for the role it has played in breaking every known convention of traditional watchmaking, and its global impact in redefining contemporary collecting culture.
Wei caught up with one of the next generation leaders of the brand, Alexandre Mille, Richard's son, who was recently in Singapore for the launch of the RM 88 Smiley. In a wide-ranging interview, Wei finds out from Alex how he got his start in the company and why is Richard Mille probably the most incredible success story in watchmaking history.
Correction: Amanda Mille's current title is Brand & Partnerships Director

Alex is amazing. He never once forgot my name. Always greeting me with hugs and smiles. Same with the US RM team.

I love the bit about ethics starting at 7:44. This is a feature of the Swiss watch industry, and it's something that I find very attractive about the Swiss watch industry. Unfortunately it's not a feature of capitalism per se. Let's not forget that the workers making the most popular and profitable "watch" in the world today live in dormitories in China with suicide nets beneath their windows. (edited to place "watch" in quotes above)

You know man, I born and leave in saint tropez, very near where RM born …. In Draguignan I’m a watch enthusiast and collector of curse But I don’t like the shape of RM and the style. It’s very funny and very cool shape but it’s difficult for me to understand the price But when I listen to his son and feel the passion of the brand and see how they are good humans, now I love much much more the brand and perhaps one day have the money and the chance to purchase one RM Love you guys for your passion and your very good job

I wish NYC boutique was as welcoming as mentioned, think everyone I've met in the NYC watch community has had a poor experience in the boutique unless they are a large customer of the brand.

The money these companies spend on marketing makes you question what your paying for ? Great interview but this is a watch purchase to ‘fund’ the brand !

I think the service by Richard Mille is a bit overpriced and I think the sale team should be more welcoming. I took my watch to japan and Singapore. Two service quote the price of service differently one cost 20,000 sg and later cost 1.6 million yen (14,000 sg). That’s 6000$ sg difference in price. 🙄 ps. This is Richard Mille rm10 basic movement.

Exactly. What does that tell you? Even he knows RM watches are a sham. There’s a sucker born every minute of every day.
