I've definitely been in a camp closer to Aggro here. I can understand why it wouldn't gel with certain people, but I've personally been thriving pretty well with this show's humor. (Aside from the sister character, kind of surprised she was never brought up as a low point)

@@AmazingGguy She’s such a 2000s era character. And it wouldn’t be such a problem, but she’s positioned as one of the main cast, so she kind of drags the whole dynamic down.

Same. I was a bit disappointed in the first 2 episodes, but once all of the main cast is introduced I think it found it's rhythm culminating in episode 5 (the best episode so far imo). The show is literally a meme. It's an assault on the senses and doesn't even try to make sense. And I love it for that.

I feel like everyone was prepping for this show to be the next big JoJo’s, where there was a new meme every week, but there really hasn’t been anything that’s caught on at all aside from the song. And that started before the show even aired. Within the actual episodes, there’s actually been very little to work with.

After the first episode I figured out what the show was gonna be and adjusted my expectations, and have been loving how psychotic it is.

My favorite gag anime is still Sabagebu. And that's based entirely on the fact that the main girl basically has the personality of Daffy Duck. And everyone around her is just trying to get out of the blast radius when she gets involved in something.

This manga is also pretty dry, at least for the amount if it that I've read, it's not the adaptation. At least it's not Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa/My Monster Secret. That manga is transcendently funny, and the anime has the energy of high school improv comedy

I was unaware there was even 6 episodes of this show OUT. Dont think I've seen any talk about it beyond the spider-man 3 reference since the show started releasing.

I feel really bad for the English dub cast, all of them seemingly got what they believe was their first big break, only for what they’re working on to not be a great dub. I hope those VAs get better work soon.

Don't worry I made it 23 episodes into Gintama and I still don't get it. People tell me if you can make it to somewhere in the 50s you'll love it.

Half of gintama by volume is a battle shonen thts raw as hell. The comedy chs/eps are what u wish bleach filler was being so delightful lol

I like this show, but I fully admit that if you stack it up next to its predecessors (Azumanga Daioh, Nichijou, Lucky Star, etc.), it comes out looking mid. It is firmly in the mid-tier of the ‘girls gag comedy’ genre with shows like Pani Poni Dash. But, it does have the distinct advantage of being the only show from that weirdly specific sub-genre out right now, which is where I think most of the hype comes from.

Yeah gintama opening on two anime original episodes that are kinda eh was bizarre but it shows how little faith the staff had in the anime and you can see them fall in love with the series in real time as the show goes on

I saw months worth of online hype for this before it even came out. Then there was the huge machine-translation scandal right at launch, and then nothing until this podcast. I'm not hooked up to the right circles for a lot of anime discourse, but even I can feel the vibes of a show that sure does exist. Uh-huh. Yup. It's there.

Regardless thank you nokotan for brainrot memes. Also the first two episodes of gintama isnt even apart of the manga lmao I understand dropping it. As a fan I dont even like those eps.
