Over his 20 years lecturing and researching these themes, Simon has witnessed the evolution of the relationship between social media and conventional journalism. In his TEDx talk, he will explore the weaponization of disinformation and polarization on social media, and the importance of defending the ideals of conventional journalism. Simon Gwyn Roberts is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Chester, where he was part of the team that launched the journalism programmes in 2003. He is a journalist and writer with a research interest in travel, comparative work, and the relationship between social media, mainstream media, and wider politics.
