If you had the credits for it, a swarm of these monsters would be havoc to fight off. Even better, without an organic to train up, these would actually be a good disposable fighter that would be able to out perform many pilots. If they could fit a light deflector in there, you may be looking at one of the best swarm fighters in the galaxy up into the original trilogy.

Out of curiosity, were they superior to the regular TIE? (4 laser cannons and missiles seems superior to just two cannon) If they were cheaper AND superior to the tie fighter then the Empire should have used them especially with upgraded tech (replace the middle cannon with an ion/ upgraded droid brain and communications for longer range ) regardless of any anti droid sentiment, heck if Tarkin wanted fear, upgrading old cis tech and using it against people who still remembered what those droids did... That would be real fear

I mean Why upgrade they were so sophisticated that instead of swarming and being a joke for the pilots they were feared by even jedi hell instead of upgrading pump double the ammount since they are almost 2 times smaller and 2 times cheaper while instead of tie stats its closer to a buffed interceptot with missiles then cutting the crew cost and training you just have 2.5 more superior starfighters with higher intimidation factoe or used saved up money for more human training and tie defenders leave TIE F/Ns to planetary security forces

Also the reason why they weren't used is that Palpatine made his empire dislike droids so having them in military would increase chances of betrayal from planets

1 laser cannon and 3 light lasers. Combined the light lasers had almost the same output as the cannon. So 1 3/4 cannon vs. the two cannons on the TIE. The problem with all droids is that they're stupid. They fought in patterns and were susceptible to irregular and erratic maneuvers. Trifighters made up for that lack of intuition by working is swarms or groups. Sound familiar? This meant that if a clone fighter was turning, the 3 or more trifighters could set themselves up to tackle the different possible maneuvers that were physically possible by the clone. The clone might dodge 2 but the 3rd stays on him and the others just reposition afterward. It's easy to see how this may have contributed to the use of swarm or group TIE fighter doctrines after the clone wars. I always was curious how effective the tail gun on the ARC was when dealing with trifighters.

Add a compliment of these onto any corvette and it becomes terrifying lol. On another note, due to their size I wonder if an arc 170 could be modified to carry some into battle? We’ve seen that R2 D2 can activate and control vulture droids. An arc 170 with four of these as wing men would be brutal.

A lot of the CIS vehicles seem to be rather cheap compared to other star fighters, etc. I would imagine, however, that is because no life support systems are needed, and what not. But even then, the tri-fighter droid being half the cost of a TIE fighter but at least twice as good seems a bit ridiculous, _unless_ we are to assume they were sold at cost to the CIS by the bugs who made them- especially if these are the bug species that worship technology IIRC. We may also be able to assume corruption in the Empire drove the costs of TIE fighters up, but not with any certainty. Either way, a lot of the price points and at times even stats don't make sense, in typical Star Wars fashion. :/

If the empire was conditioned to dislike droids, and that that was the problem with using them anymore, then how about an upscaled one with a human pilot and hyperdrive and shields? It has to be better then a Tie (albight more expensive, but at least don't put super skilled and expensive personnel in such flying coffins damn it!
