It’s here, the 2020 Tesla Holiday update 2020.48.26. In this holiday update, Tesla have given us more games, a different user interface, plus a whole host of other features. I’ll run you through the highlights of the software as features on my Tesla Model 3, so it may be slightly different if you own a Model S, X or Model Y.

Interesting. My additional vehicle information just says ‘premium’ under audio system. It’s a 2020 model. But, I don’t have boombox either. Maybe it’s a regulation thing?

Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS). As of 1 July 2019, all new private and commercial electric and hybrid vehicles must come fitted with an Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) to meet audio warning legislation. Took delivery of my 2021 SR+ on 5th December (haven't had the update yet) but if I don't get Boombox does that mean I'm breaking the law 🤔

No UK or EU cars have the external speaker even after Sept 2019 production.i only took delivery of mine on the 23rd Dec and don't have it. In regards to the animations of the car.... id rather some better functionality in updates instead of little gimmicks. The speedometer size has been made smaller too by the way... not good for the driver. I feel to much is emphasised on silly visualisations not on the function of the car. Let's be honest we should be looking at the road even driving not at cones or wheelie bins on a screen

Its odd, I think the speakers will be in place, as it was EU law that all new models of electric cars from I think June 2020 have to be fitted with a speaker, the 2021 Model 3 should count as a new model, but either way, I believe from the start of 2021, all newly manufactured electric cars need to have one fitted, whether it was part of the original model design or not. I'm same as you, I would prefer functionality, I'm sure more functional stuff will be added soon, like Birdseye view. My prediction is that will be shown on the right hand side of the screen where all the new space has been created, then you can keep the normal reverse and repeater cameras up

Totally agree Gareth. They should spend more time and money getting the fundamentals working before all the childish stuff. Never play the games. Get the wipers working stop the driver seat going back when there’s someone in the back seat fix cancelling the indicators stop phantom breaking etc.

Can you confirm that M3 2020 have external speaker for Boombox ?

It appears from all the comments, that no Model 3 that has been delivered to Europe has the external speaker. Even the 2021 Model

I think the external amplifier is the sub woofer one and not one used for the external speaker as others on the Tesla forum have enabled the speaker by installing one but it only works before the car falls asleep which then requires a re-boot to enable it again.

Ah, might make sense, as I shouldn't have the premium speaker package - I don't like the idea of third party installers or equipment, I feel is a single software update will disable it, but I guess Tesla aren't quite as harsh as Apple when it comes to these things

Best new feature is the boombox? I'm sorry I don't understand. In what way is this a great feature? It's bloody childish.

it was kind of the only new feature? the rest were tweaks, and we didn’t even get the Boombox in the UK and Europe it would appear. I do think it would be handy to play sounds for low speed driving, especially for partially sighted people,, and to be able to customise them is good, but appreciate some people may take it too far

Removed regen settings and still no snow-mode but the windows and wheels move on the visualization and we can play fart noises so great.... What a shitty update policy Tesla has these days. I wish i could roll back to August update where i could at least choose my own regen setting.

Mainly gimmicks. New visualisation is pointless and just takes more space from more useful stuff. Why would I want to see the door open on screen? I know I’ve opened it. It’s form over function. How about showing full titles of music tracks, getting auto wipers out of beta, letting you open glovebox while watching KZbin etc.

I agree, it does seem mainly gimmicks, I have a feeling they wanted to release more, they just missed the deadline, as this doesn't live up to the hype it received prior to the release. The door open thing, has come in handy in the past, when I've not released its open a tiny bit from not closing it before, I'm guessing its for things like that

Awesome 👍 thanks for the video, been waiting for UK version since Xmas day. Now I just need to push for an update once I got a chance (zero WiFi in basement carpark and too cold/lazy to get out). So does that mean I could use schedule departure to precondition the battery without heating whilst not plugged in? That's probably the most useful thing for me of this update. Though v disappointed there won't be boombox even on 2021 model...

From what I could tell, if not plugged in, it didn't heat up the car, but the pre-conditioning of the battery started on the app, it only pre-heated the car if the charger was plugged in, power was on and the car had met its designated charge level. I guess it might change slightly with further update tweaks though, so will keep an eye on it

Personally, I'm not too impressed with it. I can't believe they significantly reduced the width of the right pane where the majority the useful stuff is shown (i.e. maps, Spotify, web browser, Caraoke, energy, etc.). Do I really want to see a larger visual of the car in the left pane? Tesla, if you're listening, can you please at least make the pane width configurable so that those who prefer the wider right pane can have it so?

I think the configurable screen is actually a really good idea, but I guess it depends on what Tesla have planned for that right hand side. It might be that at this early stage we don't see the benefit, but as time goes on the "Master Plan" will become clear

Good video but don’t understand the off peak charging update? For you can now set it up to stop for your off peak tariff but you have to cancel schedule charging so now can’t set a start time for your off peak tariff? Why can’t you have a start and finish time just like my wife’s BMW i3?

I wish, if they had assigned one of the steering buttons for phone calls. Like , a long press on volume rocker activates the call function, and scrolling it allows to scroll through our recent calls or contact list. Then a short press makes the call, and another short press ends the call and defaults back to audio control.!!!

The new driver visualization takes up too much screen real estate... I'd rather have more map space. The visualization is not useful - it's just a novelty.

Hi James, I don’t think you can. I imagine the only way round it might be to hide video files in the sentry can drive, but you wouldn’t be able to hear sound

Das Holiday Update 2020 entäucht größtenteils - nur wenig sinnvolle Funktionen und noch mehr unnütze Spiele - Geschwidigkeitsanzeige braucht kein "Mensch" mehr im Tesla und ist bald nur noch mit Lupe zu erkennen. Wichtiger in meinen Augen wäre folgende Verbesserungen: Bessere Kartendaten für dir richtige Geschwindigkeit. Schildererkennung auf Autobahnen. Ein ende der gefährlichen phantom Bremsungen. Es ist nicht das beste Update, das ich je gesehen habe. Ich hoffe, dass in V11 noch mehr kommen und dass sie nur hinter dem Zeitplan zurückliegen. Ich verstehe das Schild mit der Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung auf der Autobahn nicht. Es unterscheidet sich sicherlich nicht von einem normalen Schild. Ich bin mir also nicht sicher, warum es sie nicht lesen kann. Ich denke, die Stunts werden bekannt, was Elon liebt :)

My model 3 was delivered in November. I have not external speakers. I am not sure about the new interface. Having 2 buttons for cameras is a bit of a waste . The biggest issue is the smaller Speedo, its not as easy to see from the corner of your eye

How are you finding the speedo now? I've got use to it pretty quickly to be honest, and I'm lazy and put cruise control on a lot of the time, so I don't tend to worry about the speed. I only worry I'd be over the limit and autopilot makes sure I'm not, so all good

Really thorough and good video Andy! Seems a bit of an underwhelming update though. All the rumours swirling of heated steering wheel activated for 2021 refresh models and 360 birds eye view reverse camera would have been awesome. These updates seem a bit minor and naff...

i think you is right about fsd running in shadow mode as i tried a roundabout and it turned the steering wheel more than before.

Yeah, I have found it will now slow more naturally for roundabouts, draws the route better, it has even started going on the wrong side of the road on occasions to avoid parked cars, which it has never done before (Not consistently), it seems to be able to drive better on country roads, but as I said, I think that all came with 2020.48.12.1, as not noticed anything new autopilot wise in 2020.48.26

Hopefully you've gotten it by now? I got 2020.48.30 last night, although must be under the hood improvements, as nothing new in release notes. Interesting it now says I'm on 2020.48.26 in my release notes screen (even though on 2020.48.30), as opposed to 2020.48.25 which it said when I was on 2020.48.26. Weird

Apparently the wiring harness is already installed for external speaker, speakers are available from Hansshow and others.
