The film fulls apart after the first half ends. Regardless of the fantastic energy and tone, the second half destroys any credibility. It’s just one of those post modern horror films, that doesn’t want to be a horror film and thinks it’s way more intelligent then it is.

If youre into that style I also recommend Nicholas Winding Refn's Neon Demon if you havent seen it already. The visuals are gorgeous and it does blur the lines between beauty and brutality. Overall left me wanting more and it wasnt totally mindblowing or anything but I recommend it to anyone who likes hyperstylized artistic horror.

@TheAnadromist4 жыл бұрын
@@Allgloss312 Hmm let's see. Well obviously there are many films that feature beautiful women and stylish settings, but actual horror films where beauty is actually part of the subject matter of the film? A couple of older films stand out. One is Daughters of Darkness a strange stylish Belgian vampire film from the 70's. The Hunger (with David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve) is another vampire film that emphasizes the beauty of the vampires as they never age. Likewise Jim Jarmusch's strange vampire film The Only Lovers Left Alive follows a similar theme. Both versions of Suspiria play a high contrast between beauty and horror, especially emphasizing the dance world too. Eyes of Laura Mars deals with a serial killer in the uber-chic high fashion world of the late 70's. And do not miss Ms. 45, with an absolutely unique sense of beauty and horror. The 1946 (!) film by French master Jean Cocteau, La Belle et la Bête (Beauty and the Beast) is jaw-droppingly beautiful and strange. But the one which really hits the nerve for me, my all time favorite, is from 1959 another French film called Les Yeux Sans Visage (Eyes Without A Face) the subject matter, which features deformity and and plastic surgery, is beauty and horror. Stunning stuff. Work your way up to this one. Other films of note: Dagon, The Cell, The Company of Wolves, Cat People (1941), Mulholland Dr., The Love Witch, Dead Ringers. Finally I have been slowly getting a new channel ready... it features my own work in this area. I haven't announced it to the world yet. There is much more I need to upload. Give it a look. kzbin.info/door/ppi2paqCdI4v6YBrtb3k3g

I don't know what to think with this one. The first part was great, but the last part was a mess. I don't know if they couldn't pay for Marianne Jean-Baptiste or if she had to film other thing, because her story finished so abruptly and the rest of the movie is so boring and uninteresting. I don't know why this has so good reviews. It's seems nowadays like when somebody does a nonsense art movie is a genius and original. In this case, great photography, great music score, great acting at the first part, but the story it's full of things that goes nowhere.

I liked this movie and its take on consumerism and how it forces to make hard choices. though it needed a bit more work on the script which felt abstract but still it was a good film. In the sense the film managed to emphasize its point. Like the Lighthouse its ending would also be open to interpretations but a good effort. I thought this film could have gained from a mainstream approach to the narrative with the symbolism thrown in between. But a very watchable movie and well made. This is good horrrar as the lady says it.

This movie was a big miss for me. Couldn't believe they got rid of the initial characters story (I love Marie Jean Baptiste) which was the only interesting element to me. Once that left, the whole "living dress" and even the "vampire" stuff got extremely hacky and had no substantial ground to stand on because it had a shaky plot. I think this director tries hard to be esoteric and just doesn't know how to tell a good story. He gets too ambitious with his storytelling to the point where the basics are thrown out. I was attached to the first story with the characters and then couldn't care less what happened after that. Probably the worst A24 movie I've ever seen and I was surprised to find out they were associated with this, but they all can't be hits I guess.
@martinlarrivee50815 жыл бұрын
I think this one is a misfire by A24. It's obviously a thin idea that was way overstretched for a full feature. Would have work maybe for a short film, but here it feels long and boring, kind of uneventful. It's going for a mix between David Lynch's universe and Return of the Killer Tomatoes... but it feels forced and doesn't have the wit and the brilliance of what it's aiming for.
