I've been waiting for this review! So far, this album is my most anticipated record of the first half of the year. From the singles, which are all incredible, I can tell it's an early AOTY contender, well, until we hear the new Ne Obliviscaris.

I have to agree that Foregone is the best IF album in at least 20 years. I couldn't tell you the last time I could listen to a new In Flames album start to finish with no skips (with the obvious exception of the intro track). I haven't been able to put this one down since it dropped. So good.

Still torn on this one. It's not even that I disagree with you that much (except for the intro that I absolutely love), but I dunno, maybe it's that my excpectations are too high or because I was binging last years entries of Amorphis, Brymir and The Halo Effect before I went into this record, but not once did I thought of this album as album of the year material. Maybe it's also that vocals are very important to me and Anders Friden simply isn't in the same league with Tomi Joutsen and Mikael Stanne, especially as far as his cleans go (he has improved on those, I'll give him that). I'll certainly give it a few more rotations and might warm up to it a little more. But those three albums I mentioned from 22? All way better than this one.

The reason the guitars push the record and stand out.... is because In Flames was always about the guitars and they lost their way with Siren Charms and Battles putting the guitars way back.... or even not existent with a proper mix because the keys and synths lead the way. Which isn't In Flames. It never was. When they got rid of melodic acoustic lines and strong guitar leads then you lost In Flames. I, The Mask was attempting to bring it back but giving Broderick room to play leads and taking the time to write stronger songs brings the band back to that Clayman to Come Clarity era. Finally. Its about time.

Definitely. The latest albums had almost that "plastic" guitar sound whereas this album is much more analog and undisturbed guitar list. Otherwise album is definitely sounds much like modern era with more aggressive vocals. It's absolutely beautiful imo regardless.

Same here. That was the last album I genuinely enjoyed. The only record I still listen to after that every now and again is Sounds of a Playground Fading. I don't have high expectations any more, but I'll surely be checking this out when it drops.

What was wrong with Come Clarity?
@mokuscsik
@mokuscsik 2 жыл бұрын
@@KevinTheMetalhead Nothing's wrong with it per se, I guess, but that's where I noticed how annoying Anders' "clean singing/whining" is for me. And it's not about me being against clean vocals at all, but it just pisses me off every time I listen to it. If. I really gave that album a chance because it still had the momentum from previous releases, but it never really clicked because of the vocals. He actually became much better with his cleans over the years that's why I think I quite like SoaPF.

Hey Pedro! Great review. I gotta say after checking out your review, I'm more excited for this record. When I heard that Broderick joined In Flames, I was really skeptical. Phenomenal guitarist, but when he was in Megadeth, his playing felt very robotic and emotionless. Maybe that was Mustaine's fault though. I The Mask wasn't my favorite either, but I'm looking forward to checking this one out.

The things that held me back from putting this on the AOTY list are Anders clean vocals and the lyrics. It sounds extremely forced and bogs down the quality of the listen. Kind of disappointed tbh but it is the best In Flames record in a while. The guitar work is excellent. I give it a 3.5 / 5
