This story brought me to tears. I worked hard to achieve the right to proudly say, "I am an Eagle Scout." Looking at the merit badges Andrew already had earned at such a young age, I have no doubt he too, would have reached Scouting's highest rank. To Mr. McMorris, you are to be commended for your role as a Scout Leader, and your close relationship with your talented son. May the memories of Andrew sustain you, your wife, and daughter in the years ahead.

I was 13 and a passenger in a car driven by a drunk driver. I have had severe back injuries requiring surgery which brought on osteoarthritis and scoliosis. Im now in a nursing home relying on a power wheelchair to get around. I can only walk from my bed to washroom and back. Dont even get in a car with anyone who has been drinking. My condolences to the families of those killed by drunk drivers and RIP to those who died.😢😢😢😢😢

Oh it pains me to watch you miss your son and brother. I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my sister to a drunk drive at 7am in the morning, whilst she was going to work at the hospital. She never made it there. That was in 1990 and it’s still as painful now as it was then. The pain never goes away as you well know. I pray for you all. I know how hard it is for you, and probably harder than I know as I’ve not lost a child, only a beloved sibling. My sincere condolences to your poor family. :(

I'm so sorry for your loss 🌹🙏🏼 Something similar happened to me a few months ago 😕 There's a grocery store about 5 miles from my house and I love walking so I decided to walk there (took a little over an hour to get there), I made it there, and as i'm walking back home (barely 15 minutes walk from my house) one of my next door neighbors pulls over thinking I had car issues and needed help, and as we're talking an elderly woman comes speeding by her right hand side car mirror slams into my right arm, purse, and groceries. It happened so fast I didn't even have time to react but she hit me so hard it made me spin, fall back a good bit from where I was originally standing, and landed hard onto the ground completely disorientated- keep in mind it was in broad daylight, me and my neighbor were well over 5 feet from the road on the grass, my neighbor's truck was properly and clearly parked on the side of the road, and there was next to no other cars on the road at the time. I was extremely lucky because other then my groceries being destroyed (which seemed to have taken most of the brunt of the car hit), and having superficial injuries to my arm (it completely swelled up, was bruised all over, stiff, sore, there was muscle damage, and this lasted for almost a month but nothing broken) I came out of it okay which sadly isn't the case for everyone. Had that woman drove a little bit more off of the road, had I stood a little closer to the road, or I wasn't carrying heavy groceries that took the brunt it could've ended A LOT worse for me so i'm extremely grateful and ain't gonna lie even months later it's still mind blowing to think about how crazy it was and how close I came to death 😟 The elderly woman wasn't drunk but unfortunately I can see now why some people think elderly people shouldn't be driving, she was really nice but I could tell she wasn't all the way there and shouldn't of been driving.

I am glad you are okay. When I got hit by lady talking on her cell phone. I was very lucky not to be hurt really bad too. Andrew was just little boy. The suffering these poor parents have. All he had to do was call cab. None of this would have happened.

My Mother was killed in 1970 at the hands of a drunken driver and I cannot fathom how many more people have died in the same PREVENTABLE way. It just keeps happening and there is technology to at least reduce the chances however people get around that too. These are not accidents, they are murders by selfish people who make choices that change lives forever. I was 4 years old, let that sink in…at 4 years old my family had to try and explain that my Mom wasn’t ever coming home. To this day I offer rides to people on major holidays, I speak to anyone who will listen, and I’ve never forgotten how everything changed in 1970.

I thank God that Andrew's dad was there with him when this accident happened. Andrew had family with him, supporting and loving him from life through to death. He was never alone during his traumatic event. He had a wonderful life with lots of family and friends who loved and supported him. Too many people are not as fortunate in life as he was. It is such a sad thing that he did not survive.

Every drunk driver should have to go to hundreds of dui accident scenes and pick up what's left of someone after they've been killed by a drunk driver and when they think they've seen enough they need to go to the funeral homes and try to fix what THEY HAVE BROKEN!!!!!!!

We as a country need to take DUI much more seriously. 1st offense, 6 months in jail. If a life is taken, you go to prison for the rest of your life. Plain and simple. We are up in arms about gun related deaths in our country. Which is horrific in itself. But nobody talks about the ones we lose from selfish drunks. It is so unfair. Bless all these families.

This kills me. The lose of this beautiful little boy really is maddening. I pray that this family, the community, and the group of children that witnessed what happened on that day, can heal, and find some peace. The pain and anguish of losing a child will never go away, and the man that took Andrew has to live with that for the rest of his life. And I hope to god he never has a day of peace and that he’s forced to relive the moment he stole this precious boy from the earth. I hope he serves the maximum time in prison. Which isn’t enough years if u ask me. It’s disgusting that vehicular manslaughter can sometimes only lead to 4-20 years in prison depending on the state the crime was committed. That’s a joke!!! It should be an eye for an eye. U take a life, then u lose yours… Period!!! This animal will get out in a few years and be able to pick up his life where he left off, and seeing as how he was drinking and driving in the middle of the day shows that he is probably an alcoholic which means he’ll get out and continue drinking and most likely get behind the wheel once again and the sick crazy cycle will never be broken and there’s a huge chance he could take another life. Why risk that chance. Our government has to do something now! We have to stop being so lenient with these criminals. It’s up to us to save the lives of the innocent

I won't call the guilty party by name... he deserves no sign of respect. On a Sunday morning (Sep. 30, 2018), shortly before 2pm, The Killer recklessly and selfishly got behind the wheel of his white Mercedes SUV after pounding vodka since 9am at the Swan Lake Golf Club. He played only six rounds of golf... he was more interested in drinking. Videos taken with his phone show him slurring his words. One friend was so worried he asked The Killer if he could drive him home. The Killer refused, got in his car, and plowed into the group of boy scouts. When he got out of his SUV, he said, "Oh, s---. I'm in trouble"... thinking only of himself and HIS dilemma. He refused a breathalyzer test on the scene. Blood tests administered four hours later still showed his blood alcohol to be .13 (where the legal limit is .08). FOUR HOURS LATER!!! The Killer maintained his innocence, saying he wasn't drunk... it was an accident. His attorney said The Killer cries every single day about being involved in this accident. (Yes, HE cries every day. HE thinks he's innocent. HE says it was an accident. All about himself. Not a word about Andrew. Not a word about Andrew's family's loss.) Now HE faces 8 1/3 to 25 years in prison. It was The Killer's choice to drink vodka to excess on that Sunday morning. It was his choice to drive. It was his choice to turn down a breathalyzer. Andrew didn't choose to die that morning. He had NO choice at all.

If you get caught drunk driving I think you should loose your right to drive ever again because you cam bet they've done it many times before they get caught that first time. This is tragic amd if you kill someone through drink driving you should be charged with first degree murder because you got behind the wheel of a deadly weapon impared. My son always has a breathalyser for the morning after he goes out. We can put a man on the moon but we can't put a device in a car that detects alcohol and drugs and stops it from starting.
