The biggest surprise to me, though, is that there was no Jessica Rabbit figure produced. I know kids weren't fond of female action figures, but I can guarantee that figures of Jessica Rabbit would have been snapped up by older fans of the movie.

Mirco machines. Remember when they first came out in the late 80s I think? They were awesome and as a kid of 9-12 I was instantly addicted! Then they went nuts are started flooding toy stores with billions of them of everything you can think of. I thought they were going overboard about 1997 and I stopped looking for them around that time. The early series stuff was the greatest. There was a bullet bike series once, so tiny but I always wanted to get it, I searched years and never did find one. They had micro machine monster trucks at one point. You got 3 to a pack. I think some had light up headlights at a later date. I always wanted those but sadly never found any after that first time. I had to rely on allowance money as a kid. $5 every 2 weeks just didn't allow for very much cool 80s stuff. My money went for gijoe, legos, hot wheels. There wasnt any room in my budget for different stuff, lol.

Honestly, I really love this line. It also happens to be my number one favorite movie though. I do agree with some complaints, like where are the other characters?! And yeah, Doom is a bad likeness, but I do have this whole set and I think Bob Hoskins is pretty decent, especially for the time! Funny thing about the Benny the Cab Toy, it was actually recalled. In fact, I don’t think it even came out in the US. I got him off eBay. You can put roger in it, but that’s all that fits. Should have designed him bigger and better, with room for two characters, including leg room for those other than roger. And for sure they needed a Jessica figure, among others.
@eugeneketaminekrebs34035 жыл бұрын
It probably would have costed LJN money to use the likeness of Bob Hoskins and Christopher Lloyd, which is maybe why their faces look like that.
@scottandrewhutchins3 жыл бұрын
Another line I mostly remember seeing at Kmart. I had forgotten that there were only four characters, and I remember that Smart Guy (Boss Weasel) was a censoring of Smartass. Yes, they looked bland, and I never owned any. LJN was pretty overrated. I had one of the Thundercats Berzerkers and got bored with it fairly quickly.

I thought the movie wasn't the best, but not the worst action figure line based on a movie. If they would've made a Jessica Rabbit figure, it would've probably been a peg warmer in 1988, but would've been worth hundreds today in my opinion. A real great example of this is Marion Ravenwood from the Kenner Indiana Jones toy line. This figure was passed up by boys then because they didn't want female supporting characters. Somehow, they were bought up from clearance bins and now worth a lot more than the Indiana Jones figure itself.
@k-trashradio51635 жыл бұрын
It kinda makes sense ljn thought roger rabbit would bomb keep in mind in 1988 animation was not very well respected ironically it was Roger rabbit and little mermaid that kicked off the Disney renaissance and make animated movies marketable

Exo squad. Remember these? Was a very short toy line and show. I thought I was the coolest thing I had ever seen in my life and I bought the green and orange one, don't remember its name now. But the first series only had 4 mechs! I was so pissed off that they didn't take it further. They had such huge potential to be a billion dollar toy line and spinoff movies left and right but they shot themselves in the foot and killed it way too soon. I only remember 4 mechs and the TV show for like 1 season and then the toys went on clearance at Walmart and were gone in 2 months. It made me very sad to see it go. Exo squad should be on this list for stupidest toy marketing. I don't know what they were thinking, probably some idiot fresh out of college with zero experience in his field that had a cool idea but ruined the company and franchise in under 6 months.

Honestly, aren't 99.9% of action figures boring for a kid if they just get one? Even Star Wars figures are boring to play with if you just get one. Really, Transformers are the only figure line I can see being fun if you only have one since it's 2-6 modes in one figure depending on the toy.
@big61al415 жыл бұрын
wow, what a let down this must have been for a kid...I suppose judge doom could have pointed a lot with the cane - boring...
@stevenbach7445 жыл бұрын
Darn it these may have just kicked over the top out of my #1 worst list. But my ranking is based off of how I would play with them. And I can’t find any fun value in these or action figures that just arm wrestle.
@nickmanzo84595 жыл бұрын
This is really disappointing, you’d think they could give Judge Doom all sorts of wacky cartoonish weapons, like change out hands, like an anvil, spring shoes, a Cane that could turn into a saw arm, Eddie could have had a cartoon gun with the humorous cartoon bullets, Roger Rabbit could have had the gun he used to hold up the weasels and Doom or the will, or even some change out heads for various expressions, shit, imagine if they made the abandoned warehouse with the dip cannon as a playset! They could have taken advantage of the slime craze by having slime spray out of that thing to kill your cartoon action figures, Jessica Rabbit with a frying pan clobbering action, they could have even put the bend ‘em judge Doom packaged with the playset so the Dip cannon could run over and flatten him. LJN produced some good toys, like the D&D action figures, some bad toys like... well nearly everything else they did, but where was the imagination? Rant over.

I've always thought the Congo movie figures were just atrocious. If you don't have a video about them, you should totally do it. I believe it was Kenner that made them and they were just horrible. They didn't really represent the movie at all. Just another shameless cashgrab by Kenner.

Movie Reviews LJN made the Thundercats line, the quality was there, but their articulation was only 5 points, and they did look like their cartoon counterparts.
@nickmanzo84595 жыл бұрын
Movie Reviews I disagree, the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons action figures were quite beautiful, and, as a fan of Masters of the Universe, I can say the detail of those figures was far and away superior in most examples. The playset, the Fortress Of Fangs, was awesome too. Sure, LJN made some stinkers, but Mattel made some crap too.

ljn toys were always the worst junk with the exception of their WWF wrestlers, a solid chunk of rubber; you could kill someone with one of those things.

cuda70gt can’t agree. The Advanced Dungeons and Dragons line was a home fun except for a few trip up toys involved in the line.

Some dnd was ok the whole line was inconsistent with some figuers being sold chunks of plastic and others being more articulated. Not the most popular line. Wwf was by far ljn biggest hit.

cuda70gt yeah, I know it wasn’t very popular, but, it was still a solid run of toys. I’m more of a Masters of the Universe guy, but D&D action figures were good (for the most part) in my opinion, proving LJN could make a good toy line.

I didn't know these existed. I agree that there's so much more they could have done with the line - a couple more vehicles, a play set, 3-4 more figures and you really could have had something here. And that card "art" is just lazy. Really too bad.
@paulszmall65592 жыл бұрын
Damn I thought for sure you would give the quality a 1. This line traumatized me as a kid because Rogers arm broke off immediately and my parents wouldn’t return or replace toys that broke. Mine didn’t last a day before Rogers arm snapped off and the Weasels gun is molded into his hand. The quality was god awful!
@chrisnelmes71805 жыл бұрын
Ljn did a lot of video games for the NES,mostly movie licenses as well as a few add on accessories for the NES as well. Most,if not all,were truly awful. LJN seems to have been a company that put almost no effort into everything they made . Their WWF line was their biggest success.

The best movie action figure toy line? Star Wars. Okay, that was easy. Unless you want to distinguish between the Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi lines.
