Fabulous bells and very impressive. Looks nicely maintained up there, and I can well believe it was amazing with ear protection off. Very nice!!

I spotted the spare clapper for the tenor/bourdon bell! Also, this is my FAVORITE set of change ringing bells! Thank you so much for sharing this!

The tenor isn't a bourdon. The Bourdon would be great Peter

@Bens vlogging channel I feel like I could go up to the ringing room during a peal and take a pillow, simply lay down close my eyes and for around 4 hours simply be in the moment with no worries and just listen

I love the sound of York Minster bells, they are perfect bells and the accoustic enviorment also seems perfect. Im amazed at the quality of your recording. i I recorded them back in 2000 I not only got accoustic distortion but the sound waves also vibrated the camera tape. No doubt you use flash memory. Also noticed the wooden shaft on the clapper of the tenor, wasnt there in 2000 Our tenor at St Andrews Cathedral in Sydney also Taylors has a wooden shaft. Once again thanks its Brilliant.

As change ringers we do not pay much attention to the notes of each bell. Changeringing uses a number for each bell as written notation. The key note of the tenor (heaviest bell) is enough information really as it is quite rare to find a ring of bells that are not in the major scale. As for your wish to hear Great Peter, visit my channel page and click on the main video you find there. You have to 3 minutes for Great Peter but it sounds amazing!

Unusually at York Minster they have painted the wheels and stays as well, they are of the normal wood but just painted nice colours...
@LongboatLtd20046 жыл бұрын
That type of red (i will call it "York's red") is the best color for the mechanisms of the bells (Great Peter/bourdon included). Were the 12 shown here installed before Great Peter? Thank you so much for sharing this video! Best regards, Franz Ferdinand

I was wondering about the quarter arrangements before the Queen Mum chime was installed. So it was a ting tang quarters. Not very grand when you consider it is York Minster! The rods that run vertically through the corner of the ringing chamber to these clock hammers are still there.

Bah! Catherbury Cathedral are far superior! Nah! Only kidding. These are definitely the finest bells in the world.I'd missed this video, well done Paul for getting it! Brings back many happy memories of wandering up there during practice. I suggest scrapping the two trebles, just having the back ten. G9 on 59cwt 1924 JT 10, Ho Ho Ho! That spare clapper is pretty heavy, I had the great pleasure of shifting it for some reason, can't remember why...

I have heard them at St Pauls. They sound a bit naff! I do like the quarter chimes at York. But i didnt get a recording of them. I did however get 3 minutes of Great Peter being swung in the rain.

@Read1526 Should have heard it before the video started! It was an extremely humid night and the Minster Ringers were not quite at their best, apparently. Still some quality ringing though.
