Yep, I'm going to try and do the impossible and attempt to explain how Street Fighter III's Remy is more than just the emo edge lord he appears to be.

I say bring him back as the Anti-Luke, since they're so opposite to each other. He hates his father, hates fighting, and has a refined style of fighting, unlike Luke. Make him revealed to be a natural born fighting prodigy who doesn't even need to train, unlike Luke. As for why he comes back, Urien offers to bring his dead sister back.

Sound awesome, he had lot of potential. If Remy return, his design need change cause he looks like he is from kof. He kept his physical features like blue hair and other while look like sf characters. His move need to be bit rework. He need to keep his two special move, everything need to be rework. So he can be good and less guile clone

I can see that, but I'm also thinking that he has to have a connection to Mimi. Not only do they both come from France but, more importantly, their colour palettes are complementary of each other (even down to Mimi's gold medal and Remy's silver insignia). As for move reworks I think they have alot they could take from Savat, and we already have seen how they can make two "Guiles" work in SF5.

@@danishiqbal2963 I honestly feel like Remy’s design is perfect. And yes I realize I’m biased. I feel like his slim figure in comparison to the other male fighters of the series makes him stand out. It makes him feel more like a regular street goer, which makes sense since he’s not going for a normal fighter look, that’s just not him. It gives him a bit more individuality.

Remy is self-destructive at his core. He questions himself even in 3rd Strike, regularly muttering to himself "is this the right thing?" or similar. There's a part of him that knows what he's doing, but he can't stop. Combine his youth with his trauma and you have a man who has no means of self-expression beyond violence. What he desires, more than anything, is oblivion. His stun bar is incredibly short, and that indicates a lack of drive to continue fighting when it gets difficult for him. His health is low, but when you knock him out on his back, he's still conscious, laying a hand on his chest and looking upwards at the sky. He shares his low stun level with Akuma, who also wants to be killed in battle, but Remy lays bare the intrinsic emptiness of a life led in the pursuit of destruction for its own sake. Remy is keenly aware that he's completely full of shit. He keeps his sister's body around as a flimsy excuse to cling to, but once he lets her go, he does not move on with her. The great white light of truth he sees in his ending is a revelation he is seen walking away from. He's going to go right back to what he's doing: getting drunk, getting his ass kicked, clinging to life, all gone now but the desire to live to tell the tale. Maybe one day someone will recognize the cry for help that Remy himself isn't aware of... but I doubt it.

@Luigicat117
@Luigicat117 9 күн бұрын
I like your interpretation, though the optimist in me interprets his ending moreso as the light symbolizing a personal revelation that what he's doing makes no sense. He lets go of his past and moves on to a new future. What exactly he does is unknown, and my idea is that he realized that his hate was less for fighters in general, and moreso against violent people who fight for selfish reasons. But that's just my thoughts on him.

I think Remy's biggest advantage as a character is that there's enough wriggle room in his personality and backstory that a writer (or writers) can give him more depth. He hasn't been in any major installments, and so really it would be a genuinely nice surprise for Capcom to bring an underdeveloped character back unexpectedly. Yes, this does kind of pose an issue in of itself but again I think Remy is a flexible enough of a character that writers could pretty much flesh him out thanks to his simple backstory. Add the new re-contextualization with the Teppen card game, I think he could be really popular if he appeared SF6. No seriously, trust me there is absolutely a target audience demographic that Remy fits in nicely with. I mean Remy is an Edgy Emo Prettyboy with a tragic backstory, and there are people who ADORE that type of character (I am one of them!), and his androgynous looks only add to that appeal. I mean I can already see those cosplay numbers skyrocket through the roof already! Again that's more of a wishful thinking situation, but for now he's one of many names on a very long roster of a franchise but I can guarantee that someone working in Capcom will look at Remy and go 'he should be given a second chance and be put into a new game or something' (I don't know when that day will come but I'm holding out that potentially he could be given a second chance in the future).

I see Remy struggling to answer the question of why he likes to fight. What you brought up from Teppen, I see Remy asking himself that. Remy always struck me as a Garou character. Freeman says hi. :) His ultra skinny appearance and impressively animated hair made him look striking in motion back in the day. I liked him and he was popular with my female friends--he's definitely got some bishie appeal. I agree that his unique "anti-Capcom, anti-Street Fighter" vibes make him stand out. However, his Guile-clone special moves and vague story really hold him back. They should have just made him a reluctant enforcer for the Illuminati who wants to get justice for his poor frosty sister by going along with Gill.

Personally love Remy’s design, I think Capcom really nailed the whole Bikei/Edgelord thing even if he really draws comparisons to Iori (who I also love haha). I def think appearing in another game w/ more of an expanded move set or a rethink to some of his tools would really benefit Remy, think he can exist in the world of street fighter as an interesting foil to a lot of the characters anyway with how he hates violence, or even his recontextualized motivation of how he hates ‘warriors’. I like edgelords, yes, but you need a contrast. Between the emo attitude of Remy and the epic bluster coming from Dan, or between Remy's confusion and pain being juxtaposed with Dan's surprising depth as a swell and friendly guy (Sakura and Blanka can attest), there could be something to work on here.

Don't forget to mix up the strengths to throw off their timing. Don't forget that j.hp puts them in a juggle state and you can juggle with flash kick/cold blue kick after. Your best non super punishes start off of cr.hp, so that's a good move to go into off of wake up parry. Universal overhead combos into flash kick super on crouching. Good luck though man! Another random thing I'll let you know because I didn't understand it for years is that corner neutral throw into both hits of ex flash kick requires a really tight Kara cancel(with stand mp), so if you want to do that you're going to have to grind. So he's Charlie's son, right? It makes his situation a lot more tragic. He's seeking revenge on a man who didn't abandon him for selfish reasons - but actually died while trying to protect others. Because Charlie was on a secret mission, him being KIA was never reported back to his family. Remy's anger is misplaced and he excells at fighting because it's a natural gift he shares with his late-father.

After learning Remy for a team event, I'd argue that his issue is actuality that he would only fit in a game like 3S. While he is on the bottom half of the tier list, it's more due to his bad midscreen lows and stun issues (lowest stun in the game + inability to stun others due to it being tied to his terrible taunt) than the parrys. A lot of what makes Remy interesting comes in working around the high/low parry system and learning charge partitioning that opens up his neutral and combos, which can't be replicated as easily in the modern titles (esp. when Guile and Sagat will always get preference).

There's a theory going around that Abel was supposed to tie in the story for Remmy as the father that was involved in a accident and ultimately disappeared because of it. Since one of Abel's main story points is his connection to Bison and the Sonic Boom users, which there's very few of them that can actually perform that ability in the Street Fighter universe (Guile, Nash, Remmy) Although, that ultimately lead nowhere since Capcom completely abandoned Abel's character altogether after SF4.

I legitimately think being a charge character hurts him the most. Charge characters not only became significantly less popular in modern fighting games but it 1. Locks him into always being a guile clone and 2. Legitimately makes him bottom 3 in his only appearance because tas combos show he’s actually insanely good but the charge partitioning needed to make him top tier is humanly impossible for anyone ever. If he was untouched outside of being a motion character now remy would probably be remembered more fondly. No biases against him cause charge times or being a guile clone and we could look back on this good character unlike the likes of 12 who no one’s found of outside of for ironic reasons and more like makoto who was great.

I think it would make sense or be cool if they revealed Nash to be Remy’s father. Remy’s moveset is very similar to Guile’s and Nash’s, and unlike Necro, they don’t give an explanation for why he has these moves. Remy and Nash also have a lot in common, specifically SFV Nash. Both are obsessed with their goals of achieving justice or more accurately, revenge, and have an overall nihilistic view. My headcanon is that Nash had possibly married a frenchwoman and had Remy and his sister, and had taught Remy a bit of his fighting style. Then, Nash had to return to duty, and that’s when he died. In SFV after being revived, Nash was so set on destroying Shadaloo, that he never thought about his family, and that’s why he never mentions it. Ironically enough, since Nash permanently dies in SFV, Remy’s goals are a bit pointless and he doesn’t even know. Nash probably never decided to tell Guile or somebody else about his family, so unless Remy mentions that his father is Nash, no one will think to tell him that his father is already dead. I know that was long but Remy gets barely any story development, I just thought this would be neat.

Watching this after the SF6 release and playing through the story mode, I really think Remy could have a place in the story as it currently stands. After the events at the tournament in Nayshall, Ken left his family and is still in hiding despite the efforts of Guile and Luke to get him to reconnect with his wife and son. Remy’s own experiences with an absentee warrior father make him uniquely suited to knock some sense into Ken and kickstart his redemption.

It would makes sense for Charlie to be his dad, and him hating Charlie could be him in shock from Charlie’s death. Once Charlie is back as a weird zombie dude, remy seeks revenge on bison for making his father unrecognizable to him

He could also be like a mix of sagat and Charlie. He can cancel the recover frames of a projectile into an EX one like Charlie in sfv, but he can also change the height. For example, high sonic boom into EX low sonic boom, or EX low sonic boom into EX high sonic boom

I also just LOVE parts of remy’s design, with his big nose and thin build being pretty uncommon in street fighter. While I’d like to see an outfit change (and maybe a less edgy personality) I’d love to see him back is sf6.

One way I could see his return is that he gets over his hate for fighters and learns that what he really hates is senseless violence. He continues to fight for two reasons. To one day defeat his father. And to hunt down violent people, which would naturally put him at odds with all those terrorist organisations the series likes to use. Perhaps he even achieves some sort of inner peace as a Monk, as he was meant to be a priest. That'd fit with his pacifist-ish nature. But I swear to God, they better not cut his hair if they take that route! Another thing could be that his father is actually Nash and he never actually abandoned them, the reason he left is that he died in battle. Or perhaps he developed a grudge against him because he became a solider and thus had little time for his family. That'd explain the similar moves to guile. And as a soldier, I'd be surprised if Nail has never been to France. I only started playing 3rd Strike a few days ago, originally I wanted to play Hugo, but I found myself drawn to Remy's playstyle much more. Regardless of what route they take, I do hope that he comes back in a developed form.

I've always really liked Remy as a foil for the pro fighting ideology held by Ryu. Ryu's ideology has always held that combat is a form of expression and enlightenment. A form of wisdom. Remy, to me, represents the a counter point. What if combat is toxic? What if you're pursuing pain and hatred instead of wisdom? At the time I was pretty tired of Ryu's story and I loved the idea that Remy's ideology was a direct challenge to it. In that way I think he fit in rather well. He's an anti-Ryu. Akuma is Ryu's ideology corrupted, but Remy is Ryu's ideology inverted.

One of my favorite characters of all time - Albeit one who's from an entirely different genre of games - is Joshua Bright, from the Trails in the Sky JRPG trilogy. And he spends most of the plot being a hypocritical edgelord! But the story of the game knows that he's full of shit, and *challenges him on it.* The point of his arc is that even once you understand why he acted the way he did, he was still *wrong,* and his self-destructive behavior was just another way of running away from his trauma. Trails in the Sky is really fucking good, is what I'm saying. You should go play it.

I like your rewriting of his motivation more, but I still think his original one isn't as bad as people make it out to be. He's a hypocrite, yes, because that's the point. Maybe he doesn't know how to deal with his grief in a healthy way so he just goes around beating up the people who he deems responsible. Maybe he finds violence to be the only way to get his (flawed) "point" across. That's just my interpretation though, and none of this is alluded to in the game, so I understand why people don't like him. I think he has a lot of potential though.

The reason why I wasn't fan of Remy was essentially just his story and personality. While his design does seem like something that came from King of Fighters, rather than Street Fighter, that actually could have been something that would make him unique compare to the rest of the cast. But his emo personality and stupid motivation, really paints him as just glorofied egdelord. And I'm not suprised Copcom doesn't bother bringing back, since he's another Sonic Boom user, so why not use either Guile or Charlie in his place who more popular anyway. So, I wouldn't mind Remy coming back, since hey at least he's not Rufus, but he needs serious overhaul.
@9Maciej
@9Maciej 2 жыл бұрын
Also, personally, if they decided to bring him back, I kinda wish they explain how he learned Sonic Boom technuques. I know it's seems like not that big of a deal, since many characters in Street Fighter share similair techniques. But usually when it's something iconic, there's actual explonation, like being train by the same people or potentially being the same character (reffering to Q and G). Sure, Necro has moves for both Dhalsim ad Blanka, two characters he has nothing in commen story wise, but considering he was one of 12's prototypes, the character that mimics fighter, I think there's a potential explonation that Illuminati planted this technigues. Remy, yeah, he's Sonic Boom user but how he learned this?... maybe his father is actually Charlie 0_0.
@AnonymousC2218
@AnonymousC2218 2 жыл бұрын
@@9Maciej It is actually a big deal, because Charlie *ONLY* tought Guile the Sonic boom. And Charlie died pretty early in the timeline, He was young to so there is no way he could be Remy's father. So it doesn't make sense how Remy learned Sonic Boom out of the blue. I totally agree on what you said, I'm glad you mentioned this because people who are fans of remy don't realise this. Like you said Remy needs an Overhaul.

@@AnonymousC2218 With Charlie being Remy's father, I was just simple joking tbh. Since Charlie has this weird thing to be connected to some characters in a weird way. Still, yeah, Remy's use of Sonic Boom should be elaborated if he's ever going to comeback.
