Cool video I been to a few conventions during the first few years after the shows ending. Never got the chance to really meet anyone of the main actors like Carrol O'Connor his son Hugh, Alan Autry nor the other bigger name stars. I did get to meet a few of the others such as Dee Shaw, the one who played Bubba's GF, Dan Biggers (Such a sweetheart of a man). Carroll's stand in Grady he was a really cool guy. Glad I had the chance to visit many filming areas where they did the show and would like to get back down there again.

Gillespie & Harriet = my favorite TV couple. Their relationship was very realistic and sweet, you could have sworn they really were together. They had great chemistry.
@sgillman164 жыл бұрын
I preferred him and Joann. Such a shame just writing her out of the show. Same with Sweet and Althea. You can't just trick the audience into thinking they don't exist. We don't forget.
@mielissa100ify2 жыл бұрын
@@sgillman16 they explained why Joann and Althea left. It’s not like they disappeared with no explanation. The show pushed boundaries and the story between the chief and Harriet was very realistic for the times.

Nice! I enjoyed the show very much and still watch the reruns. I visited Covington and enjoyed seeing the buildings, streets, and houses where the show was shot. The welcome center just east of the red red brick "City Hall" has Wilson Sweet's actual uniform on display as well as some memorabilia. The antique shop across the street from the park (Church Street) has quite a bit of small and medium sized In The Heat of The Night items on display, including badges, hats, and a striped dress shirt that Alan Autry wore on the show during some off-duty scenes. The shop's owners are very friendly. I enjoyed seeing the town, just saddens me that Carroll, Howard, Hugh, and Lois passed away some years back. As a fan, I hope that a made-for-tv reunion movie would be considered that would show what's become of Bubba, Parker, Sweet, Luanne, Dee, Harriet, McComb, and Chief Forbes.

It started my junior year of high school, when i was usually working after school and into the evening. Continued all through my college years, when i either did not have a TV available, or did not have time to watch it. So i only ever saw a few episodes in first run. Years later i started watching it on TNT in the mornings after work (i was a cop). Great show, excellent characters, well written. But they had too many cops for that small town. Where i worked (pop 5000), i was often the only one on duty. At most we had 2, on overlapping shifts. In the show, they always seemed to have 4 or 5 on. So the town must have been bigger than depicted. Lol. Anyway, good times

You beat me to the punch. I had to play the video back to make sure I heard right. Unbelievable. 🙄🙄 It might have been due to his lifestyle and the circumstances surrounding his death. Those things make no difference whatsoever, as Howard was a marvelous artist whose talent spoke for itself. Even Carroll knew that. If he were alive today, he wouldn't discredit Howard in the slightest, nor would he allow others to. Just as he didn't during the run of the series.

"Heat" actually finished in 1995. There were 4 made for TV movies which made up the eighth season,1994-95 season.

I used to watch the show when I was growing up and then later in life the vampire diaries and one day I just happen to catch in the heat of the night on TV again and I noticed Damon’s clock was a lot like the clock from in the heat of the night. At this point, I had actually been to Covington a couple of times but I have not been back since I put two into together but I will when we can travel again

I would have loved to have known some of Chief Gillespie's back story. I get he served in WWII but my question was did he become Chief of police or did he work up to that position? Anyway, Carrol O'Connor was great in the role.

sgillman16 The show was part of the 1987-88 season because it was a midseason replaced of a short lived show called “JJ Starbuck.” The show first aired March of 1988. Taping probably started in late ‘87.

Where is the revival of this series? Gillespie, Tibbs, and Jamison back in action!!!

This was filmed in the same town as the "original" Dukes Of Hazard, the 1st 5 episodes. Then they moved it to that stupid ranch in California and changed the plot to where Rosco was stupid, etc, etc and it sucked from then on. But I loved in the Heat Of The Night. Watch the reruns all the time. Would love to do this tour in person.

Please tell me that Covington isn't going to give into the hysteria about taking down the statue in the square. If nothing else, when loud mouth people who don't understand the line "those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it" come to town demanding it's removal, tell them this. It was a show prop!
