Funny Cuca mentions, “bun in the oven”. ‘Cause some of the overseers of this movie thought that Nina’s personal conflict wasn’t “high enough stakes” for her to leave college. But Lin Manuel Miranda was adamant that her inner turmoil was interesting enough without delving into negative stereotypes.
@kevinmay91512 жыл бұрын
The problem is that they tried to create that new turmoil in the same plot line as the original musical
@decentgrocerybag40032 жыл бұрын
@@kevinmay9151 No but it wasn’t a part of the original musical. Because Lin, the writer, DIDNT want to give into negative stereotype since the characters were based around people he knew and grew up around, not just Latinos and their stereotypes. Some producers I believe it was wanted that to be the plot, but he refused. That’s what I’ve heard anyway. I was a fan of the musical before the movie, but I’m not that into it all.

@ajaxhopper98592 жыл бұрын
I think he was off base with that judgment. A pregnancy would've been a bit extreme, but I think the conflict of the original play -- where Nina is unable to keep up with her classes because of having to work two jobs -- feels a lot more relatable. The conflict she has in the movie feels forced and overdramatic imo.

Their relationship is different in the musical and the movie. In the stage musical they've never dated before. They were just friends and their relationship only becomes romantic after Nina comes back from college. In the movie, however, they are childhood sweethearts who broke up when Nina went to college and are now rekindling their relationship. So in the original stage musical Nina clearly doesn't know anything about the size of Benny's... taxi. However in the movie he's her ex so presumably she does know lol.

I like the fact that in the end when they find out that Nina dropped out, everything goes quiet, and they end up saying “I don’t know.” I feel like they rarely say “I don’t know” because they seem to be pretty hardcore and over the top gossipers who happen to “know” everything about everybody. It’s because Nina is a hard worker and even they have no idea why she dropped out because they know it’s not like her. I just thought it says a lot that they actually say “I don’t know” after finding out Nina dropped out because it shows how Nina is a really smart person and overall really hardworking and determined to get what she wants.

Lin Manuel Miranda es un genio y todas estas actrices y actores tienen la sazón latina, casi lo sentí como un salón de belleza en mi barrio jaksjaka

They did so good reflecting a realistic sense of a modern Latina salon I think, reminds me the latinas I grew up with as a kid

I remember when I was a kid and would git to the salon with my mom so she could get her hair done and boy oh boy is the tea hot hot like Jamaican tea is best tea no cap I had to keep myself from laughing so hard because my mom would literally tell he life story to random strangers who she will never meet again and they would do the same it's honestly the best experience someone could ever have

I’m so used to seeing Stephanie as Rosa Diaz that Carla’s friendliness is slightly unnerving lmao. She’s brilliant in this film tho
