Lights up on Washington Heights...The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies this vibrant and tight-knit community. At the intersection of it all is the likeable, magnetic bodega owner Usnavi (Anthony Ramos), who saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines and sings about a better life.

Chu directed the film from a screenplay by Quiara Alegría Hudes, based on the musical stage play, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, book by Quiara Alegría Hudes and concept by Miranda. Miranda, Hudes, Scott Sanders, Anthony Bregman and Mara Jacobs produced the film, with David Nicksay and Kevin McCormick serving as executive producers.
Behind the camera, Chu reunited with his “Crazy Rich Asians” production designer, Nelson Coates, and editor, Myron Kerstein. He also collaborated with director of photography Alice Brooks (TV’s “The Walking Dead”) and costume designer Mitchell Travers (“Eighth Grade”). Original songs by Miranda. Alex Lacamoire (“Fosse/Verdon”) and Bill Sherman (“Sesame Street”) served as executive music producers. The choreography is by Christopher Scott, who previously teamed with Chu on the award-winning “The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers.”
“In the Heights” was filmed in New York, primarily on location in the dynamic community of Washington Heights.

A lot of movies coming out in theaters are bombing regardless if they performed well or not. 90% of the movies that came out or are still coming out were meant to release last year but theaters everywhere were shutdown, hence the releases of movies both in theaters and streaming service(s) which plays a lot into movies bombing at the box office. @@sethdove8847 that's because both of these songs are act 1 finales, it's not uncommon for those to have this kind of everyone-talking-over-each-other kind of thing to sum up their goals from act 1 and hopes for act 2, and with these two being written by the same guy, they're bound to have more similarities EDIT: so i was misremembering stuff and 96000 was not actually the finale, it was mid-act 1, because in the heights had 2 acts (i was thinking it had three, it does story-wise, but _technically_ only has two, with the intermission happening 2/3 into the play). the sentiment still stands, but i was wrong on a technical level

The funny part is sonny vastly overestimates what 96 Gs can do for a neighborhood. A person? Sure that's a quite a but of change but a whole neighborhood? He was talking about providing everyone with internet, infrastructure etc. Just to give you an idea of how useless 96 thousand would be for a project like that: it costs a city an average of 1 million dollars to build a simple public bathroom. Another thing is municipality, if you want to change the neighborhood you have to work with the city and it's budget and let me tell you there's no one better at wasting money then a city planner.

I just saw this movie today and my fave part of this song is the singing over each other near 4:00. The way they overlap slowly works beautifully! It's one of my favorite things in musicals! This entire musical was phenomenal! Lin Manuel is a genius!
