In the Heights has hit the big screen, and we've got a new clip, featuring Daphne Rubin-Vega singing "Carnaval del Barrio." Jon M. Chu's film, adapted from the Tony-winning musical, is officially released on June 11 and is available in cinemas and on HBO Max.

Small hints that Daniela and Carla are a couple: 1. They sleep together on the same bed, and Carla gave her a kiss on the cheek after turning on the light. 2. Notice the small cute gestures they have on each other. Even in this scene. 3. Carla holding Daniela while she's singing. 3. Daniela smacked her ass, but Carla was never bothered by it. It's where the part Carla is going to try and sing.

I’m an African American and honestly didn’t think the film would move me much because it wasn’t my culture. But i found so much common ground from music to vernacular to personality types, etc. I couldn’t stop dancing and was emotional the entire film and couldn’t explain why. Pacencia y fe really did me in. I’ve never cried at a film like that in my life. All she gave up and experienced for a “better” life here in the states, while also longing for home. Geesh. I cannot fathom what that must be like. Absolutely beautiful and important film to represent the diversity and bittersweet experiences of Latinos and immigrants in this country.
