I love Dan Fogelberg’s music so much. He wrote such gorgeous, atmospheric songs. A poet as well as a talented musician. It’s a shame that many of his best songs were never played on the radio, so an awful lot of people really have no idea who he really was and what he was capable of.

Where do I even begin? Dan was inspirational to me both in college and beyond I tried to always express this to people, that there are sometimes songs where the lyrics are beautiful, and songs for the music is beautiful, but it is rare when you get finld both in the same place. I was so glad that at least I saw him for one show in Houston Texas. It was one of his more atypical songs, but it's still genius. My dad will never understand, because his mother was a concert pianist Ella and they thought I might have the same gift but I didn't. However, he gave me a gift of listening to music and understanding and appreciating orchestral and complex music. He told me that one of his favorite songs was from the meditation of Thais. And I listen to it after he explained what it meant. And I want to say that even though it's not a concert pianist I did have a passion for music. I play the flute and a lot of it I played by ear to Dan. My dad is in his 80s now. He's not the leader of the band, but he is theentiment. I was born in Chicago and raised in the area so Peoria is well known to me. Don't know why I'm sharing this other than the fact, that sometimes sharing a memory of passion with others of like mind, is sort of comforting. What more can I say is not any more radio Gaga in radio caca in the words of Queen and the amazing Freddie Mercury?

Never have I left my home since 8th grade without playing this song… in 1996, my CD player hadn’t worked for over a year…I was heading up Crescent Aveure towards dad’s law firm in Greenville- I prayed the Dan Fogelberg CD would play( a true miracle)and it DID play To The Morning- I was in shock & awe-

Every Autumn...this entire album. “....rushing headlong thru the crashing of the days, we run arm in arm without a backward glance....” No doubt about it. Only DF could have made it so plain, so profound, so poignant. Every time I sit at my piano I think of him, What it cost to be him, Why there could never be another quite like him. This song, and so many others he wrote will be with me until I too melt into a river of souls. One could do much worse for a traveling companion. Much peace, all.

There's a ring around the moon tonight and a chill in the air And a fire in the stars that hang so near, so near There's a sound in the wind that blows through the wild mountain holds Like the sighs of a thousand crying souls, crying souls There's a time when the traveler is fated to find That insight has turned his gaze behind, behind And the steps taken yesterday will beckon again And lead to his weary journey's end, his journey's end And in the passage from the cradle to the grave we are born, madly dancing Rushing headlong through the crashing of the days We run on and on without a backwards glance We run on and on without a backwards glance I cast my fate with the wife of Lot I turned my gaze around Knowing neither what I sought nor what was to be found Heeding weakness, feeding strength, oh life at length is frail I seek again the river's source through time's dark shadowed veil In the fast fading century, as we spin through the years I pray that our failing vision clears, our vision clears And in the passage from the cradle to the grave we are born, madly dancing Rushing headlong through the crashing of the days We run on and on without a backwards glance We run on and on without a backwards glance The places dash and the faces dart like fishes in a dream Hiding 'neath the murky banks of long forgotten streams The lines of life are never long when seen from end to end The future's never coming, and the past has never been There's a ring around the moon tonight, and a chill in the air And a fire in the stars that hang so near, so near

no probably 3rd plane soul - - see Meher Baba's cosmology
There's a ring around the moon tonight And a chill in the air And a fire in the stars that hang - so near; so near. There's a sound in the wind that blows Through the wild mountain holds Like the sighs of a thousand crying souls; Crying souls - There's a time when the traveller is fated to find That insight has turned his gaze behind - behind And the steps taken yesterday Will beckon again And lead to his weary journey's end - journey's end. And in the passage From the cradle to the grave We are born, madly dancing Rushing headlong through the crashing of the days We run on and on Without a backwards glance We run on and on Without a backwards glance. But I cast my fate with the wife of Lot I turned my gaze around Knowing neither what was sought nor what was to be found Heeding weakness, feeding strength Life at length is frail I seek again the river's source through time's dark shadowed veil. In the fast fading century as we spin through the years I pray that our failing vision clears - our vision clears. And in the passage From the cradle to the grave We are born, madly dancing Rushing headlong through the crashing of the days We run on and on Without a backwards glance We run on and on Without a backwards glance. The places dash and the faces dart Like fishes in a dream Hiding 'neath the murky banks of long forgotten streams The lines of life are never long when seen from end to end The future's never coming and the past has never been. There's a ring around the moon tonight And a chill in the air And a fire in the stars that hang - so near; so near.
