I’ve read Mr Russell’s book - it’s excellent - but listening to his fascinating account of these four women makes me want to go back and read the book again.

I wonder if Mary Lascelles is an ancestor of Tommy Lascelles, first secretary to Queen Elizabeth II?

Thank you for this podcast. Gareth's book ''young damned and fair'' is an excellent read. Gareth must be recommended for shining a light on one of history's most poorly handled reputations. This podcast here attracts attention to women around Catherine, again something rarely done by historians. Work like this break assumptions long held in the historiographical discourse. Please go on.

I agree this was interesting. I have been curious about the events around Catherine’s downfall since I read your book. Info about Risley( can’t spell it without looking) was chilling. What made him torture a woman with his own hands, especially a Protestant? Glad I never met him in a dark alley!

He thought she had information that would help him unseat Queen Katherine Parr but the victim, Anne Askew, wouldn’t testify even as he tortured her. A truly horrible episode from a morally corrupt political figure

Really enjoyed this talk ,and your presentation style is engaging and clear . Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge , I found it particularly interesting to hear about Jane Bulmer , who ‘ s portrayal in the Tudor s showed her in a very negative light, i would have like to hear more about Thomas Culpepper , is I doubt he could have been as brazen as he is portrayed he would surely have know how much danger he potentially was in . Thanks again .

Thank you, Gareth. I read your book a while ago and loved it, but I appreciate that here you focused more on these four women and specifically broke down each one's part in Catherine Howard's life and death. I always learn fascinating information from you!

I am kinda liking Agnes. Do a book on her. Catherine DeMedici in my opinion loved James 5. She looked after Mary Queen of Scotts. Catherine wanted to marry James.
